No Guns If You Have A Marijuana Card

Yesterday a federal appeals court ruled that banning gun sales to people who hold medical marijuana cards, whether or not they actually use marijuana, does not violate their Second Amendment rights. In reaching that conclusion, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit relied on antiquated, scientifically unsupportable assumptions about the violent tendencies of cannabis consumers.

ATF Reclassifies Key Ammo Component Without Warning

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has walked back an announcement it now viewed wetted nitrocellulose as a high explosive and will work with the firearms industry on clarification.

ATF’s sudden and unexpected change in policy on wetted nitrocellulose will likely have a significant impact on industry’s ability to deliver products to the military and commercial markets. Industry members have relied on the exemption for wetted nitrocellulose for many years and are aware of no accidental detonations or diversion of this product into illicit channels. Consequently, it is unclear why ATF believed it necessary to change its policy and, more importantly, why ATF announced the change in a newsletter article with no advance notice to industry.
California Bill To Make Undercover Videos Illegal
From Courthouse News Service:
 The bill would criminalize publishing undercover video footage of “health care providers” and subject third parties, including journalists, to penalties for reporting and distributing the illegally recorded footage.
Under AB 1671, a journalist receiving and posting footage from an anonymous source could be punished by the state as well as be opened up to potential civil lawsuits. Whistleblowers would not be exempt from the proposal either, regardless of how they obtained the illegal footage.
TX Campus Carry Allowed
From Dallas Morning News:
An effort by three University of Texas at Austin professors to block the implementation of the state’s divisive campus carry law has failed, after a federal judge on Monday denied their request for a preliminary injunction.
Texas Attorney General’s response to the ruling:
“I am pleased, but not surprised, that the court denied the request to block Texas’ campus carry law. There is no legal justification to deny licensed, law-abiding citizens on campus the same measure of personal protection they are entitled to elsewhere in Texas. The right to keep and bear arms is guaranteed for all Americans, including students, and I will always stand ready to protect that right.”
Ban On Ammo Upheld

A federal judge in Seattle has upheld a decision by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to ban ammunition originally designed for AK-74 assault rifles.
Anti-Gunners Changing Language, Stop Using Gun Control

For example, groups seeking tighter gun laws have been trying to get away from the “gun control†label since well before ARS started testing for a new messaging strategy last year. Better options, they say, are “gun violence prevention†and “preventing gun tragedies.â€

Homeland Security Stops Reporter, Asks To Search Phone

On Thursday, a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reporter claimed that the Department of Homeland Security demanded access to her mobile phones when she was crossing the border at the Los Angeles airport.
“I wanted to share a troubling experience I had with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in the hopes it may help you protect your private information,†Maria Abi-Habib, a WSJ journalist focused on ISIS and Al Qaeda wrote in a post on Facebook. (Abi-Habib confirmed to Motherboard that the Facebook account was hers, but declined to comment further.)

At the Four Seasons shop in Woburn, there was a line out the door. “We saw the email from Carl who said they wouldn’t be able to sell them after today,” Bruce Sterling said. “It seemed like it made a lot of sense to come and get an AR-15 today.”
Healey says the enforcement notice sent to gun sellers and manufacturers clarifies what constitutes a “copy” or “duplicate” weapon under the state’s assault weapons ban, including copies of the Colt AR-15 and the Kalashnikov AK-47.
Mass. Attorney General Steps Up Gun Control

In the wake of recent shootings across the nation, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey on Wednesday announced a crackdown on illegal sales of assault weapons. The Democrat says her office has sent notices and offered direction to the 350 gun dealers in the state about weapons she says gun manufacturers alter and market as Massachusetts compliant.
52,000 Guns Sold A Day During Obama Administration

Under Obama, background checks for guns reached 141.4 million through the end of May, amounting to sales of about 52,600 a day, according to the FBI. Last year, the FBI conducted more than 23 million background checks, which are generally used to figure sales of new and used weapons.

The database – called “Rap Back†– is run by the FBI and will alert Hawaiian law enforcement if a Hawaiian gun owner is arrested for a crime anywhere in the United States. Fox 59 quoted Ige saying, “This will allow county police departments in Hawaii to evaluate whether the firearm owner may continue to legally possess and own firearms.â€
This is how the slow boil to confiscation starts.
