Lawmakers Want More Restrictions On Gun Dealers
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 19/Jun/2018 12:45
From Reason:
What’s a politician to do when it’s clear that people will vigorously resist attempts to restrict their lives? Well, you could empower government officials to arbitrarily punish anybody who might help them exercise their freedom. That’s the approach favored by three Democratic members of Congress, who appear to see the path to limiting private firearms ownership in harassing gun dealers and subjecting them to the whims of government officials.
“Assault Weapon” Ruse
From Breitbart:
Gun control activists long ago discovered that if they use the term “assault weapon†to describe a firearm, the vast majority of people reading or hearing such term, will picture in their mind a rifle capable of fully automatic fire; this despite the fact that private possession of fully automatic firearms has been essentially unlawful for more than eight decades.
California Turns Man Into Criminal With Registration, Confiscates Guns
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 14/Jun/2018 07:00
From NRA-ILA:
California residents attempting to comply with the Golden State’s ever-increasing swamp of firearms laws and regulations should take warning. According to a report out of Bakersfield, a good faith effort to obey the state’s labyrinthine firearm rules will not spare a gun owner in technical violation of the law from the wrath of the California Department of Justice.
The KGET report explained that during his attempt to comply with state law, Kirschenmann submitted photos of “an illegally modified†AR-15 to the California DOJ. This prompted an investigation by the DOJ that culminated in a raid of Kirschenmann’s home. Once inside the property, investigators allegedly discovered several unregistered “assault weapons,†a pair of suppressors, and what California terms a “multiburst trigger activator.â€
Dems Propose Registration
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 13/Jun/2018 07:00
From Townhall:
On Wednesday, congressional Democrats introduced bills to the House and the Senate that would establish a “system of licensing for purchasers of certain firearms†and “a record of sale system for those firearms†that would create a national registry for firearm sales and transfers in the United States and broadly prohibit the sale or transfer of guns to anyone without a federal license.
Anti Gun Journalist Joins NRA
From Daily Caller:
Years back, I was a staunch gun control advocate. Last week, I joined the NRA and the Gun Owners of America, and I’m looking to join more Second Amendment advocacy groups. How did this evolution take place?
The Second Amendment isn’t necessarily a call to arms — it’s an inconvenient reality for unelected officials who continually act with impunity and without government oversight.
Supreme Court Denies Another Gun Case
From Townhall:
The Supreme Court declined to hear a civil rights lawsuit brought about by the Calguns Foundation and the Second Amendment Foundation, reason reported. The two pro-gun groups decided to challenge Alameda County, California’s zoning laws that effectively ban gun stores, saying it violates county residents’ Second Amendment rights.
Obama Administration Looked To Gun Control Two Days After Sandy Hook
From Daily Wire:
According to emails obtained via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)Â request, first reported by The Baltimore Post, advisors to then-President Barack Obama immediately strategized how to exploit the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary school to push their gun control agenda. “Tap peoples [sic] emotions,” Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel advised then-Education Secretary Arne Duncan on December 16, 2012, just two days after the massacre that left 26 dead. The victims’ bodies were yet to be laid to rest.
The Second Amendment Is The Foundation Of The Bill Of Rights
Posted by Brian in Law, Opinion, Threat Watch on 26/May/2018 07:00
From The Federalist:
So, why did the founders feel the need to specify the right to bear arms in the constitution? After all, wouldn’t it be just as wrong for the government to take away any other possession? Why add a specific amendment about guns? The answer is that the founders understood the important role guns play in establishing and preserving a free society. They found this out firsthand.
A Short History of American Gun Bans
From Reason.com:
Josh Sugarmann, founder and executive director of the Violence Policy Center, laid out this strategy of misdirection and obfuscation in a 1988 report on “Assault Weapons and Accessories in America.” Sugarmann observed that “the weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun—can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons.”
He added that because “few people can envision a practical use for these guns,” the public should be more inclined to support a ban on “assault weapons” than a ban on handguns. While handguns are by far the most common kind of firearm used to commit crimes, they are also the most popular choice for self-defense. Proscribing “assault weapons” therefore sounds more reasonable.
California Continues Assault on Second Amendment
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 14/May/2018 17:09
From Reason.com:
Two new federal court decisions highlight a harsh new reality: California has effectively repealed the Second Amendment inside its borders.
In the first case, decided yesterday, a district judge ruled against the National Rifle Association’s state affiliate in a challenge to onerous new California rules targeting popular semi-automatic rifles. That 2016 law, signed by Gov. Jerry Brown (D), is called the Assault Weapons Control Act.
Heller Was The First Step In Repealing The Second Amendment
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 13/May/2018 16:04
From The Federalist:
The Second Amendment was repealed, in effect, by Heller’s majority opinion. The opinion went beyond questions raised in the case and laid out a rationale by which Congress, states, and courts could ban the private possession of many offensive and defensive arms today and all such arms of the future.
Student Questioned At School About Pictures From Gun Range
From Guns.com:
Fast forward to the next school day and Kashuv said he was pulled him out of class and questioned “intensely†by two school resource officers and a Broward County Deputy over the tweets and the visit.
What the hell is going on? They can’t seriously think the kid is a threat. This is just more evidence of gun haters trying to equate everything involving guns as something bad.
Anti-gun Groups Now Honest About Abolishing Second Amendment
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 10/Apr/2018 07:07
From Townhall.com:
Critics often accuse the National Rifle Association of paranoia for arguing that gun controllers want to eliminate the Second Amendment. Well, being paranoid doesn’t mean the NRA is wrong.
Look no further than former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, who is arguing this week that the Parkland, Florida, students and their allies shouldn’t settle for mere restrictions on guns. They should lobby Congress and the states to abolish the Second Amendment.
City Bans Semi-Auto Firearms
From The Daily Wire:
Rulemakers in the village of Deerfield, Illinois, have voted unanimously to ban semi-automatic rifles, along with pistols and shotguns “with certain features.” Deerfield also voted to ban magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
