New Zealand Gun Database Leaked Private Information
From Reason:
Law-abiding gun owners who complied with New Zealand’s mandatory gun buyback program and surrendered their assault weapons to the government discovered Monday that their privacy had been compromised by poor website security.
Donations Surge To NRA After Confiscation Talk
From The Washington Free Beacon:
The NRA’s PAC raked in $1.3 million in total contributions throughout September, an increase of nearly $400,000 from its previous month, with an overwhelming majority of its cash haul coming from small donors. Of the $1.3 million, $981,277 was sent from individuals contributing less than $200. September was the fourth month in 2019 that the PAC has collected at least $1 million; it currently has $10 million on hand.
The spike in funding came as Democrats running for president have increasingly moved toward support for new gun bans, and even confiscation. Beto O’Rourke, slipping in the polls, promised, “hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47,” during September’s primary debate. Senators Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) and Cory Booker (D., N.J.) have both indicated support for O’Rourke’s plan.
Dems Who Criticize Beto On Confiscation Want Equally Stupid Ban
From Reason:
Beto O’Rourke is taking flak from other Democratic presidential contenders for supporting mass confiscation of military-style rifles, a proposal several of them view as an impractical campaign gimmick. Although they are right about that, all the Democratic candidates are guilty of magical thinking on this issue, because they support an “assault weapon” ban that cannot reasonably be expected to have a measurable impact on gun violence.
Red Flag Laws Hurting Innocents
From Reason:
One thing is certain: Taking away people’s guns based on predictions of what they might do with them raises thorny due process concerns. That’s especially true with laws like Maryland’s, which authorize broad categories of people to seek ERPOs based on scant evidence and effectively put the burden on gun owners to demonstrate that they don’t pose a threat to themselves or others. While the benefits of these laws are mostly speculative, they inevitably deprive law-abiding people of the constitutional right to armed self-defense, even when it is quite unlikely that they would use guns to hurt themselves or anyone else.
Australia Gun Control Not Going As Planned
From Bearing Arms:
Gun ownership has increased over the past 20 years, with roughly 3.2 million firearms in circulation, according to gunpolicy.org, and recent reports have shown that gun owners now have more guns — about 3.9 guns each compared with 2.1 guns in 1997.
Come And Take It
From The Daily Wire:
No. I will not oblige. My staggeringly awesome so-called “assault weapon,” replete as it is with multiple sights, numerous “high-capacity” magazines, and hundreds and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, is the ultimate guardian of my life and liberty. It is, in Kozinski’s “doomsday” scenario, the final fail-safe mechanism that, if all else were to fail in America and tyranny or anarchy were to reign, still gives me a chance to defend home, hearth, family, and self. It is the weapon that the Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, much like oppressed people living under totalitarian regimes the whole world over, wished they could have had. Such weapons are — here, there, and everywhere — the ultimate guardians of a citizenry’s freedom.
Confiscation By Another Name
From The Federalist:
The media should stop using absurdly lazy phrases like “mandatory gun buybacks.†Unless the politician they’re talking about is in the business of selling firearms, it’s impossible for him to “buy back†anything. No government official—not Joe Biden, not Beto O’Rourke, not any of the candidates who now support “buyback†programs—has ever sold firearms.
Don’t Fall For Background Check Ruse
From The Federalist:
By way of background, firearm dealers are required to run a background check on anyone to whom they sell guns. “Universal†checks would impose the same requirement on everyone else.
Whenever there is a multiple-victim murder with a gun, Democrats don’t wait for law enforcement agencies to determine how the perpetrator acquired the gun. They immediately demand “universal†checks, to trick the public into thinking that the perpetrator could not pass a background check, therefore bought the gun from someone who is not a dealer, therefore the crime would have been prevented if the seller had been required to conduct a check.
Beto: Confiscation and Registration
The Democrats have been gas-lighting gun owners for years claiming confiscation and registration were “crazy” fears.
From Townhall:
“This is a country that has produced the leadership that will ensure that we not only have universal background checks and red flag laws and end the sale of those weapons of war, but that we go the necessary steps further as politically difficult as they may be,” O’Rourke explained. “A gun registry in this country, licensing for every American who owns a firearm and every single one of those AR15s and AK47s will be bought back so they’re not on our streets, not in our homes, do not take the lives of our fellow Americans.”
Why A “Buyback” Won’t Work
From Reason:
So how has that worked out? Well, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s conservative estimate, New Yorkers owned about 1 million “assault weapons” at the time the ban was passed. So the 44,000 that were actually registered are about 4 percent of the total. This noncompliance with the law is widespread and mostly open, but the police aren’t doing much about it.
I could give several more examples of such reporting. But the upshot is that gun owners are overwhelmingly ignoring the law—and the police are overwhelmingly looking the other way.
Compromise Always Means More Restrictions
From The Federalist:
When people ask me what I would be willing to compromise on, I give them a simple answer: I would trade tougher background checks in exchange for nationwide concealed-carry reciprocity. If we are going to create a system where every gun purchaser is fully vetted through the FBI’s background check system, then we should give those vetted and trusted gun owners the right to carry their guns nationwide.
Gun control advocates usually gasp when I make this recommendation, as if the thought of actually having to agree to pro-gun reforms has never crossed their minds. The answer I get is almost always a hard “no,†and that tells me everything I need to know about the gun control movement’s intentions. Every gun control bill that passes is just one step toward an ultimate goal.
Harris Says Confiscate Guns Of Bigots
From Reason:
Sen. Kamala Harris (D–Calif.), who is seeking the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, says that if elected she will push legislation that would authorize federal courts to issue gun confiscation orders against people who express opinions that may indicate an intent to commit a hate crime. These “domestic terrorism prevention orders” would “temporarily restrict a person’s access to guns if they exhibit clear evidence of dangerousness,” including “violent racist threats or anti-immigrant manifestos.”
They Want The 2nd Amendment Gone
From Bearing Arms:
That leads to only one logical conclusion: Repeal the Second Amendment and start over from presumption that you do not need a gun unless you are going off to war or going off to train for war.
The “Buyback” Fallacy
From Bearing Arms:
There’s nothing voluntary about turning over your firearm if you’ve been told you’ll go to prison if you’re caught with your gun. It’s asinine to pretend otherwise, which makes me wonder if the editorial board of the Christian Science Monitor are truly unaware of the compulsory nature of the New Zealand confiscation scheme, or if they’re attempting to deceive their readers about the New Zealand program in order to pitch “buyback†programs here.
Another Death From “Red Flag” Law
From Gateway Pundit:
Last November a 61-year-old Maryland man was shot dead while police were trying to serve him a “red flag†order.
Â
The local officials said it was a sign the law is needed.
There’s more…
The police arrived at his house at 5 AM.
The old man had a gun in his hand and was shot dead!
