U.S. Congress Opposes U.N. Arms Treaty

From FoxNews.com:

Still, gun-rights supporters on Capitol Hill warn the treaty could be used as the basis for additional gun regulations inside the U.S. and have threatened not to ratify.

Last week, 130 members of Congress signed a letter to Obama and Kerry urging them to reject the measure for this and other reasons.

Rally in Temple Texas in Support of Gun Rights

From Guns.com:

A local news station reported that the “Come and Take It” rally, which was organized by Don’t Comply, was part of a response generated after Army Master Sgt. CJ Grisham was arrested in March for “rudely displaying” his AR-15. While it is legal to open carry long arms in Texas, apparently a concerned citizen called when she saw the man carrying the weapon while on a Boy Scout hike with his son in the rural community.

Pink Pistols: Gay Gun Rights Group

Their website is mostly a list of press releases but they do have information on starting a local chapter. The organization is mostly focused on self defense and CHLs because gays have been specifically targeted in the past. It is no different than the sixties when blacks were targeted for beatings. The minority used guns to defend itself then and they are doing so now.

House Passes Bill To Stop DHS Ammo Purchases

From The Hill:

“Given this large purchase, the American people and members of Congress rightfully had concerns and questions,” Meadows said. “This is a responsible amendment which ensures that Congress and the American people are aware of the necessity and the cost of ammunition prior to entering into new contracts for procurement.”

Louisiana Introduces Bill to Allow Lifetime Carry Permit

From Guns.com:

Prior to the passage of House Bill 265, Louisiana gun owners who wanted to carry a firearm for self-defense outside the home had to renew their concealed carry permit every five years and pay a fee of $125.  Now, though, assuming Gov. Bobby Jindal signs HB 265 into law, gun owners can purchase a lifetime CCW permit for $500 provided they agree to undergo firearm training and education classes every five years.

In Texas, the House defeated a measure on Sunday that would have given prosecuting attorneys and lawmakers permission to carry guns anywhere they wanted (but not CHL holders) to in the state. Just 38 lawmakers voted for it, while 103 voted against.

Brits Want Handgun Ban Reconsidered

From Guns&Ammo:

Rounding up a list of six ideas proposed by readers—including term limits on Parliament members, a flat tax and even a ban on spitting in public—is a repeal of the U.K.’s ban on private handgun possession, a result of the Firearms Act of 1997.

The reasoning sounds awfully familiar: “After all, why should only criminals be ‘allowed’ to possess guns and shoot unarmed, defenceless citizens and police officers?” wrote user Colliemum.

Man Arrested In D.C. For Saving Kid From Dogs

From GOPUSA:

Back in January, GOPUSA reported on Benjamin Srigley, a 39-year-old man who lives in Washington, DC. Srigley saw three pitbulls attack 11-year-old Jayeon Simon as the boy rode his bike. Srigley ran into his house and grabbed his handgun. He shot one of the three dogs. A nearby police officer heard the shots and once arriving on the scene, shot the other two.

Homeland Security Harassing Civil Pilots

The Atlantic reports on the two accounts of Gabriel Silverstein and Larry Gaines:

The whole episode lasted about 2 hours.  While the officers who questioned me were not overtly or personally threatening, the situation was intimidating and threatening.  I was never told details of the “profile”, so I don’t know how to prevent this from happening again, aside from talking to federal employees at all times while flying.  I am concerned that DEA and DHS now have files on me.  This distresses me GREATLY.  I am equally concerned that my plane’s tail number is now suspicious in the eyes of law enforcement.

Every day thousands of illegal immigrants flood over the border and Muslim terrorists plot bombings in Boston, but the DHS and Border Patrol have to harass civilian pilots. It is amazing how far the government will go, to not actually do their job.

Mother Jones: How To Build Your Own AK

Mother Jones is trying to scare people by publishing an article on the legal practice of building an un-serialized rifle for personal use.

And because we’re assembling the guns for our own “personal use,” whatever that may entail, we’re not required to stamp in serial numbers. These rifles are totally untraceable, and even under California’s stringent assault weapons ban, that’s perfectly within the law.

Colorado Gun Laws Violate Constitution and ADA says David Kopel

From Westword.com:

“The ADA requires state and local governments to make accommodations for disabled people, particularly in regard to major life activities,” he says. “And many disabled people have less ability when they’re attacked in their home to retreat to a point of safety or get behind cover from which they can change a magazine. They may have less mobility, or some might have only one arm, for example.

“So it’s more difficult for them to change magazines than do other people — and therefore, even if the magazine ban were constitutional in general, which we argue it is not, the people with relevant disabilities are entitled to reasonable accommodations to larger magazines.”
