ATF Is Really After Customer Data Not Gun Parts
Posted by Brian in Opinion, Threat Watch on 23/May/2014 12:44
From Townhall.com:
Ares Armor CEO Dimitrios Karras, who served his country honorably as a Marine, was more than willing to meet the ATF halfway regarding the EP Armory parts in his possession.
He was willing to provide the ATF with thousands of the EP Armory parts for safekeeping until the company had its day in court. He even segregated them in a locked room and offered the ATF the only set of keys.
Where Karras drew the line was in providing the customer data that proved to be the ATF’s real focus. He filed an injunction to stop the ATF from seizing his customer data.
$10,000 Reward Offered By ATF and NSSF For Felon
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 14/May/2014 12:50
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) New Orleans Field Division is offering a reward, along with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, for a total of $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of convicted felon John Ross Harold for stealing a firearm from a licensed dealer, receiving stolen firearms, and felon in possession of firearms.
On Feb. 27, 2014, at approximately 1:40 a.m., police attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle in the city of D’Iberville, Miss. The vehicle attempted to elude police and after a short pursuit, the driver, identified as Kevin Parfait, was taken into custody. The passenger, identified as John Ross Harold, is still at large. A search warrant was executed on the vehicle and 25 firearms were recovered. These firearms were subsequently identified as being stolen from Cooks Gun Shop, 4515 Popps Ferry Road, D’Iberville, Miss., on the same night. In addition, on April 1, 2014, Harold forced entry into a residence located in Terrebonne Parish, La., and shot a resident. The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant on Harold for the crimes of attempted murder and home invasion. Harold is believed to be armed and dangerous in the Houma, La., area.
“Mr. Harold and his co-conspirator orchestrated a robbery that ended with an innocent citizen being shot,†said Special Agent in Charge Phillip Durham. “Their greed-motivated reckless behavior led to another person being injured. ATF will continue to do all we can to curb violent crime and take those dedicated to violence off our streets.â€
Anyone with information about this crime should contact ATF at 1-800-ATF-GUNS (800-283-4867) or the U.S. Marshals Service at 202-307-9100. All calls will be kept confidential.

This reward is part of a larger national cooperative initiative between the NSSF and ATF in which NSSF matches ATF rewards in cases involving the theft of firearms from federally licensed firearms retailers. ATF works closely with members of the firearms industry to curb the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms.
ATF is the federal agency with jurisdiction for investigating firearms crimes. More information on ATF can be found at www.atf.gov.
Harold is a 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, black male with black hair and brown eyes. He also has multiple tattoos on his chest and arms. Anyone with information regarding the crimes or Harold’s whereabouts can contact the ATF at 1-800-283-4867, or the U.S. Marshals Service at 202-307-9100.
Malcolm Gladwell on the Tragedy of The Branch Davidians
From The New Yorker:
Outside the Mount Carmel complex, the F.B.I. assembled what has been called probably the largest military force ever gathered against a civilian suspect in American history: ten Bradley tanks, two Abrams tanks, four combat-engineering vehicles, six hundred and sixty-eight agents in addition to six U.S. Customs officers, fifteen U.S. Army personnel, thirteen members of the Texas National Guard, thirty-one Texas Rangers, a hundred and thirty-one officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety, seventeen from the McLennan County sheriff’s office, and eighteen Waco police, for a total of eight hundred and ninety-nine people. Their task, as they saw it, was to peel away the pretense—Koresh’s posturing, his lies, his grandiosity—and compel him to take specific steps toward a resolution.
Here is Gladwell discussing his piece and what got him interested in what happened in Waco:
The “80% Lower” Situation
From The Bang Switch:
Here’s a not so well kept secret, there’s no such thing as an 80% lower in the eyes of the BATF — it’s either a gun or it isn’t. The phrase “80% lower†was coined by a cleaver marketer of incomplete AR lowers years ago and it stuck.
The actual regulation in the Gun Control Act that all this hubbub is based on states, “(A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; (B) the frame or receiver of any such weapon.â€

Cop Attempts to Sell Class 3 Weapon, Not Charged
From WSBRadio.com:
When Doraville received the tip they contacted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
“Because the weapon had not been delivered,” Callaway says, “it didn’t meet their threshold for a crime.”
Mann was dismissed from the Doraville police department. He can appeal his firing.
Would a civilian like you or me not be charged if we tried to sell a Class 3 weapon without the proper paperwork? It is my opinion that there should be no such thing as a Class 3 weapon in the first place.
ATF Used Mentally Disabled Teens to Run Sting Then Arrested Them
From Reason.com:
If you thought the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) couldn’t stoop any lower, you’d be wrong. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the agency responsible for setting off the events that led to Waco and were at the center of the Fast and Furious gun-walking scandal are using mentally disabled teenagers to advertise businessess that are actually fronts for ATF sting operations.
ATF Wants Tougher Rules For NFA Items With No Proof of Their Use in Crimes
From NRA-ILA:
To justify the proposed rule, the administration and BATFE have stated that over 39,000 applications for transfers of NFA firearms to trusts or corporations were received in 2012 alone. Nevertheless, the agency cited not a single case in which an NFA firearm transferred to a legal entity was used in the commission of a crime.
ATF Prosecution of Legal Gun Purchases Goes to Supreme Court
From Rep. Steve Stockman:
Federal law does not prohibit one eligible person from buying a gun for another eligible person. It is perfectly legal to buy a gun for an eligible gunowner. The law only prohibits transfers to ineligible people. Neither Abramski nor his uncle was ineligible.
ATF Arbitrarily Going After Legal Gun Parts
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 13/Aug/2013 08:19
From World Net Daily:
…I cringe every time I hear someone who supposedly supports gun rights – from politicians to the head of the NRA – calling for the feds to “enforce the laws already on the books.†The fact is, the gun laws that are already on the books are a labyrinth of confusion and booby-traps full of open-ended mandates, ambiguous definitions and unbridled bureaucratic discretion.
ATF Seeking Comments on Revising Form 5320.1 (SBR/SBS)
The ATF is trying to make the process easier for applicants and the ATF itself. From Guns.com:
What are the proposed changes? They’re simple, really. They want to accept electronic payments to pay the transfer tax by credit or debit card. They also want to reduce redundancy by combing information currently captured on another form. And they want to change the size of the form itself to 8.5 x 14.
Lost ATF Gun Kills Police Chief
From LA Times:
A high-powered rifle lost in the ATF’s Fast and Furious controversy was used to kill a Mexican police chief in the state of Jalisco earlier this year, according to internal Department of Justice records, suggesting that weapons from the failed gun-tracking operation have now made it into the hands of violent drug cartels deep inside Mexico.
ATF Raids FPSRussia With No Probable Cause
From Guns.com:
When Guns.com talked to the ATF about this incident the ATF spokesman Richard Coes said he didn’t know why ATF agents suspected Myers of wrongdoing. However, he told local media that “the claim is that he was using explosives and getting paid for it via YouTube.â€
Tannerite is used in many of his videos, which is legal to own. Expect the ATF to “make a ruling” that tannerite is now illegal.
All White House communications on government gun-smuggling scandal at ATF have been subpoenaed.

“In just a few short weeks, Barack Obama’s hand-picked, anti-gun Attorney General, Eric Holder, will be forced to testify before Congress about the ATF’s scandal, “Fast & Furious.”
But this time, there is more evidence.
A number of Eric Holder’s deputies may testify what you and I knew all along — that Eric Holder was well aware of the scandal. Others are also coming forward.
“This was an effort by Barack Obama, Eric Holder and Janet Napolitano to make an aggressive assault against our 2nd Amendment rights. I’m calling for Eric Holder’s resignation and prosecution,” an Arizona Sheriff recently stated.
Ten Arizona Sheriffs have joined the battle to hold Eric Holder accountable for his actions, which have endangered innocent lives all along the border.”
