The Prowler flew its last deployment with the “Garudas†of VAQ-134 aboard USSGeorge H.W. Bush (CVN 77) in November 2014. It is being replaced by the EA-18G Growler, more often called the Grizzly in order not to be confused with the EA-6B during flight operations. While the Navy is retiring the Prowler, plans are for it to remain in service with the Marine Corps until at least 2019.

Facing Your Fears, Getting To Know The Gun
From The Federalist:
Seeing a gun in my house, looking at it lying on my bed while it was being cleaned (why was he cleaning it on our bed?), watching someone pick it up and handle it, and handling it myself all made my guts scream. I had a very emotional reaction to that hunk of metal, even though I knew it was unloaded.
Go ahead and unlearn that by getting comfortable handling a gun. Practice picking it up with your finger alongside the frame outside the trigger guard, loading and unloading it with dummy ammo, and aiming it properly when it’s unloaded. Read this article, too.

K9 Heat Injuries
Know what to do if the worst happens during the hot months.
From The Loadout Room:
It’s no secret that dogs pant to expel heat. So telling you panting is a sign of distress would be absurd. Dogs pant often, without being in distress. So how do you know when it’s an emergency?
Dogs that are being affected by heat will extend their tongues as far out of their mouths as possible, expanding the surface area in order to maximize efficiency of heat expulsion. Oftentimes, dogs that are starting to become affected by heat will outstretch their tongues, with the tip of the tongue expanding at the edges, making the end of the tongue appear wider than the base. As body temperature increases, the edges at the tip of the tongue will curl upwards and many dogs will lift their lips to expose their gums to further facilitate the cooling process. The tongue will begin to turn a deep red or even purple color as the dog succumbs to high temperature.

PayPal Would Allow Firearms If Peter Thiel Were Still In Charge
From The Daily Caller:
American entrepreneur Peter Thiel, co-founder and former CEO of PayPal says if he was still running the company, legal transactions involving firearms would be permitted through  its online service. Thiel appeared before attendees at the libertarian oriented Freedom Fest at Planet Hollywood Saturday, when he debated Whole Foods CEO John Mackey.
“They wouldn’t be doing that if I was still running it,†Thiel said when asked by The Daily Caller.
One Third of Americans Own Guns
From US News:
“We were not surprised by the degree of gun ownership,” said study lead author Bindu Kalesan. “But what is never really emphasized in studies that quantify ownership is how it relates to the concept of gun culture — meaning involvement in social events that revolve around guns.”
The poll of 4,000 adults indicated that gun owners are more than twice as likely as non-owners to engage in gun-related activities involving friends and family.
Parts of NY SAFE Act Repealed
From Buffalo News:
The Cuomo administration’s director of state operations, James Malatras, has signed a memorandum of understanding with State Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan to undo certain aspects of the New York SAFE Act gun control law, though the major changes affect provisions of the law that were never implemented and that pertain to ammunition sales.
Curiously, the memorandum of agreement does not contain the governor’s name, nor that of Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie. But State Senate Republicans said the effect of the memorandum signed by the State Senate and the Cuomo administration effectively blocks implementation of a couple of SAFE Act provisions.

From Mosin To Modern Sporter
Posted by Brian in Long Guns, Mosin Nagant on 13/Jul/2015 16:35
From Tactical Life:
Add that to the sheer numbers shipped and I think it’s perfectly permissible to ask the die-hard collectors, “Just how many of these millions of rifles do we really need to stick in museums and pass down for posterity in their ‘original’ military form?†Admittedly, I’ve never yet been able to bring myself to sporterize a classic Mauser or Enfield, but let’s be real here—there are more than enough Mosin-Nagants in varying grades and configurations out there to keep the collectors happy collecting and the sporterizers happy sporterizing.
Seattle Proposes Tax on Guns and Ammo
From Seattle Times:
“Gun violence is very expensive,†Burgess said, noting that the direct medical costs of treating 253 gunshot victims at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center last year surpassed $17 million, with taxpayers covering more than $12 million of that. “It’s time for the gun industry to help defray those costs and this is a very reasonable way to do it.â€
The tax, imposed on gun sellers, would be $25 on each firearm sold in the city and five cents on each round of ammunition.
Sales of antique firearms and some other sales could see relief from the tax while individuals selling no more than one gun per quarter would be exempted.
Pro-ISIS Indonesian Pilots
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 10/Jul/2015 07:00
From The Intercept:
“Both [pilots] appear to be influenced by pro-IS elements including extremist online propaganda by well-known radical Indonesia outlets and a suspected Indonesian foreign terrorist fighter who is likely to be in either Syria or Iraq,†the report states.
“Pilots, air crew and others with access to and within the aviation environment can pose obvious threats if these persons are radicalized. Their access and knowledge of security and safety regimes provides the ability to attempt attacks as witnessed by past global events,†warns the report, which also notes that a recent issue of Inspire, the magazine published by Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, encouraged attacks by those involved in aviation.

Egypt, Israel May Join Against ISIS
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 7/Jul/2015 07:00
From Arutz Sheva:
An Egyptian source has revealed that if after launching a brutal attack in Sinai the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group approaches Gaza, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi may “invite” the IDF to strike it.
The source, who is “familiar with Egypt’s decision-making process,” told Haaretz on Thursday that Sisi may give the green light given that Gaza falls under Israel’s responsibility.
