Ted Nugent: Join Gun Owners of California
Protect your natural right to self defense and join Gun Owners of California:
Illinois State Atty Pro CCW
From Guns and Ammo:
“We will no longer use the power and authority of our office to criminalize and punish decent otherwise law-abiding citizens who chose to exercise their rights granted under them by the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves and their families,†Dozier said in a press release.
North Carolina Resident Anes Subasic Sentenced for Terrorism Violations
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 28/Aug/2012 02:48
From FBI:
NEW BERN, NC—United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today, United States District Judge Louise W. Flanagan sentenced Anes Subasic, 36, a naturalized U.S. citizen and resident of North Carolina, to 360 months in prison, followed by five years’ supervised release, and a $1,000 fine. “We must be ever vigilant in the pursuit of those who seek to destroy our way of life. This prosecution is evidence of our commitment to do so,†stated U.S. Attorney Thomas G. Walker.
Subasic was tried separately on two occasions for immigration and terrorism offenses. In September 2011, Subasic was found guilty of two counts of unlawful procurement of citizenship. On June 14, 2012, Subasic was found guilty of conspiring to provide material support to terrorists, Title 18, United States Code, Section 2339A; and conspiracy to murder, kidnap, maim, and injure persons abroad, Title 18, United States Code, Section 956(a). More Insanity From the “Gun Ban” State
Democrats (surprise!) in the California state legislature want to make a law to restrict the purchasing of ammo. They also want a law to force the reporting of any purchase over a thousand rounds, to the federal government. You can find the text of the law here. More info on the idiots who proposed the legislation here.
Would anyone let this happen if they were proposing such restrictions on speech? The only time a person can be charged on what they say is when it is blatantly obvious that the person acted recklessly and negligently. That is exactly what happened in Colorado only the perpetrator used weapons. The tool should not be the focus of the crime, but the manner in which the tool was used. If someone is murdered with a butcher knife, we don’t try to ban knives, we punish the person for murder. We don’t try to ban alcohol (we tried that once) when a drunk driver kills someone, again we punish them because they were negligent. The busy bodies in government should focus on people and personal responsibility, not the inanimate objects that the people use.
6th Circuit: No Warrant Needed to Track Cell Phones
From the EFF:
In what can only be described as a results-oriented opinion, the court found Skinner had no reasonable expectation of privacy in the cell phone location data because “if a tool used to transport contraband gives off a signal that can be tracked for location, certainly the police can track the signal.” Otherwise, “technology would help criminals but not the police.” In other words, because cell phones can be used to commit crimes, there can’t be any Fourth Amendment privacy rights in them. If this sounds like an over-simplistic description of the legal reasoning in an opinion we disagree with, the sad reality is that the court’s conclusion really did boil down to this shallow understanding of the law.
Gun Legislation In Progress
-
URGE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE TO VETO SB 1315 . . . NSSF is urging all California sportsmen, retailers and firearm owners to contact Gov. Brown’s office and urge him to veto SB 1315, which would repeal the current state preemption over local laws affecting the manufacture, sale, possession or use of Airsoft, BB or pellet guns in the County of Los Angeles and in any city located within the county. SB 1315 would allow each local government to adopt its own different local ordinances and set a dangerous precedent that could spread to the rest of the state and to all firearms as well. Please contact the governor and urge him to veto SB 1315.
- PRO-GUN REFORM LEGISLATION MOVING IN MICHIGAN . . . Last week, the Michigan Senate Judiciary Committee approved legislation to repeal Michigan’s “permit-to-purchase” (HB 5225) and the state’s registration requirement for handguns. HB 5225, along with companion bills HB 5498 and HB 5499, seeks to make substantive changes that will benefit federally licensed retailers and their customers. NSSF is urging you to please begin contacting your state senator and ask him or her to support HB 5225, 5498 and 5499.
California Tries to Ban More Guns
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 21/Aug/2012 08:24
From NRA-ILA:
Senate Bill 249, as amended, would make a small but profound change to the definition in state law of what constitutes a detachable magazine for a semi-automatic firearm. By doing so, as many as one million semi-automatic rifles (with a “bullet button†or other magazine locking device), which were legally sold in California over the last twelve years, would become illegal on July 1, 2013. If you’re one of the hundreds-of-thousands of Californians who purchased one of these modern sporting rifles (a centerfire semi-automatic rifle with a magazine locking device that prevents detachment of the magazine without a bullet or tool) since 2000, your firearm will have to be surrendered or may be confiscated.
House Sues Atty. General Over Fast and Furious
From ABCNews:
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, led by Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., has filed a civil contempt of Congress lawsuit against Attorney General Eric Holder in an effort to enforce a subpoena to obtain internal Justice Department memos about the botched ATF Fast and Furious gun-trafficking operation.
Uncle Ted Comments on Bill O’Reilly’s Misinformation
Bill O’Reilly made some egregious errors last week when discussing what type of weapons one can buy. He used AK-47, machine gun and “heavy weapon” (whatever that is) all interchangeably, confusing the issue.
Cato Institute: Defensive Gun Uses
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 14/Aug/2012 08:17
The Cato Institute has created an interactive Google map to chart the defensive use of guns in the United States. The map is not comprehensive, but does allow users to add any defensive use that is not already displayed.
Will You Be Able To Print a Gun In The Future?
According to Forbes columnist Mark Gibbs, you will be able to do just that and he doesn’t like it. The ability to print 3D objects of any material will eventually be cheap enough for everyone. It is the history of technology that it gets better and cheaper.
Illinois Is Beating the Gun Ban Drum
Guns.com reports that Illinois governor Quinn wants to ban AR-15s and high cap mags. He is of course using the shooting in Colorado to push his ideology and will no doubt use the recent shooting in Wisconsin as well.
As reported by the Associated Press, the proposal would specifically ban the AK-47, AR-15 and TEC-9. And in a way, it would be confiscatory. In other words, if one couldn’t prove they had purchased the firearm prior to the ban, then he/she would face punitive consequences.
