Court Upholds 15 Round Mag Restriction

In 2013, Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper signed a controversial bill into law capping the limit on detachable magazines in the state at 15 rounds in the wake of a mass shooting inside a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. Challenged in the courts, the law has since been upheld by judges in both federal and state courts, the latter of which was affirmed by an appeals court last week.
Chicago Man Protects Neighbor’s Home

A 71-year-old man shot an intruder who was trying to break into his neighbor’s Pill Hill neighborhood home Thursday morning.
Police said a 29-year-old man was trying to break into a house near 87th and Euclid around 10:45 a.m.
Open Carry Demonstration In Miami

Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales today sent a letter warning the mayor and commission that an unknown number of gun-rights activists planned to fish from the pier with their guns on display. They also plan to carry their weapons where everybody can see them while walking a mile and-a-half to and from the 12th Street Garage, despite the fact the city offered closer parking.

Ed Department Sued Over Guns

The Giffords Law Center, in conjunction with the American Federation of Teachers and the Southern Poverty Law Center, filed suit against the department in a D.C. federal court on Wednesday.
The groups argue that Education Secretary Betsy DeVos recently moved to green light the use by local school districts of federal grant dollars from the Student Support and Academic Enrichment Program, designed to help struggling schools, to instead purchase guns and training for teachers and faculty, an allegation DeVos denies.

NFA Trumps Kansas Law

The 10th U.S. Circuit upheld the past convictions of Shane Cox and Jeremy Kettler, who had previously been found guilty of violating federal laws concerning the manufacturing and selling of suppressors. While the men used a defense that they felt at the time that they committed their crime that Kansas state law insulated them from prosecution by the federal government, the court in their 48-page ruling did not concur.
Facebook Deletes Pages Of Triple Amputee Vet

Kolfage was the administrator of a number of Facebook pages, notably the pages Right Wing News and Military Grade Coffee, both of which were deleted recently as Facebook attempts to crack down on what it considers “misinformation†on the platform. Right Wing News had more than 3 million followers at the time of its blacklisting by Facebook.
Australia Bans Possession of Gun Blueprints

In 2015 New South Wales amended its laws to outlaw the possession of digital blueprints for firearms and strengthen existing laws prohibiting the manufacture of weapons.
Since 2015 Australian police have made a handful of seizures of 3D-printed firearms. A loaded 3D-printed handgun was seized by Queensland police in a raid on a methamphetamine lab allegedly associated with the Lone Wolf Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG). In December 2016, Victorian police seized a 3D printer, firearms, and drugs from properties raided in Melbourne. Cases have also been reported in Japan, the UK and the US where 3D-printed AR-15 rifles were used in two murder sprees reported in California.
Court Finds In Favor Of Worker With Gun In Car

In 2016, long-time Ameren Illinois company employee Bryan Knox consented to a search of his vehicle in a company lot that yielded a firearm. Terminated under Ameren’s Workplace Violence policy, his union appealed the firing and an arbitrator determined that he had been wrongfully dismissed because of protections offered by state law for guns in personal vehicles. While a District Court overturned the arbitration results after Ameren went to court on the matter, a panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit said last Friday that the law was, in fact, on Knox’s side.
Facebook Political Purge

On Thursday, October 11, Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s Head of Cybersecurity Policy and Oscar Rodriguez, Product Manager, announced the company was shutting down 559 pages and 251 accounts “created to stir up political debate.” Allegedly, the targets were guilty of “coordinated inauthentic behavior” intended “to mislead others about who they are, and what they are doing.” The targeted pages and accounts included many pages, and their administrators, who have gained popularity by voicing ideas outside the mainstream—including skepticism of violent and intrusive police tactics and support for libertarian ideas.
States Moving To Restrict Ammo

Ammunition laws are provided in several different flavors, all of which leave a bad taste in the mouth. Some, like those in D.C. and New York City, criminalize the actual possession of ammunition. Others, like legislation that just survived legal challenge in California, either tax ammunition or attempt to track it through microstamping–think tiny, engraved numbers. Although billed as measures to curb violent crime, the reality is that these laws are practically incapable of doing anything but raising costs and giving headaches to lawful gun owners.
