First Bump Stock As A Machine Gun Prosecution Dropped
From Houston Chronicle:
A federal prosecutor withdrew the unique charge before the trial began for a Houston man accused of owning the device. However, the defense was prepared to call an ATF expert to testify that bump stocks, attachments that cause a rifle to fire more rapidly, do not render a semiautomatic gun a machine gun.
Experts had conflicting views on the matter, said defense attorney Tom Berg. But Rick Vasquez, a retired ATF agent and firearms expert, would have told the court the bump stock did not meet the statutory definition of a machine gun. The prosecution dismissed case, he said, because the government couldn’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt the bump stock was a machine gun.

Houston PD To Stop No-Knock Raids
This is a positive for everyone. No-knock raids put police in more danger as well as the suspects and bystanders, especially in states where gun ownership is common. More police departments should consider this kind of reform.
From NPR:
Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo says his department will stop serving “no knock” search warrants, weeks after a raid on a house left two married suspects dead and five officers injured. Acevedo also reiterated that the officer who led that raid may face criminal charges.
“The no-knock warrant’s going to go away, kind of like leaded gasoline in our city,” Acevedo said. He added that raids that stem from those warrants would only be used in very limited cases — and that they would not be used to nab people suspected of dealing small amounts of drugs.

This is the kind of welcome that should greet all such intruders in America, every time. It should greet all such intruders, all over the world, every time. If there were more greetings like this, there would be fewer intruders like this.

“Police are searching for two gunmen after an attempted carjacking in northwest Harris County.
A family of three were returning to their home on Roydencrest Dr. and Dawn Lily Dr. around 11:15 p.m. Saturday after purchasing two new cars.
The wife and child went into the house. The husband was still outside when two gunmen appeared demanding both cars.
Police say the men then shot the husband after he refused to hand over the keys. Both gunmen then ran off on foot.
The husband was then taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in serious but stable condition.”
Texas Ranger Recon Teams battling Drug Cartels in Texas

The governor hammered the White House this month for not sending enough National Guard troops and Border Patrol agents to Texas. When President Barack Obama signed $600 million in funding for more agents, unmanned drones and customs officers this month, Perry said, “It’s a good step in the right direction. Is it enough? I don’t think so.”
Perry announced the Ranger Recon program in the midst of his re-election primary campaign last September, two months after the program launched. The legislature had allocated about $230 million for border security during its last two sessions, he said.
“Landowners all along our border are finding their farms and ranches overrun by smuggling operations, often by armed individuals with no respect for property, the law or human life,” Perry said during a speech in Houston. “By introducing Ranger Recon teams that can stay on the move, we can stay one jump ahead of the cartels and beat them at their own game.”
