Trial For USS Cole Bomber Delayed

The Obama administration has shelved the planned prosecution of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, the alleged coordinator of the Oct. 2000 suicide attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, according to a court filing.
We can’t prosecute an obvious act of war against a United States warship, it’s no wonder we can’t rebuild the World Trade Center.

“NEW DELHI: In yet another indication of the involvement of Pakistani establishment in the 26/11 Mumbai attack, LeT operativeDavid Headley has corroborated the statement of lone captured terrorist Ajmal Amir Kasab that the terrorists got training from Pakistan Navy.
During his interrogation, Kasab confessed that the ten terrorists, including himself, who attacked Mumbai received training of swimming and underwater diving from the Pakistan Navy’s frogmen.
Headley has also told his interrogators that the Pakistani intelligence agency had paid Rs 25 lakh to LeT to purchase a boat which terrorists used to travel from Karachi to the Pakistani maritime boundary, where they hijacked an Indian fishing boat ‘Kuber’ to reach Mumbai.”

WASHINGTON — At first, the news from Yemen on May 25 sounded like a modest victory in the campaign against terrorists: an airstrike had hit a group suspected of being operatives for Al Qaeda in the remote desert of Marib Province, birthplace of the legendary queen of Sheba.
But the strike, it turned out, had also killed the province’s deputy governor, a respected local leader who Yemeni officials said had been trying to talk Qaeda members into giving up their fight. Yemen’s president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, accepted responsibility for the death and paid blood money to the offended tribes.
For its part, the Pentagon is becoming more like the C.I.A. Across the Middle East and elsewhere, Special Operations troops under secret “Execute Orders†have conducted spying missions that were once the preserve of civilian intelligence agencies. With code names like Eager Pawn and Indigo Spade, such programs typically operate with even less transparency and Congressional oversight than traditional covert actions by the C.I.A.

Toronto-born Omar Khadr, who was 15 when he was captured in 2002, is accused of throwing a grenade that killed a Delta Force medic after a firefight in Afghanistan.
“When asked what he was most proud of in his life, he said conducting the operations against the Americans.”

“Powerful drug cartels are increasingly using gruesome videos of executions and interrogations to intimidate their rivals, police and an already terrified public in Mexico’s vicious drug war.
In one video, a man with a black eye is tethered to a chair in his underwear and appears to be strangled to death with a tourniquet by his captors. There is a “Z” scrawled across his chest, for Zetas, a spinoff of the Gulf Cartel.
In another video, a man is slowly beheaded with a knife.”
Seems somehow familiar…where have we seen this tactic before…?
New Report: terror threat should be defined in order to fight it.

Family of Pakistani Christian murdered by Muslim mob: “the community did not want ‘scum’ in it.”

Pakistan (MNN) ― A Pakistani Christian mourns the loss of his family after a Muslim mob murdered his wife and four children, according to Compass Direct News.
Jamshed Masih, a police officer, moved his family to Mustafa Colony after he was transferred from Gujrat to Jhelum, Punjab Province.
When the predominantly-Muslim community learned of the family’s faith, Maulana Mahfooz Khan, a Muslim religious leader, approached Masih and told him and his family to leave, saying the community did not want “scum” in it. He said no non-Muslims had ever been able to live there and the residents feared the family would be a bad influence on their children.
A short time later, a Muslim mob, led by Khan, arrived at the house, accusing him of blasphemy against Muhammad.
Before police or Masih arrived, the family was murdered.
Now, local authorities refuse to press charges against Khan and his mob because they fear what he will do to them.”

Another expression of tolerance from the Religion of Peace.
Note a key phrase in this article: “predominantly-Muslim community”. That is significant. There are neighborhoods in the UK that even the police hesitate to enter. Yes, you guessed it: the “predominantly-Lutheran community”. No. For some strange reason we don’t have a lot of trouble with the Lutherans and the Baptists and the Catholics – at least not here in the US.
Most Americans have no idea of how disruptive to a culture a “predominantly-Muslim community” can be. They know in the Netherlands. They know in the UK. They know in Dearborn, Michigan. But until there is a sort of critical mass, until the numbers get high enough, you don’t see stories of angry mobs killing women and children, burning churches.
Maybe we’ll be fine. Maybe our “predominantly-Muslim communities” here in the United States will be as friendly and open and kind and generous and reasonable as the “predominantly-Buddhist communities”. They don’t have a very good track record, though, which makes me nervous.

Canadian Muslim immigrant charged with plotting genocide of Canadian Jews

After police visited Mr Hossain at his suburban home in Mississauga, Ontario in 2007, he wrote: "You can't charge me for possessing a thought."
“A Muslim immigrant who called for “the slaughter of Jews” in online postings has become the first person to be charged with promoting genocide in Canada, police said on Friday.
Salman Hossain, a 25-year-old from Bangladesh who apparently left Canada in May, was charged with five counts of promoting hatred and advocating or promoting genocide over postings on his website and blog, as well as on a third-party website, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said.
He “wilfully promoted hatred and advocated genocide of the Jewish community,” said a statement.
Mr Hossain, who immigrated to Canada as a child, openly called for “violent regime change in Western nations in order to remove the presence of Jews” and “the slaughter of Jews,” according to reports.
He also advocated terrorist attacks in Canada, cheered the killing of Canadian troops in Afghanistan, and urged fellow Muslims to overthrow the “Jewish-run Canadian government”.”

He immigrated as a child to a peaceful, tolerant (maybe too tolerant?) country – Canada – and yet, when he grew up to be a young man he actively and openly advocated killing Jews and committing terrorist attacks in Canada. Why? Where did he learn this? Where was his loyalty to Canada, the country that took him and his family in?

“Britain’s longest terrorist investigation ended on Thursday when three Muslims were convicted of conspiring to become suicide bombers in a plot to blow up trans-Atlantic airliners.
Ibrahim Savant, Arafat Waheed Khan, and Waheed Zaman made vitriolic suicide videos in which they blamed the West for their actions.
The three men were the “front-line troops” in “a deadly and co-ordinated campaign against the general public”, said Peter Wright QC, prosecuting, during the case.”

Al Shabaab Threats Against the United States?

On the afternoon of Sunday, May 30, an Aeromexico flight from Paris to Mexico City was forced to land in Montreal after authorities discovered that a man who was on the U.S. no-fly list was aboard. The aircraft was denied permission to enter U.S. airspace, and the aircraft was diverted to Trudeau International Airport in Montreal. The man, a Somali named Abdirahman Ali Gaall, was removed from the plane and arrested by Canadian authorities on an outstanding U.S. warrant. After a search of all the remaining passengers and their baggage, the flight was allowed to continue to its original destination.
Gaall reportedly has U.S. resident-alien status and is apparently married to an American or Canadian woman. Media reports also suggest that he is connected with the Somali jihadist group al Shabaab. Gaall was reportedly deported from Canada to the United States on June 1, and we are unsure of the precise charges brought against him by the U.S. government, but more information should be forthcoming once he has his detention hearing. From the facts at hand, however, it appears likely that he has been charged for his connection with al Shabaab, perhaps with a crime such as material support to a designated terrorist organization.
Last week, the Department of Homeland Security issued a lookout to authorities in Texas, warning that another Somali purportedly linked to al Shabaab was believed to be in Mexico and was allegedly planning to attempt to cross the border into the United States. This lookout appears to be linked to a U.S. indictment in March charging another Somali man with running a large-scale smuggling ring bringing Somalis into the United States through Latin America.
Taken together, these incidents highlight the increased attention the U.S. government has given to al Shabaab and the concern that the Somali militant group could be planning to conduct attacks in the United States. Although many details pertaining to the Gaall case remain unknown at this time, these incidents involving Somalis, Mexico and possible militant connections — and the obvious U.S. concern — provide an opportunity to discuss the dynamics of Somali immigration as it relates to the U.S. border with Mexico, as well as the possibility that al Shabaab has decided to target the United States. From Failed Bombings to Armed Jihadist Assaults

One of the things we like to do in our Global Security and Intelligence Report from time to time is examine the convergence of a number of separate and unrelated developments and then analyze that convergence and craft a forecast. In recent months we have seen such a convergence occur.
The most recent development is the interview with the American-born Yemeni cleric Anwar al-Awlaki that was released to jihadist Internet chat rooms May 23 by al-Malahim Media, the public relations arm of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). In the interview, al-Awlaki encouraged strikes against American civilians. He also has been tied to Maj. Nidal Hasan, who was charged in the November 2009 Fort Hood shooting, and Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the perpetrator of the failed Christmas Day 2009 airline bombing. And al-Awlaki reportedly helped inspire Faisal Shahzad, who was arrested in connection with the attempted Times Square attack in May.
The second link in our chain is the failed Christmas Day and Times Square bombings themselves. They are the latest in a long string of failed or foiled bombing attacks directed against the United States that date back to before the 9/11 attacks and include the thwarted 1997 suicide bomb plot against a subway in New York, the thwarted December 1999 Millennium Bomb plot and numerous post-9/11 attacks such as Richard Reid’s December 2001 shoe-bomb attempt, the August 2004 plot to bomb the New York subway system and the May 2009 plot to bomb two Jewish targets in the Bronx and shoot down a military aircraft. Indeed, jihadists have not conducted a successful bombing attack inside the United States since the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Getting a trained bombmaker into the United States has proved to be increasingly difficult for jihadist groups, and training a novice to make bombs has also been problematic as seen in the Shahzad and Najibullah Zazi cases.
The final link we’d like to consider are the calls in the past few months for jihadists to conduct simple attacks with readily available items. This call was first made by AQAP leader Nasir al-Wahayshi in October 2009 and then echoed by al Qaeda prime spokesman Adam Gadahn in March of 2010. In the Times Square case, Shahzad did use readily available items, but he lacked the ability to effectively fashion them into a viable explosive device.
When we look at all these links together, there is a very high probability that jihadists linked to, or inspired by, AQAP and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) — and perhaps even al Shabaab — will attempt to conduct simple attacks with firearms in the near future. Read the rest of this entry »

Spy Planes Didn’t Help Catch Bomber?
Danger Room reports that military signal intelligence planes were not used to catch Faisal Shahzad. Those planes have been used before over United States airspace though.
