Louisiana Lawmakers Give Themselves More Rights Than Citizens
From KTBS:
State lawmakers would be exempt from many weapons restrictions imposed on the general public, under a bill nearing final legislative passage.
NFA Trust Regulation Faces Stiff Opposition
From The Guardian:
An executive action announced by the White House last year said that all members of legally certified trusts buying or receiving federally regulated weapons would need to identify themselves by submitting photographs, fingerprints and a signed approval from a local law-enforcement chief to US authorities.
In any case, the implementation of the new rule appears to have staved off for the time being by the vehement opposition lodged with the ATF. Williams, of the American Silencer Association, said he and colleagues had been told by senior ATF officials in a meeting in Nevada in January that “they received more comments than they anticipated, and because of that, the final ruling likely won’t be issued until next yearâ€.
OK Gov. Vetoes “Shall-Issue” NFA Bill
From NRA-ILA:
Authored in the House by state Representative Mike Turner (R-82) and in the Senate by state Senator Nathan Dahm (R-33), HB 2461 would require that a chief law enforcement officer (CLEO) sign an application for the transfer of any item regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA) within fifteen days if the applicant is not prohibited by law from receiving it.
UPDATE:
House Bill 2461 will go to the state Senate where a two-thirds vote would be required to complete the veto override. The bill initially passed the Senate by a vote of 46-0 on April 22.
Wednesday’s House vote came one day after Fallin vetoed 15 House bills, including this one, while criticizing the House for failing to act on important issues, such as Capitol repairs, while passing flawed bills and bills that are irrelevant to most Oklahomans.
Supreme Court Refuses To Hear New Jersey “Justifiable Need” Case
From The Christian Science Monitor:
The court took the action in a one-line order without further comment. It affirms lower court decisions upholding a New Jersey gun permit statute that critics say is too restrictive.
The challenged New Jersey statute prohibits state residents from obtaining a permit to carry a handgun in public unless they can demonstrate a “justifiable need†for such a weapon.
Reason.com’s take here.
CATO Institute’s response:
Drake is but the latest in a series of cases that challenge the most restrictive state laws regarding the right to armed self-defense. Although the Supreme Court in Heller declared that the Second Amendment protects an individual constitutional right, lower federal courts with jurisdiction over states like Maryland and New York have been “willfully confused†about the scope of that right, declining to protect it outside Heller’s particular facts (a complete ban on functional firearms in the home). It’s as if the Supreme Court announced that the First Amendment protects an individual right to blog about politics from your home computer, but then some lower courts allowed states to ban political blogging from your local Starbucks.

Arlington, TX To Pass Ordinance Restricting Open Carry
From NBC:
The first ordinance would put a blanket ban on all weapons and “simulated weapons†at government meetings.
The other would ban all weapons and any objects that resemble a weapon from public government meetings.
Bloomberg Starts Grass Roots Org. With Millions Of Dollars
From Bearing Arms:
Bloomberg is now hoping that the fourth time is a charm, as he’s launched a $50 million vanity project, Everytown for Gun Safety. The prevailing theory behind the effort seems to be an attempt to market gun prohibition as “gun safety,†while attempting to destroy the number one gun safety organization the world has ever known, the National Rifle Association.
California May Have A Chance With Candidates Like This
From local CBS station:
Michelle Ambrozic’s sign depicts a woman holding a rifle with the message: Less Government. Lower Taxes. Liberty.
Which Amendment Comes First?
The question is in regards to states disclosing information about gun licensees.
From The Volokh Conspiracy:
There is no First Amendment right to access government records. There’s a First Amendment right to speak about what you’ve found in a record that was released to you, but not a First Amendment right to access the record in the first place. (Courts have recognized one significant exception this principle — a First Amendment right of access to documents filed in criminal prosecutions or civil lawsuits. But that exception is limited, and not applicable to ordinary government records.)
LEOs Oppose Gun Control Measures
From FoxNews:
“Sheriffs have a constitutional duty to refuse to comply with such ordinances,” said Richard Mack, president of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association. “We’re seeing sheriffs in New York oppose the Safe Act and Gov. Cuomo. If we have sheriffs in New York doing this, how much more should we have sheriffs doing it in Vermont?”
U.S. Senator Proposes Gun Law With Unproven Technology
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 6/Mar/2014 08:05
From Boston.com:
The Gun Owners Action League of Massachusetts said the technology championed by Markey is often flawed and smart guns ‘‘only work correctly in the movies.’’
‘‘No technology should stand between a lawful gun owner using his/her firearm,’’ the group said in a written statement. ‘‘We also find it more than disingenuous that a senator with very little knowledge of firearms, who has worked to stifle the Second Amendment, would offer mandated technology that gun owners have not asked for, nor supported.’’
Tampa Bank Manager Fired For Concealed Carry
From TBO.com:
The 37-year-old Tampa resident is a single mother of three children and said she carries the gun for safety.
Ros has filed a lawsuit in circuit court against Wells Fargo Bank, which she said fired her last year from her job as manager at the bank’s Oldsmar branch. Her lawsuit says the firing violated her constitutional right to carry arms and asks for monetary damages and attorney fees.
Supreme Court Refuses To Hear Case On Gun Rights Of 18 to 20-year-olds
From USA Today:
The Supreme Court refused Monday to consider any new cases on gun rights, including the ability of 18- to 20-year-olds to buy guns.
More from Reuters:
The Supreme Court on Monday declined to wade into the politically volatile issue of gun control by leaving intact three court rulings rejecting challenges to federal and state laws.
NYC Gun Fee “Violates Equal Protection”
From The Gun Mag:
The lawsuit challenges New York City’s $340 fee for a three-year handgun license, which is the highest such fee imposed for a gun possession license anywhere in the United States. SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb noted that the fee anywhere else in the entire state of New York is $10, but the city is exempted from that law, The city’s higher fee, he said, “discourages city residents from exercising their civil rights while violating the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.â€
