The NRA And Memorial Day
From NRA’s First Freedom:
When dedicating the Gettysburg National Cemetery in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln honored those who gave their “last full measure of devotion†to defending American freedom. A few years later, Americans began to commemorate “Decoration Day†on May 30 as a time to visit the graves of those who had given their lives during the Civil War. Later, Decoration Day became Memorial Day, honoring the sacrifices of all American soldiers.
Just a few years later another institution was created that is closely related to Memorial Day: the National Rifle Association.
Founded in 1871, the NRA began by dedicating itself to the safety of American soldiers. Because of the efforts of the NRA over the ensuing century and a half, many more American soldiers have been able to accomplish their missions and to return home alive.
California Facing Lawsuit From Gun Orgs
From The Truth About Guns:
Today, attorneys for plaintiffs including individuals, a Los Angeles firearm and ammunition retailer, Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), National Rifle Association of America (NRA), California Gun Rights Foundation (CGF), and Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) filed a federal lawsuit challenging state and local policies and enforcement practices that violate Second and Fourteenth Amendment rights. A copy of the lawsuit can be found at www.firearmspolicy.org/brandy.
NRA Board Member Comes Out Against 80% Guns
From The Truth About Guns:
…The head of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association said the sale of ghost guns is a growing problem.
“These ’80 percent’ guns are providing a way for prohibited people to buy a firearm,†Tom King of the NYSRPA said, referring to people who don’t have a gun permit or are otherwise prohibited from possessing a gun.
NRA Sues San Francisco Over First Amendment
From Townhall.com:
The gun rights group argues in the lawsuit, which was filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, that the city and county of San Francisco as well as the San Francisco Board of Supervisors infringed on the NRA’s free speech rights and is trying to blacklist those associated with the group.
Time To End The NRA?
From The Truth About Guns:
The National Rifle Association — America’s oldest civil rights organization — is in an existential crisis today brought on by mismanagement, cronyism, and self-dealing by its leadership. Every week brings forth a new allegation, a new bit of evidence that the that the NRA’s leaders are more interested in lining their own pockets and enjoying the perquisites of power than promoting marksmanship, gun safety, and defending the right to keep and bear arms.
Gun Control Hidden In Violence Against Women Act
From Reason:
The NRA, in other words, does not care about violence against women, or at least it does not care enough to accept the new gun control provisions in the House version of the bill. This blithe dismissal of the NRA’s legitimate complaints about those provisions makes Klobuchar, a former prosecutor, sound like an authoritarian demagogue who equates concern about civil liberties with indifference to crime.
Police Oppose Washington State Gun Law
From NRA ILA:
“The people of Washington deserve to know that the sheriffs and police officers throughout the Evergreen State believe that Initiative 1639 is an attack on every law-abiding citizen’s constitutional rights,†said Keely Hopkins, NRA Washington state director. “After learning that Washington’s premier law enforcement associations oppose this initiative, we hope the Washington voters will finally realize that 1639 is nothing more than a feel good measure that will have zero impact on crime.”
Deerfield Gun Ban Struck Down
From Townhall:
A judge blocked a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines in the small town of Deerfield, Illinois, less than 24 hours before it was meant to go into effect.
The decision, handed down Tuesday evening in the 19th Judicial Circuit Court in Lake County, Illinois, is a small victory for gun rights groups, who sued the Chicago suburb in April after it became the first municipality to ban assault weapons following the Parkland high school shooting. The Deerfield ordinance was passed unanimously by all six board members on April 2.
California Turns Man Into Criminal With Registration, Confiscates Guns
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 14/Jun/2018 07:00
From NRA-ILA:
California residents attempting to comply with the Golden State’s ever-increasing swamp of firearms laws and regulations should take warning. According to a report out of Bakersfield, a good faith effort to obey the state’s labyrinthine firearm rules will not spare a gun owner in technical violation of the law from the wrath of the California Department of Justice.
The KGET report explained that during his attempt to comply with state law, Kirschenmann submitted photos of “an illegally modified†AR-15 to the California DOJ. This prompted an investigation by the DOJ that culminated in a raid of Kirschenmann’s home. Once inside the property, investigators allegedly discovered several unregistered “assault weapons,†a pair of suppressors, and what California terms a “multiburst trigger activator.â€
NYT: Banks And Credit Cards Should Refuse Gun Sales
From The New York Times:
For the past year, chief executives have often talked about the new sense of moral responsibility that corporations have to help their communities and confront social challenges even when Washington won’t.
What if the finance industry — credit card companies like Visa, Mastercard and American Express; credit card processors like First Data; and banks like JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo — were to effectively set new rules for the sales of guns in America?
It looks like The New York Times is now pro-big business, if that business is big enough to pressure retailers in to doing what the NYT wants. This is more proof that “liberals” are not liberal and that they will do whatever is necessary to get their way. If big government can’t do it then they will pressure big business to do it. If this succeeds it will set a dangerous precedent.
National Concealed Reciprocity In The Senate
From NRA-ILA:
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act has already passed the House with a bipartisan majority. Your NRA is now laying the groundwork for success in the Senate. We’re ensuring every Senate office knows where we stand on this landmark legislation for gun owners.
Mark Geist On What Happened In Benghazi
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 23/Jul/2016 12:00
From NRA:
Mark “Oz” Geist served 12 years in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Annex Security Team that fought the Battle of Benghazi. He answered freedom’s call when Washington wouldn’t even pick up the phone. Mark has the courage to tell the truth about Benghazi and how our politicians’ inexcusable inaction led to the deaths of four Americans, including Navy SEALs Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods.
The History Of The Gun Control Movement
Posted by Brian in Law, Threat Watch on 9/Dec/2015 07:00
From The Tenth Amendment Center:
Kopel notes that gun control primarily originated after the Civil War as a means to keep freed slaves from having access to firearms, as well as to prevent dueling. Throughout the 1800s, he writes, gun control laws were almost “exclusively a Southern phenomenon.â€Â Outside of that region, the only type of gun control that really caught on was prohibition of concealed-carry, although open carry was still permitted.
What finally brought gun control into the national spotlight was apprehension over revolutionary movements after the communists overthrew of the Russian provisional government in 1917. The gun control movement gained further support for restricting handguns when Prohibition led to a major crime wave in the 1920s.
