Sanctuary Counties For Gun Rights
From KTVZ Oregon:
A measure challenging gun regulations is popping up around the state. Since 2015, four counties have passed a measure known as the Second Amendment Preservation ordinance, and commissioners in Malheur, Union and Lake counties have heard the same measure in the past few weeks.
The ordinance is a reaction to the Oregon Firearms Safety Act, passed by the state Legislature in 2015, which requires background checks for transfers of firearms between private parties. These county ordinances allow sheriffs to ignore this law – which gun advocates see as unconstitutional.
FBI Agents Involved In Oregon Standoff Shooting Under Investigation
From Oregon Live:
An FBI agent is suspected of lying about firing twice at Robert “LaVoy” Finicium and may have gotten help from four other FBI agents in covering up afterward, authorities revealed Tuesday.
Investigators gave no details to explain why the one FBI agent, a member of the Hostage Rescue Team, wouldn’t report the two shots. They also didn’t indicate what his four colleagues on the team did to warrant investigation other than saying it was related to conduct after the shooting.
Feds Warn Of Gadsden Flag And Other “Extremist” Symbols
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 8/Feb/2016 07:00
From Reason.com:
The report includes several “visual indicators” to help police determine whether they’re dealing with “extremist and disaffected individuals.” These range from images associated with specific political groups, such as the Oath Keepers and Three Percenters, to a more generic patriotic symbol, the Gadsden flag—a famous Revolutionary War banner featuring a coiled rattlesnake and the slogan “Don’t Tread on Me.” One of the “indicators” is a slightly altered version of apicture popular with fans of the Grateful Dead; the guide does not note this potential source of confusion, describing it only as “common sovereign citizen imagery.”
According to this bulletin a gathering of U.S. Soccer fans could be construed as an extremist rally.
Oregonians Rally Against Gun Control, Won’t Comply
Posted by Brian in Law, Threat Watch on 19/May/2015 07:00
A group from Oregon has set up a Facebook page for the rally. It is set for May 30 at the capital Salem.
This is a result of Oregon passing SB 941.
Oregon Bill Expands Background Checks and Provides For Confiscation
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 21/Apr/2015 07:00
From Breitbart:
The Statesman Journal reports that Prozanski pushed the measure in spite of the testimony against expanded background checks from law enforcement personnel like Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer. Palmer cited the the ineffectiveness of background checks to show that the passage of SB 941 is really just a way to get government more heavily involved in regulating the Second Amendment. He called it “borderline treasonous,†and said his sheriff’s department would not enforce it.
Oregon Sheriff says he won’t enforce new law:
Sheriff Daniel, who is the new top cop for Josephine County which shares a border with northern California, told reporters that believes this latest gun control law goes against his county’s charter. He also said his department doesn’t have a sufficient number of deputies to pursue lawbreakers who are committing a frivolous misdemeanor.

Traffic Stop Turns Into Shootout
Posted by Brian in Threat Watch, Warriors on 15/Oct/2013 08:07
From oregonlive.com:
http://youtu.be/q1gYEG1TzBk
This is dramatic proof of why it is so important to train to stay in the fight until the threat is neutralized. This shooter was mortally wounded yet continued to manipulate his weapon, move to cover, retreat to his vehicle while covering his movement, then drive the vehicle half a mile before succumbing to his wounds. Fortunately the officer recovered from his injuries.
Oregon: Loaded Guns In Public Forbidden
From OregonLive.com:
“The ordinance reflects a legislative determination,” the justice wrote, “that the risk of death or serious injury to members of the public moving about in public places is increased by the threat posed by individuals who recklessly fail to unload their firearms.”
Let me get this straight. Having a loaded weapon is “reckless”?
State and Local Officials Won’t Enforce Gun Laws
From Fox News:
But in Oregon, Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller wrote a letter to Biden Monday saying his department will not enforce any new gun laws it considers unconstitutional.
Meanwhile, 1200 WOAI reports that in Texas, Republican state Rep. Steve Toth plans to introduce a bill that would make it illegal to enforce in the state any federal laws restricting semi-automatic firearms or the size of gun magazines.
Kentucky Sheriff explains his views here.
Portland Shooter Confronted By Concealed Carry Holder
From KGW.com:
“He was working on his rifle,” said Meli. Â “He kept pulling the charging handle and hitting the side.”
The break in gunfire allowed Meli to pull out his own gun, but he never took his eyes off the shooter.
From The Truth About Guns:
What we now know was the beginning of gunman Jacob Tyler Roberts’s shooting spree came as a complete shock to everyone. Nick, holding young Noah at the time, turned to Casey and said, “Are you serious?!?â€. Casey’s simple answer? “Yesâ€. As Ashley told us, Nick tossed Noah to her and drew his concealed carry weapon in a single motion.
From The Volokh Conspiracy:
On December 11, Jacob Tyler Roberts killed two people at the mall and wounded a third. Nick Meli, who had a concealed carry license, was apparently at the mall, took out his gun, aimed at Roberts, but didn’t shoot because there was someone running across the field of fire. Meli then took cover, and Roberts shot and killed himself.
Portland Bomb Plot Thwarted
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 27/Nov/2010 01:40
From OregonLive.com:
Mohamed Osman Mohamud, 19, a Somali-born U.S. citizen, was arrested at 5:42 p.m., 18 minutes before the tree lighting was to occur, on an accusation of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. The felony charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
“This defendant’s chilling determination is a stark reminder that there are people — even here in Oregon — who are determined to kill Americans,” said Oregon U.S. Attorney Dwight Holton. “The good work of law enforcement protected Oregonians in this case — and we have no reason to believe there is any continuing threat arising from this case.”
Since the perpetrator was naturalized I would like him stripped of his citizenship.
Smuggling operations infecting NORTHERN border
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Threat Watch on 15/Aug/2010 21:25
“The northern border is apparently a new focus of the arms trade. The Yamhill Valley News-Register of McMinnville, Ore., reported in May that a major cache of weapons was found in a storage unit in Ferndale, Wash.
The alleged smuggler was listed in the complaint as Iranian illegal alien Hamid Malekpour, who sometimes uses the alias Oliver King.
Longmire reports that weapons smuggling from the north is increasingly common, but the purpose for Iranians to bring in weapons through Washington state is unclear.”
Agents eventually arrested him at a storage locker in Ferndale where they say King had stowed over $30,000 worth of guns and ammo.”
