AZ State Rep Tells Woman To Stay Home If She’s Concerned About Being Attacked
From Ammoland:
Democrat Arizona state Senator Lupe Contreras—the assistant minority leader—is being criticized for reacting to the concerns of a female citizen speaking in support of legislation to expand her gun rights, by telling the woman that if she’s fearful of attack she should “Stay home behind closed doors.”
23 States And Over Half The Population Can Carry Without A Permit
From The Washington Post:
On Monday, Ohio became the 23rd state to enact a law eliminating permits as a requirement for concealed carry. The Buckeye State closely followed Alabama, where Gov. Kay Ivey signed a similar law on March 10.
The back-to-back wins for gun-rights advocates who want to see fewer restrictions on the Second Amendment signal how partisan divides and relentless activism at the state level are significantly reshaping the landscape around gun possession.
Washington Residents Buying Magazines Who Don’t Own Guns
From KIRO:
“People who don’t even buy guns are coming in and buying magazines just because they might buy a gun someday,” said Teasdale.
The Trace Questions If Firearms Insurance Will Work
From The Trace:
But as we pored over the particulars of San Jose’s ordinance and interviewed insurance experts, we found that the plan may end up not being as effective as proponents have advertised: It will only cover shootings that occur under a narrow and specific set of circumstances, providing little incentive for gun owners to adopt safer practices.
Gun Control Is Modern Jim Crow
From Firearms Policy Coalition:
The State of California continues to seek new lows in its long-running campaign to assault fundamental human rights and the peaceable people who exercise them. Today, Gavin Newsom, who loves to issue mandates he himself doesn’t bother to follow, was joined by other elitist authoritarians to announce a new barrage of attacks on the rights to keep and bear arms and free speech, among others.
California Uses Texas Abortion Tactic To Go After Guns
From The Office of the Governor:
Alongside California Attorney General Rob Bonta, legislators and local leaders, Governor Gavin Newsom today announced a new package of meaningful gun safety legislation to expand the state’s nation-leading protections against gun violence. The package includes a measure the Governor called for in December to help hold the gun industry accountable through private lawsuits, and a bill that would prohibit advertising of certain categories of weapons to children.
New York Times Admits “assault weapon” Was A Persuasion Tactic
From Bearing Arms:
In a stunning op-ed released Friday, the NY Times finally admitted that “assault weapons” are a made-up political term fabricated by anti-gun Democrats.
Op-ed writer Lois Beckett also admitted that once the term was manufactured and used to outlaw a class of weapons that dishonest anti-gun Democrats had used to con an entire nation, nothing happened.
Remington Insurer Pays $73 Million To Sandyhook Families
From Bearing Arms:
Suing gun makers over their marketing practices has indeed become more common since the Supreme Court declined to hear Remington’s appeal in 2019, with gun control activists and anti-gun politicians from New Jersey to Mexico using the Connecticut Supreme Court’s ruling as the main legal argument in seeking to blame gun manufacturers for the criminal misuse of their products.
The settlement with the Sandy Hook families certainly won’t do anything to discourage future lawsuits, though the Supreme Court will have another chance to weigh in on the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which was approved on a bipartisan basis by Congress in 2005 specifically to stop this type of litigation.
Diversity In Gun Owners Is Good News For Gun Rights
From The Economist:
More gun-owners, especially new ones, look like Ms Evans. Of the 7.5m Americans who bought firearms for the first time between January 2019 and April 2021—as gun-buying surged nationwide—half were female, a fifth black and a fifth Hispanic…
Let Your Neighbors Defend Themselves
From Ammoland:
We’re acting as if our bad dreams were more real than the bodies with chalk marks around them. Part of that problem is political. Politicians appeal to our fantasies and we’re suckers for that.
Judge Exposes Hypocrisy Of Second Amendment Jurisprudence
From Reason:
Frankly, this entire process is a waste of time. So, Judge VanDyke tried something new–write an “alternative” draft en banc opinion–or a fauxpinion, if you will–that reverses his panel opinion.
Since our court’s Second Amendment intermediate scrutiny standard can reach any result one desires, I figure there is no reason why I shouldn’t write an alternative draft opinion that will apply our test in a way more to the liking of the majority of our court. That way I can demonstrate just how easy it is to reach any desired conclusion under our current framework, and the majority of our court can get a jump-start on calling this case en banc. Sort of a win-win for everyone.Â
Forbes Freaks Out Over New Ghost Gunner, Shills For State Power
From Forbes:
Dubbed the Zero Percenter, because it can turn a completely untouched piece of aluminum into a firearm, the software and a few accompanying components are Wilson’s answer to what he considers government overreach. He seems to care little about the “open source†terrorism and crime it might unleash. So-called privately made firearms or ghost guns, the type Wilson has long championed, have confounded law enforcement officials for years. According to the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, from 2016 through 2020, some 23,906 suspected ghost guns were recovered from crime scenes, including 325 homicides or attempted homicides.
“There’s always going to be this mystical platonic line where a component becomes more like a gun than not a gun, and to regulate those intermediary steps of manufacture in any serious level completely disrupts modern American manufacturing, the American system,â€Â says Wilson, dressed in black and brandishing a 24-carat gold ring, embossed with the initials DD. “They are literally trying to control the world. But as the Zero Percenter demonstrates, blocks of metal are also guns.â€
