Bump Stock Ban Coming?
From Reason:
CNN was the first to report the news yesterday evening, citing “officials familiar with the matter.” An administration official confirmed to The New York Times that the rule would be unveiled “in the coming days to weeks.” Under Trump’s new regulation, a source tells CNN, bump stock owners would have 90 days to get rid of the devices on their own or turn them over to authorities.
Interstate Purchase Ban Challenged
From Guns.com:
The legal challenge came from a Washington, D.C. couple — Andrew and Tracey Hanson — who tried to buy handguns from a federally licensed firearms dealer in Texas but could not due to federal law adopted in the 1960s. Together with FFL holder Frederic Mance, the couple joined with gun rights advocates of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms in taking the government on, arguing that since the advent of federal background check systems the law makes little sense.
Constitutional Carry Moving Forward
From The Truth About Guns:
State Rep. Jonathan Stickland has filed a bill to allow “Constitutional Carry†— to let any Texan who legally owns a handgun carry it openly or concealed without first getting a permit— across the state.
After years of unsuccessful attempts, supporters of legislation that would allow people to carry concealed handguns without a permit in South Dakota anticipate revived prospects for the conservative prize once GOP Gov.-elect Kristi Noem takes office in January.
Education Is Power
From The Mercury News:
Do you want to reduce shootings? Educate. No young person I have ever known who has been taught proper gun safety and taught the seriousness of handling/owning a firearm has ever committed any criminal shooting. I teach Boy Scouts gun safety and marksmanship. Anyone is welcome to come when we have a class and I promise you will be impressed by how seriously Scouts as young as 11 take this.
Make firearms taboo and that is exactly what a young person will want to get their hands on.
NRA/SAF Sue Washington
From My Northwest:
On the same day that the National Rifle Association and Second Amendment Foundation announced they would be challenging Washington state gun measure I-1639 in a federal court, U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North, NRA president and former host of Fox News’ “War Stories with Oliver North,†told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson that he finds the measure not only unconstitutional, but also incredibly confusing.
Congressman Calls For Confiscation
From NBC News:
A Democratic congressman has proposed outlawing “military-style semiautomatic assault weapons†and forcing existing owners to sell their weapons or face prosecution, a major departure from prior gun control proposals that typically exempt existing firearms.
Police Chief Won’t Enforce WA Gun Law
From KXLY:
The police chief in Republic, Washington said on social media that he won’t allow his department to enforce the regulations passed by voters under Initiative 1639, saying the new gun laws violate the 2nd amendment.
A Total Gun Ban Is The Goal
From The Federalist:
The tragedy at the heart of the gun control debate is that any firearm that can be used for good can also be used for evil. There are not good guns and bad guns. There are just guns, used by good and bad people. Any firearm that is effective for legitimate uses like hunting and self-defense will also be effective when used for evil purposes.
Nor can guns always be kept out of the wrong hands, for we cannot always know who will do evil, and those known to be hellbent on doing harm to others will often circumvent restrictions. Thus, the only realistic way to prevent mass shootings and end gun violence would be a total gun ban, ruthlessly enforced. Unfortunately, gun control advocates’ rhetoric is deliberately crafted to obscure this uncomfortable reality.
Law Would Ban Gun Builds
From Ammoland:
H.R. 7115 reads: “To prohibit the sale, acquisition, distribution in commerce, or import into the United States of certain firearm receiver castings or blanks, assault weapon parts kits, and machinegun parts kits and the marketing or advertising of such castings or blanks and kits on any medium of electronic communications, to require homemade firearms to have serial numbers, and for other purposes.â€
Gun Grabbers Coming Back In 2019
From Associated Press:
Newly ascendant Democrats are promising congressional action on gun control amid a rash of mass shootings, including a late-night assault at a California bar that killed 12 people.
Ammo Control In Michigan
From Ammoland:
Davis’s “bullet bill†ordinance would require law enforcement approval before a buyer could purchase ammunition. The buyer would also have to go through a mental screening to qualify to buy ammo. The buyer would need to repeat these steps for each new ammunition purchase. The purchaser would be forced to cover the cost of the screening.
Red Flag Law Results In Police Killing Man
From Baltimore Sun:
Two Anne Arundel County police officers serving one of Maryland’s new “red flag†protective orders to remove guns from a house killed a Ferndale man after he refused to give up his gun and a struggle ensued early Monday morning, police said.
Gun Stores Prepare For New Restrctions
From KOMO News:
The owner of Wade’s Eastside Guns, Wade Gaughran, said the new gun restrictions under Initiative 1639 punish people who follow the rules and bump up the cost of doing business.
“Now we’ve got a law that’s going to cause problems for us and it’s going to cause problems for consumers and the impact on crime is going to be zero,†said Gaughran.
