Study ties civilian deaths to attacks on US forces
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 2/Aug/2010 20:27

“WASHINGTON — Each time U.S. or NATO forces accidentally kill Afghan civilians, insurgents and their sympathizers typically retaliate with six additional assaults on foreign forces over the next six weeks, researchers using newly declassified NATO data conclude.
A new study published by the National Bureau of Economic Research supports the prevailing view of counterinsurgency strategists who believe civilian casualties help Taliban recruiting drives. The study found that attacks on foreign forces increase slightly even when the insurgents are to blame for the deaths of non-combatants.
“Our results show that if counterinsurgent forces in Afghanistan wish to minimize insurgent recruitment, they must minimize harm to civilians despite the greater risk this entails,” says the study, to be released Tuesday through the Washington-based New America Foundation.”

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio: report of a $1 million bounty on his head
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 2/Aug/2010 20:06
“PHOENIX — A sheriff in Arizona known for his anti-immigration policies says his office is investigating a report of a $1 million bounty on his head.
A spokeswoman for Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says the report was relayed by the FBI and by a caller who told Fox affiliate KSAZ-TV in Phoenix that the threat was from a Mexican drug cartel. Phoenix is the seat of Maricopa County.
Lisa Allen says it wasn’t known whether the threat actually came from a drug cartel but authorities believe it was made using a disposable cell phone in Mexico.
Arpaio says it’s not unusual for him to receive death threats as sheriff and an outspoken advocate of immigration enforcement.”

15 more execution-style murder victims were found in Northern Mexico
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 1/Aug/2010 14:10
“Tamaulipas was the scene of yet another harvest of death as the bodies of 15 more execution-style murder victims were found abandoned by their killers on the highway between Matamoros and San Fernando Thursday afternoon, July 29.
The 13 men and 2 women were found with their hands bound with plastic cable ties, faces bandaged and with visible marks of torture and beatings. All had been executed with a shot to the head.”
Sheik Ibrahim Mudeiris: “The day will come when we will rule America.”
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Opinion, Threat Watch on 1/Aug/2010 14:05
Palestinian Sheik Ibrahim Mudeiris, said in a sermon on Palestinian television in May 2005:
“We [Muslims] have ruled the world before, and by Allah, the day will come when we will rule the entire world again.
The day will come when we will rule America.
The day will come when we will rule Britain and the entire world – except for the Jews. The Jews will not enjoy a life of tranquility under our rule, because they are treacherous by nature, as they have been throughout history.
The day will come when everything will be relieved of the Jews.”
In other words, Islam is more than just a religion. It is a totalitarian, genocidal political movement.
John Brennan, Obama’s homeland security adviser, has stated that the U.S. is no longer in a “war on terrorism” or fighting against “jihadists.”
The fact is that the West is at war with global jihad.
This is a war that began against the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, in which about 3,000 Americans were murdered by the Islamic attack on the twin World Trade Center towers in Manhattan and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
What is global jihad?
It is the determined effort of the Islamic world to impose the religion of Islam and Shariah law on the entire world.
In Europe, this effort is being waged by massive immigration of Muslims into Spain, France, England, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Scandinavia.
Radical Muslims have:
– bombed trains in Spain,
– bombed subways and buses in London,
– assassinated an anti-Islamic cinematographer in Holland,
– threatened to kill a cartoonist in Denmark for depicting Muhammad in a less than a complimentary manner.– al-Qaida has announced that it has created an army in Yemen of 15,000 fighters
They have also murdered Christians and burned churches in Nigeria, Pakistan and Indonesia.
In her book, “Shackled Warrior,” Caroline Glick writes (p. 208):
“Throughout the world, Islamic ideologues are aggressively spreading their message of global domination. In mosques, on the Internet, on television, in schools, hospitals and prisons, Islamic preachers can be found propagating the cause of Islamic domination.”
Iranian Shock Troops in Venezuela?
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 30/Jul/2010 18:30
“A Pentagon report to Congress about Iran’s current and future military strategy noted the activities of an elite unit, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps – Qod Force.
The Qod Force’s role is to “clandestinely exert military, political and economic power to advance Iranian national interests abroad.†Those activities range from gathering intelligence to supplying training, arms and financial support to surrogate groups and terrorist organizations, according to the 12-page unclassified version of the report. Those groups include Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Palestine.
The Qods Force is well-established in the Middle East and North Africa “and recent years have witnessed an increased presence in Latin America, particularly Venezuela,†the Pentagon report said, noting that if the U.S. gets more involved in local conflicts in those regions, contact with the Qods Force “directly, or through extremist groups it supports, will be more frequent and consequential.â€
‘Indignant’ Muslims reject U.S. request to counter violent extremism
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 30/Jul/2010 17:17
“A series of e-mails from the Department of Homeland Security, the federal agency that has warned of a threat from “right-wing extremists” like those worried about national sovereignty, reveals the agency has held a series of meetings with Muslims who apparently rejected the government’s request to help counter violent extremism.”
Escalating Violence From the Animal Liberation Front

On July 22, special agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the FBI arrested Walter Bond in Denver and charged him with conducting the April 30 arson that destroyed a Glendale, Colo., business, the Sheepskin Factory, which sold a variety of sheepskin products. According to an affidavit completed by a special agent assigned to the Denver ATF field office, Bond used the nom de guerre, “ALF Lone Wolf†and boasted to a confidential informant that he not only torched the Sheepskin Factory but also was responsible for a June 5 fire at a leather factory in Salt Lake City and a July 3 fire at a restaurant in Sandy, Utah.
The Bond case serves as a reminder that activists with organizations such as the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) are still very active — indeed, there have been several firebombing attacks by such activists in the United States this year, not only at businesses but also at the homes of animal researchers. And there have been scores of animal rights-related attacks in other countries, with Mexico being among the most active. The Bond case also provides an opportunity to examine the manner in which the animal liberation movement conducts its leaderless resistance campaign, to draw lessons from the case and to assess the trajectory of the animal rights movement. In Iraq, Jieddo has succeeded in drastically reducing the carnage caused by IEDs.

There was a time he [Schoenfeld] would get to know soldiers only to have them sign off from a video chat and never return.
“It was very sad,†he says. “The output of these devices was devastating.†These days, things are different.
He shows me an 8-inch-thick block of military-grade steel — “rolled homogeneous armor,†he calls it — with a 2-inch-wide hole blasted all the way through by shrapnel from a test IED charge.
New armored vehicles can take damage like this, Schoenfeld says, and the occupants can tell him about it on video afterward.
“I get people standing in front of holes like these, smiling,†he tells me. “They say, ‘Yeah: I got back out and shot the guy that did this.’â€
Time Magazine cover: Aisha
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 29/Jul/2010 19:37
“Our cover image this week is powerful, shocking and disturbing. It is a portrait of Aisha, a shy 18-year-old Afghan woman who was sentenced by a Taliban commander to have her nose and ears cut off for fleeing her abusive in-laws.
Aisha posed for the picture and says she wants the world to see the effect a Taliban resurgence would have on the women of Afghanistan, many of whom have flourished in the past few years.
Her picture is accompanied by a powerful story by our own Aryn Baker on how Afghan women have embraced the freedoms that have come from the defeat of the Taliban — and how they fear a Taliban revival.”

85% of Drug Traffickers arrested in Mexico are Set Free
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 29/Jul/2010 17:47
“Only 1.5 of every 10 individuals charged with drug trafficking and murder in Mexico ends with a sentence, while the remaining of the 85% go free for lack of evidence even if the PAN government brags about their arrests in the media.
It is a ritual that takes place almost every day: people accused of drug trafficking and murder are paraded before the media to show that Mexico is winning its war against drugs.
But once the camera lights go out, three-quarters of them are released.”

Poll: Nearly 6 in 10 Pakistanis view US as enemy
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 29/Jul/2010 17:41
by ROBERT BURNS
Despite billions in aid from Washington and a shared threat from extremists, Pakistanis have an overwhelmingly negative view of the United States, according to results of a Pew Research Center poll released Thursday.
Most Pakistanis want improved relations with the United States, according to the poll. But most view the U.S. with suspicion, support for American involvement in the fight against extremists has declined, and nearly two-thirds want U.S. troops out of neighboring Afghanistan.
Nearly six in 10 Pakistanis polled described the U.S. as an enemy and only one in 10 called it a partner.

Penn Jillette, Not Having the Courage to Confront Islam is Bullsh*t
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Opinion, Threat Watch on 28/Jul/2010 21:21
by David Swindle
It’s always a sad day when someone you admire tremendously, who has entertained and challenged you for years lets you down and reveals themselves to really stand up only for themselves instead of the ideas of freedom they claim to support.
Reason Magazine highlights some deeply discouraging remarks from Penn Jillette, the libertarian co-host of the extraordinarily great Showtime show “Penn and Teller’s Bullsh*tâ€:
Reason Magazine: Are there any groups you won’t go after?
Penn: We haven’t tackled Scientology because Showtime doesn’t want us to. Maybe they have deals with individual Scientologists—I’m not sure. And we haven’t tackled Islam because we have families.
Reason Magazine: Meaning, you won’t attack Islam because you’re afraid it’ll attack back …
Penn: Right, and I think the worst thing you can say about a group in a free society is that you’re afraid to talk about it—I can’t think of anything more horrific.
Y’know there are a whole lot of prominent people — who do have families — who have had the courage to tell the truth about Islam. Robert Spencer, Pamela Geller, Mark Steyn, Trey Parker, Matt Stone, Geert Wilders… It’s actually a fairly long list with people who would be much more prominent targets than Penn and Teller.
When Jillette says things like he has here it accomplishes one thing: it empowers the enemy. It tells them to keep making threats and to keep killing people because ultimately it works because we in the West are too complacent, comfortable, and selfish to care.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those who would be willing to put their lives on the line to hide and protect Jews in Nazi Germany, and those who looked the other way and lived comfortably as the Holocaust happened. The situation is pretty much the same in our age.”

Chemical-weapon attack by the Taliban: revealed in U.S. military logs released by WikiLeaks
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 26/Jul/2010 19:46
“Most of the reports catalog counterinsurgency’s basics — weapons caches found, gun battles fought, village elders chatted up.
But buried in the tens of thousands of U.S. military logs dropped Sunday night by WikiLeaks are incidents that are anything but routine: a suspected chemical-weapon attack by the Taliban; rumors of Al Qaeda poisoning the U.S. military food supply; a tip about Osama Bin Laden’s status.”
Prisoners in a northern Mexico jail allowed out at night to carry out murder-for-hire jobs
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 26/Jul/2010 19:38
“MEXICO CITY — Prisoners in a northern Mexico jail were allowed out at night to carry out murder-for-hire jobs using jail guards’ weapons and vehicles, officials said Sunday, revealing a level of corruption that is stunning even in a country where prison breakouts are common as guards look the other way.
The prisoners carried out three massacres this year in the city of Torreón in which 35 people were killed, Ricardo Nájera, the spokesman for the attorney general’s office, said at a news conference. Among them, the authorities said, was last week’s attack on birthday revelers at a party hall. The gang shot randomly into the crowd, they said, killing 17 people.
Ballistics studies confirmed that four guns used in the shooting were the same as those assigned to jail guards, Mr. Nájera said.”
