Senators Hint At Fillibuster On Gun Legislation

From Politico:

“We (Sens. Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee) will oppose the motion to proceed to any legislation that will serve as a vehicle for any additional gun restrictions,” the three conservatives wrote in a copy of the signed letter obtained by POLITICO.

White House responds in predictable fashion:

“A vote ought to be held on all these elements,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “It is what the victims of gun violence deserve. I don’t think you could tell the families of those who have lost their children to gun violence — that bills like this might be filibustered.”

Another Hearing On Guns To Be Headed By Feinstein

After the hearing yesterday Senator Feinstein wants to have her own hearing.

“I’m concerned and registered my concern with Sen. [Patrick] Leahy yesterday, that the witnesses are skewed to the anti-gun, anti-assault weapons position,” Feinstein told POLITICO. “He agreed that I would be able to do my own hearing on the assault weapons legislation which I will proceed to do.”

Bill To Increase Protection for Embassies and Consulates

The Senate voted Wednesday to authorize a 1,000 person increase in the size of the Marine Corps to provide additional protections for U.S. embassies and consulates, a direct response to the Sept. 11 attack on the a diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya, which resulted in the death of a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.
