Army Selects Sig As New Handgun

Sig Sauer beat out Glock Inc., FN America and Beretta USA, the maker of the current M9 service pistol, to win the MHS contract that’s worth up to $580 million.
“The Army determined that this MHS (full size handgun, compact handgun, ammunition, and ancillary components) was the best value in terms of its performance capability, the terms and conditions of the vendor’s proposal, and price,†according to the release.

Firearm to Top Shooter at National Championships

Inland Manufacturing also conducted a drawing for all the competitors entered in the .30 caliber M1 CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) Carbine Match at Camp Perry.
Raymond Vaughn of Gwynn Oak, MD won the drawing and received a Model 1945 M1 Inland Manufacturing .30 caliber carbine ($1049.00 MSRP). Here is where karma really comes in play; Vaughn was competing at the Carbine Match with a genuine original WWII Inland manufactured .30 caliber carbine!

Making Your Own Firearm Has A Long History

While the technological ingenuity and legal maneuvering of makers such as Wilson and Imura may strike us as quintessentially modern, in fact the work of these garage gunsmiths hearkens back to the first experiments with gun-making in the late Middle Ages, an era before firearms became the province of corporations—and centuries before their subjection to any kind of government regulation or oversight.
The story begins with that most dastardly of medieval inventions, gunpowder, first developed in China probably during the Tang Dynasty before gradually making its way to Western Europe by the middle of the 13th century. Initially the use of gunpowder weapons on the medieval battlefield was limited to larger artillery pieces such as the pot-de-fer and theribauldequin. Soon, though, gunsmiths began experimenting with smaller, increasingly portable weapons that could be carried more easily across a battlefield.
