Texas Reps Want Surplus War Equipment On Border
From Military Times:
The Houston Chronicle reports Texas Reps. Ted Poe and Henry Cuellar have been joined by 17 border sheriffs from Texas, New Mexico and Arizona in a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta requesting that he move up delivery of surplus equipment.
Bill Allows CCW Permits to Under-21s in the Military
Florida, the vanguard of pro gun legislation, has proposed to allow concealed carry permits to anyone in the military regardless of age, as long as they are qualified.
From Guns.com:
The bill, officially known as House Bill 463, was authored by Florida Carry, a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots organization dedicated to advancing the fundamental civil right of all Floridians to keep and bear arms for self-defense.
“Those who defend our country overseas should be able to defend themselves and their families at home. There have been too many incidences of violence against our troops who have just returned from overseas deployments and found themselves defenseless at home” the group said in a press release.

Dear Friends and Fellow Firearm Enthusiasts
I have created a very simple website to announce On Target Training Firearm classes, which will help us share what we are doing and expedite registration.
Here is a preview for 2012:
 March 31st – Introduction to Handguns
A course which will include the firearms and ammunition. This is for people who have never fired before, or for people who want to try a variety of handguns and calibers, and get more comfortable. It is ideal for spouses and youth who want to learn in a comfortable no-stress environment.
April 21 – Defensive Pistol Skills
This one-day seminar will cover the following skills sets vital for self-defense, concealed carry, and action pistol shooting events (IDPA or USPSA): rapid drawing from a holster and target acquisition, quick placement of multiple hits on a target, rapid placement of hits on multiple targets, use of cover – moving to cover and firing from cover, use of movement – while drawing, moving to cover, and while firing, and techniques for smooth and rapid reloads. We will end the course with shooting mini-scenarios applicable to self-defense situations or an action pistol match, in which all of the skills practiced during the day will be utilized.
June 2 – Practical Carbine
This course is designed for rifle students interested in mastering accuracy and speed on both paper and reactive steel targerts using a variety of positions and movement.
Drills range from focusing on traditional rifle positions and accuracy to firing on the move, firing on steel from distance behind cover, adverse firing positions, decision making and reactive drills.
Students at all skill levels benefit from taking this course to improve their accuracy and speed. The day will end with challenging field courses designed to use the skills practiced during the day, and will make use of the rolling wooded terrain on this property.
Afghanistan and the Long War

The war in Afghanistan has been under way for more than 10 years. It has not been the only war fought during this time; for seven of those years another, larger war was waged in Iraq, and smaller conflicts were under way in a number of other countries as well. But the Afghanistan War is still the longest large-scale, multi-divisional war fought in American history. An American soldier’s killing of 16 Afghan civilians, including nine children, on March 11 represents only a moment in this long war, but it is an important moment.
In the course of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, military strategists in the United States developed the concept of the long war. The theory was presented in many ways, but its core argument was this: The defeat of Taliban forces and the Iraqi resistance would take a long time, but success would not end the war because Islamist terrorism and its supporters would be a constantly shifting threat, both in the places and in the ways they would operate. Shootout In Illinois
The shootout took place in 2008, but the details are just coming out. PoliceMag.com has the full story:
Maddox point-fired at Gramins as he charged toward the patrol unit. Four bullets hit the front of Gramins’ squad car.
Gramins let loose with a barrage of rounds hoping that what he might lose in accuracy would be compensated for by its suppressive nature. The only thing separating Gramins and his assailant was a windshield that was fast disintegrating from ingoing and outgoing rounds.

New Small Versatile Missile From Raytheon
The missile is known as the Griffin and has applications for all branches of the military.
From Defense Industry Daily:
The Griffin’s estimated range is similar to the larger AGM-114 Hellfire: about 3.5 miles if surface-launched without a booster motor, rising to 12.5 miles or more if fired from an aerial platform at altitude. That’s fine for aerial platforms, as Griffin A/B offers them the ability to carry more Griffins than Hellfires, and achieve similar reach and precision, with less collateral damage.
