ATF Encourages Snitching On Your Ex
From The Truth About Guns:
If you’re struggling with how best to commemorate the greeting card industry’s biggest day of the year, our friends at the ATF have an idea targeted specifically at those of you with a bad breakup or two in your past. Why not celebrate the day by going all Stasi on that ex who done you wrong?
ATF Used Loophole To Create Database Of Almost A Billion Gun Records
From The Washington Free Beacon:
The ATF disclosed to lawmakers that it manages a database of 920,664,765 firearm purchase records, including both digital and hard copy versions of these transactions. When a licensed gun store goes out of business, its private records detailing gun transactions become ATF property and are stored at a federal site in West Virginia. The practice has contributed to the fears of gun advocacy groups and Second Amendment champions in Congress that the federal government is creating a national database of gun owners, which violates longstanding federal statutes.
Forbes Freaks Out Over New Ghost Gunner, Shills For State Power
From Forbes:
Dubbed the Zero Percenter, because it can turn a completely untouched piece of aluminum into a firearm, the software and a few accompanying components are Wilson’s answer to what he considers government overreach. He seems to care little about the “open source†terrorism and crime it might unleash. So-called privately made firearms or ghost guns, the type Wilson has long championed, have confounded law enforcement officials for years. According to the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, from 2016 through 2020, some 23,906 suspected ghost guns were recovered from crime scenes, including 325 homicides or attempted homicides.
“There’s always going to be this mystical platonic line where a component becomes more like a gun than not a gun, and to regulate those intermediary steps of manufacture in any serious level completely disrupts modern American manufacturing, the American system,â€Â says Wilson, dressed in black and brandishing a 24-carat gold ring, embossed with the initials DD. “They are literally trying to control the world. But as the Zero Percenter demonstrates, blocks of metal are also guns.â€
Bill To Abolish The ATF
From Ammoland:
HR 3960 effectively scatters the functions of BATFE across the entire Department of Justice. We could very well see some provisions kicked over to the FBI. Others could go to the United States Marshalls. It would likely be harder to keep track of every function. It could very well depend on who the attorney general is. For a hack like Merrick Garland, it is a huge chance for mischief, to put it mildly.
ATF Going After Metal Tubes
From Ammoland:
A solvent trap is designed to catch solvent from a firearm when the gun is being cleaned. The solvent trap attaches to the front of the gun by using a threaded barrel. The solvent collects at the bottom of the tube of the trap. Solvent traps have been popular amongst firearms enthusiasts that with possession of proper Licenses can convert the traps into fully functioning suppressors by drilling out internal plugs and the closed tubing end.
“Solvent Traps†or “Fuel Filter Kits†are not regulated by the Gun Control Act (GCA) or the National Firearms Act (NFA), because and let us be honest here, we are talking about metal tubing. But that might be changing with the new rules expected this month. Certain senior members of the ATF leadership see solvent traps as a loophole to get around NFA restrictions on hearing protection devices, aka firearms silencers.
Form 4s Can Be Filed Electronically, Making It Easier To Get NFA Items and Also For The ATF To Create A Database
From Forgotten Weapons:
Biden Admin Stockpiling Gun Owner Info
From The Washington Free Beacon:
The Biden administration in just the past year alone stockpiled the records of more than 54 million U.S. gun owners and is poised to drastically alter gun regulations to ensure that information on Americans who own firearms ultimately ends up in the federal government’s hands, according to internal Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) documents obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
ATF Wants To Double Its Size
From Ammoland:
AmmoLand News has learned from a leaked Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) video conference meeting that the agency is looking to double its size over the next five years.
ATF Has Gone To Insane Lengths To Get Test Results They Want
From Ammoland:
“ATF has a long history of using zip ties to make machine guns…See for yourself,†he wrote elsewhere in the thread, providing links to an ATF response letter revealing how they arrived at that conclusion, with the “help†of zip ties, duct tape, and chain.
ATF Tries To Redefine “Firearm”
The proposed rule, the “Definition of Frame or Receiver and Identification of Firearms†was introduced in May and signed by Attorney General Merrick Garland. Public comments on the rule closed Thursday.
It would amend the Code of Federal Regulations, including the term “firearm†in order to regulate firearm kits, and amend the term “gunsmith†to clarify that gunsmiths must mark unlicensed guns — effectively making the individual the manufacturer. It would implement regulations on nearly all portions of a firearm.
