Texas Campus Carry Goes Into Effect

A Texas law that affirms the right of students and faculty to carry guns on public university campuses went into effect today. Much has been made of the significance of the date, given that the University of Texas tower shooting—one of the most infamous school massacres in history—occurred exactly 50 years ago.
Texas Reaches 1 Million Concealed Handgun Licenses

As of April 30, there were 1,017,618 active handgun license holders in Texas, according to the state agency that oversees the process, the Department of Public Safety. That means there are more people in Texas with permission to carry a gun than there are residents of the city of Fort Worth. Texas’ numbers far exceed those in several other states. Oklahoma has more than 251,000. South Carolina has 276,084. Washington state, 534,978. Tennessee, 555,865. But at least one state has more license holders: Florida, with 1,743,954.
However, Texas, with 5,672 permits issued per 100,000 adults 21 and over, is not the state with the most gun permits per capita. Florida (11,965 permits per 100,000 adults), Tennessee (11,851 per 100,000 adults) and Washington state (10,635 per 100,000 adults) are some of the leaders by that measure.
IED Found In Central Texas Near Fort Hood

An improvised explosive device (IED) was found and disabled Tuesday night under a bridge near Rosebud.
According to Falls County Constable Richard Aleman, 2 juvenile boys were hunting for rabbits late Tuesday evening when they saw suspicious items under a bridge near Farm to Market 1963. 1 of the boys contacted his father, who is former military, and his father contacted the fire department.
Adm. McRaven Doesn’t Want Students Carrying Guns

Veteran With CHL Saves Deputy’s Life

Perkins’ actions caused the suspect to leave Dorris and flee, before he was detained and taken into custody by another deputy and Dorris shortly after.

Two federal agents operating under the umbrella of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are claiming that eight Syrian illegal aliens attempted to enter Texas from Mexico in the Laredo Sector. The federal agents spoke with Breitbart Texas on the condition of anonymity, however, a local president of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) confirmed that Laredo Border Patrol agents have been officially contacting the organization with concerns over reports from other federal agents about Syrians illegally entering the country in the Laredo Sector. The reports have caused a stir among the sector’s Border Patrol agents.

Open Carry and College Carry Move Forward In Texas

If passed, Texas would be one of the last states to allow some form of open carry, but would be the largest by population to do so.
The session’s other gun-rights bill, allowing concealed handguns in college classrooms, lurched toward resolution with an agreement to let schools create “reasonable†gun-free zones. The last point to resolve is whether to force private universities to allow weapons.

Texas Cities Can’t Opt Out of Open Carry
From Dallas Morning News.com:
Under the bill, Texans with a concealed handgun license would be able to carry handguns openly in a shoulder or belt holster. The Senate passed a similar bill last month.
Rep. Rafael Anchia, D-Dallas, said “unfettered open carry†is not allowed in any of the country’s 12 biggest cities. But if the bill becomes law, it would break new ground by permitting open carry of handguns in four of them — Houston, San Antonio, Dallas and Austin, he said.

Breitbart Texas exclusively obtained leaked information on the Iraqi man who was apprehended while illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border into Texas on February 12, 2015. The Border Patrol agent responsible for interviewing the subject initially expressed concerns that the Iraqi was sent by Russia, largely due to the Iraqi man’s history as a military trainer, his speaking several languages, including Russian, and his having lived in Crimea, according to one of the leaked documents. Breitbart Texas was provided with two documents by a federal agent who works under the umbrella of Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The agent insisted on remaining anonymous.
Open Carry Passes Texas Senate

Under the measure by Sen. Craig Estes, R-Wichita Falls, Texas would join most other states in authorizing open carry of handguns — as long as the person has a state concealed handgun license. Currently, about 826,000 Texans have concealed handgun licenses, nearly 3 percent of the state’s population.
The bill, approved on a party-line 20-11 vote, would be effective on Jan. 1, 2016. Texans can already carry long guns, such as rifles, openly.
Texas Senator Cornyn Introduces Federal Reciprocity Bill

Think of it like this – if you have a driver’s license in your home state, you can use that anywhere in the country, however, you still have to follow any state driving laws in other states. Just because your state allows right turns on red doesn’t mean another state does too.

John Cornyn (R-TX) today introduced the bipartisan Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2015, which would allow individuals with concealed carry privileges in their home state to exercise those rights in any other state that also has concealed carry laws, while abiding by that state’s concealed carry laws. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV), John Thune (R-SD) and David Vitter (R-LA) are the lead cosponsors of the bill.
