Changing Language To Advance More Gun Restrictions
From Bearing Arms:
Recognizing the deeply held beliefs of gun rights advocates and the polarizing nature of the gun control debate, Dean Vermund said he has begun to modulate his vocabulary in an attempt to have a more constructive dialogue.
“When I’m speaking to someone who doesn’t agree with me, I’ve started to use the term ‘gun safety’ because I believe gun safety is something a pediatrician and public health official has every right to talk about,†said Vermund, an epidemiologist and pediatrician. “I think gun safety might be a place where we can come together to have a conversation.â€
Bump Stock Ban Now In Effect
From Guns.com:
As gun rights groups and Second Amendment advocates sought a nationwide injunction against the move with the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday, the pending rule change by government regulators to reclassify bump stocks as “machine guns†was set to become effective on March 26. In response, RW Arms, the leading retailer of the devices, announced they would seek to turn in their remaining inventory of bump stocks to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Removing Self Defense Isn’t Caring
From Bearing Arms:
Gun control isn’t “caring†or “valuing†citizens. It’s treating them like children who can’t be trusted with a toy because someone else did something wrong.
Stop pretending like you have my best interests at heart. You don’t. You want to turn people like me and me into criminals so you can feel better about yourself so that you can feel morally superior, but I refuse to roll over and allow it.
Women Who Shot In Self Defense
From The Truth About Guns:
#MeToo: Women Who Shot Men in Self-Defense is a special book, just out in 2018. Special, not just in being another powerful tool against the prejudice against guns and individual self-defense so common in society, but in its development and focus, too.
Conn Court Rules Against Civil Rights
From Powerline Blog:
The Connecticut Supreme Court’s decision is not a good faith exercise of judicial judgment. The four-judge majority engaged in political activism by issuing an anti-gun ruling that is obviously wrong under the Constitution and federal law. It will be reversed by the U.S. Supreme Court. But there is a lesson here: liberals love to talk about the rule of law, but what they mean is rule by lawyers. Rule by lawyers who dictate policies that the people and their elected representatives don’t want, and that are likely to be at odds with the Constitution. This Connecticut decision is a prime example.
Oregon Gun Restriction Bill Stopped
From Bearing Arms:
But now that a concrete bill is in front of them, Andrews said, Oregon legislators aren’t as interested in passing wide-reaching gun control legislation. In fact, they’re keeping the bill from moving forward.
Insatiable Gun Banners
From The Federalist:
While Sen. Chris Murphy teed-up one of his fact-deprived harangues about the AR-15, he also asked why Americans needed “semi-automatic†rifles, at all. “Nobody needs an AR-15 to hunt,†the Connecticut senator tweeted. “Nobody needs a semi-automatic rifle to defend their home. But mass shooters NEED these weapons in order to murder as many people as efficiently as possible. And so nobody will miss them when they are illegal – except for the killers.â€
Be Prepared, Be Armed
From Breitbart:
You cannot choose where evil will strike, you can only choose to be prepared when it does. And being armed is part of being prepared.
American Gun Estimates Are Too Low
From WeaponsMan:
We believe that the correct number is much higher — somewhere between 412 and 660 million.   You may wonder how we came to that number, so buckle up (and cringe, if you’re a math-phobe, although it never gets too theoretical): unlike most of the academics and reporters we linked above, we’re going to use publicly available data, and show our work.
Texas Senator Introduces Gun Sanctuary Bill
From The National Sentinel:
Sen. Bob Hall (R-Edgewood) filed Senate Bill 378 (SB378) on January 17. The bill would prohibit any state government agency, personnel or public funds from enforcing any federal gun control regulation or law “if the federal statute, order, rule, or regulation or international law imposes a prohibition, restriction, or other regulation, such as a capacity, size, or configuration limitation, that does not exist under the laws of this state.â€
Bill To Require NICS Check on Ammo
From Guns.com:
Under measures proposed in the House by Florida’s Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the Senate by Connecticut’s Richard Blumenthal, would-be ammunition buyers would have to be first vetted by the FBI’s National Instant Background Check System. The lawmakers, allied with national gun control groups, say the move to add controls to bullet sales would help save lives.
Black Gun Owners
From The New York Times:
Of course, Hayden was not alone in his stance of armed self-defense in the pre-Civil War era. Ms. Sinha notes: “Black abolitionists, especially those involved in the abolitionist underground and Vigilance Committees, tended to arm themselves … fugitive slaves, often resorted to armed self-defense when confronted by slave catchers and law enforcement.†The Underground Railroad activist Harriet Tubman was said to carry a revolver and did not hesitate to point it, according to her biographer, Sarah Bradford.
Gun Controller Texted About Shooting NRA Members
From CT Mirror:
State Capitol police expelled an unnamed gun-control advocate from a public hearing Monday after someone photographed her sending a text message in which she imagined shooting NRA members and a legislator opposed to gun control.
Washington Lawmaker Offers Bill To Repeal Gun Law
From My Northwest:
“Initiative 1639 is unconstitutional in many respects and punishes law-abiding citizens, while doing nothing to keep firearms away from criminals,†said Shea in a written statement.
In its current form, the law represents the most sweeping, comprehensive gun control legislation in any state. It enacts waiting periods and background checks on the purchase of semi-automatic weapons, an increase to the minimum age for purchasing semi-automatic weapons from 18 to 21, storage requirements for firearms, and a class-C felony for any gun owner whose firearm is used by an unlicensed party.
Montana Passes Gun Preemption Bill
From The AP:
The Montana House on Thursday passed two bills seeking to prohibit local governments from passing strict gun ordinances.
Republican Rep. Matt Regier said his bills are a response to Missoula city ordinances that require background checks for private gun sales and ban weapons in certain public buildings, parks, places of public assembly and polling sites.
