Internet Crime Complaint Center’s (IC3) Scam Alerts

From IC3.gov:

This report, which is based upon information from law enforcement and complaints submitted to the IC3, details recent cyber crime trends, new twists to previously-existing cyber scams.

FAKE POLITICAL SURVEY

The IC3 has been notified of a scam involving telephone calls conducting a multiple-choice “political survey.” Following the survey, the recipients are told they won a free cruise to the Bahamas. After providing a website address for legitimacy, the caller requests the “winner’s” email address for notification purposes and credit card information to cover port fees. The website has very limited information, but does contain a few photos, testimonials, and “Caribbean Line” banner, in an attempt to convince visitors it is legitimate. Read the rest of this entry »

Google Approves an App that Steals All Your Data

From: MIT

Google’s automated “Bouncer” for apps, which should prevent harmful mobile software from appearing in the company’s app store, appears to have serious blind spots. The system repeatedly scanned but let pass an app that stealthily steals personal data such as photos and contacts, reported two researchers from computer security company Trustwave at the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas yesterday.

Nicolas Percoco and Sean Schulte are members of Trustwave’s “ethical hacking” research group, known as SpiderLabs, and they created the app to probe Google’s ability to vet the software uploaded to its app store. The pair said the results shows that Google needs to improve both its app-scanning system and its Android operating system.

Illinois Is Beating the Gun Ban Drum

Guns.com reports that Illinois governor Quinn wants to ban AR-15s and high cap mags. He is of course using the shooting in Colorado to push his ideology and will no doubt use the recent shooting in Wisconsin as well.

As reported by the Associated Press, the proposal would specifically ban the AK-47, AR-15 and TEC-9.  And in a way, it would be confiscatory.  In other words, if one couldn’t prove they had purchased the firearm prior to the ban, then he/she would face punitive consequences.

Situational Awareness

From SOFREP.com:

Good Situation Awareness is a learned SKILL, which means you must be trained and practice this skill continually. Our own ego must be dropped and we have to realize that these skills are competitive, which means we might be fighting for our lives with these skills. I know and have worked with Clinton (Emerson), he’s one of the Nation’s best.
