Arizona beheading raises fears of drug violence

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The gruesome case of a man who was stabbed and beheaded in a suburban Phoenix apartment has police investigating whether the killing is potentially the most extreme example of Mexican drug cartel violence spilling over the border.

Martin Alejandro Cota-Monroy’s body was found Oct. 10 in a Chandler apartment — his severed head a couple feet away. One man suspected in the killing has been arrested, and a manhunt is under way for three others.

Mall management calls pro-Arizona shirts offensive

Immigration T-Shirt Spat at Maryland Mall

By P.J. ORVETTI

“Maryland is in the midst of a debate over whether to follow Arizona in adopting a strict new law on illegal immigration. One thing that shouldn’t be up for debate is whether it is OK to express an opinion about whether such a law would be a good idea.

But the management of Francis Scott Key Mall in Frederick isn’t so sure. According to the Frederick News-Post, mall owner Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust has asked the owner of the Antietam Gallery custom framing gallery to stop selling “Maryland Stands With Arizona” T-shirts out of his shop.

Immigration is a complex issue. Many come to the United States illegally out of desperation, risking a journey that is fatal for some, and taking the least desirable jobs at the lowest pay if they make it.

But nations have the right and the obligation to set limits on immigration — those of Mexico are much harsher than those of the U.S. — and those who have come to the U.S. through legal means are right to be angry by the millions who broke the law to get here.

What is not a complex issue is whether we have a right to talk about it. The mall managers and others who would take offense at Kehoe’s shirts may not like restricting entry into the U.S., but they have a very odd idea about what that same country is all about.

“It’s not about the T-shirt,” Kehoe told the News-Post. “It’s about people being victimized by political correctness and people feeling they are not able to speak the truth about things.”

“PHOENIX — A poll released Wednesday found that an overwhelming majority of Arizona voters support the types of provisions that are at the heart of a national debate involving the state’s immigration law.

The survey conducted on behalf of Arizona State University’s Morrison Institute for Public Policy found 81 percent of registered voters approved of requiring people to produce documents that show they’re in the country legally.

It found that 74 percent believe police should be allowed to detain anyone who’s unable to verify their legal immigration status, and 68 percent say police should be allowed to question anyone suspected of being in the country illegally.”

National Guard troops prepare to deploy along Arizona border

On Monday, the initial deployment of National Guard troops will begin arriving along the porous Arizona border separating the United States and northern Mexico. With border violence on the rise, area residents await troop arrival with measured optimism.

National Guard troops will begin arriving along the Arizona side of the border in small groups and without fanfare. It is anticipated that over five hundred troops will be deployed to the region by the end of September.

Their effectiveness however, is hard to predict as the troops, although armed, will only operate as observers, lacking authority to make arrests themselves.

Still, the extra boots on the ground are expected to create an additional deterrent for would be smugglers and others who may attempt to cross the border illegally. Some experts however, believe the drug cartels will simply move their operations elsewhere, such as southern Texas, which is already experiencing an increase in drug related violent crimes.

Tucson School District courses in Mexican-American studies “Raza Studies” promote anti-Western Civilization ideology?

“The superintendent of the Arizona Department of Public Education says his agency will consider a refusal by the school district in Tucson to videotape its “Raza studies” classes as evidence the district is “deliberately” concealing its agenda.

The state had asked Tucson, in view of a new state law that takes effect at the end of this year that bans promoting to students “the overthrow of the United States government” and other issues, to record its “Raza” classes this fall to document what is being taught.

No, said Tucson officials.”

H.B. 2281 bans classes that ‘promote the overthrow of the United States government’ or ‘promote resentment toward a race or class of people’ because schools should treat all pupils as individual Americans.

Texas Sen. John Cornyn backs review of ‘birthright citizenship’

By TODD J. GILLMAN / The Dallas Morning News

WASHINGTON – Texas Sen. John Cornyn is the latest senior Republican to call for a review of “birthright citizenship,” amid complaints that illegal immigrants have abused that post-Civil War constitutional provision.

On Sunday’s Face the Nation on CBS, Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona, the second-ranking Republican in the Senate, suggested congressional hearings. “The question is, if both parents are here illegally, should there be a reward for their illegal behavior?”

[Sen. Lindsay Graham, R-S.C.,] also asserted that “thousands of people are coming across the Arizona-Texas border for the express purpose of having a child in an American hospital so that child will become an American citizen, and they broke the law to get there.”

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio: report of a $1 million bounty on his head

“PHOENIX — A sheriff in Arizona known for his anti-immigration policies says his office is investigating a report of a $1 million bounty on his head.

A spokeswoman for Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says the report was relayed by the FBI and by a caller who told Fox affiliate KSAZ-TV in Phoenix that the threat was from a Mexican drug cartel. Phoenix is the seat of Maricopa County.

Lisa Allen says it wasn’t known whether the threat actually came from a drug cartel but authorities believe it was made using a disposable cell phone in Mexico.

Arpaio says it’s not unusual for him to receive death threats as sheriff and an outspoken advocate of immigration enforcement.”

Going around lawmakers to let illegal immigrants stay?

“WASHINGTON – The Obama administration is considering ways it could go around lawmakers to let illegal immigrants stay in the United States, according to an agency memo.

The internal draft written by officials at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services outlines ways the government could provide “relief” to illegal immigrants – including delaying deportation for some, perhaps indefinitely, or granting green cards to others – in the absence of legislation revamping the system.

It’s emerging as chances fade in this election year for a measure President Barack Obama favors to put the nation’s estimated 12 million illegal immigrants on a path to legal status, and as debate rages over an Arizona law targeting people suspected of being in the country illegally.”

Virginia Politician Wants Tougher Illegal Immigration Laws

“Corey Stewart, chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, is proposing model legislation for Virginia legislators to consider based on the new Arizona immigration law.

“It will require officers to check immigration status of any person who is detained for any reason whatsoever if there is reasonable suspicion that the person is an illegal immigrant, but it’s important to note that the person must be lawfully stopped.”

Alan Keyes: Unconstitutional attack on the state of Arizona

Alan Keyes

“Back in April, I wrote a column pointing to the constitutional provision (Article I, Section 10) that recognizes that when one of the United States is “actually invaded,” the state government may act, without federal authorization, to defend itself.

Due to the federal government’s ongoing dereliction, in open and abusive defiance of existing federal law, Arizona and several other states of the Union are the victims of an ongoing invasion, which endangers and damages the lives and livelihood of their inhabitants.

According to the Constitution’s language, when actually invaded, a state may go to war in defense of its citizens. Arizona has undertaken instead to respond to the invasion by directing its police forces to make a special effort to do what the federal government refuses to do – carry out existing federal law.

But even if there were no such federal laws, Arizona has the clear constitutional prerogative to respond to the actual invasion of its territory.”

Old News? Rancher sued by illegal aliens who trespassed on his land

"This is my land. I'm the victim here," Mr. Barnett said. "When someone's home and loved ones are in jeopardy and the government seemingly can't do anything about it, I feel justified in taking matters into my own hands. And I always watch my back."

“Roger Barnett owns a 22,000 acre ranch (35 square miles) along the border in southeastern Arizona. The ranch lies from 2 to 5 miles from the Mexican border. In the past 6 1/2 years, Roger Barnett, with only the help of his wife and brother, has apprehended nearly 12,000 illegal aliens on his ranch. Mr. Barnett has testified before Congress on the illegal immigration problem. No action has been taken.

Then he was sued by 16 illegal aliens he found and detained on his property.

Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI), February 18, 2009. The jury in Tucson rejected nearly all of the substantive claims brought by MALDEF against the Arizona rancher in 2004. Federal district judge John M. Roll also threw out related conspiracy complaints against Mr. Barnett’s wife Barbara and his brother Donald, and dismissed the claims brought by ten illegal aliens who did not testify in court.”

http://www.desertinvasion.us/invasion_pictures/invasion_barnett.html

Ranching is tough enough without having to deal with thousands of illegal alien trespassers – I bring up this bit of recent history as a reminder: this has been an on-going problem for years and even when the trespassers are not drug cartel killers, it is something that should have been stopped long ago.

Clearly, the Federal Government has not stepped up to the plate, they need to get out of the way of the States if they are not going to help.
