First Carry Permits in D.C.
From Washington Free Beacon:
The District of Columbia has issued its first concealed handgun carry permits. As of January 26, there are eight civilians who can legally carry a firearm in the nation’s capital. Currently, more permit applicants have been denied than approved.
DEA Wanted to Spy on Gun Show Attendees
From The Wall Street Journal:
A federal agent proposed using license-plate readers to scan vehicles around gun shows in order to aid gun-trafficking investigations, according to an internal Justice Department email.
Justice Department officials said Tuesday that the 2009 proposal was rejected by superiors and never implemented. The email was part of a series of Drug Enforcement Administration documents describing how the agency is building a national database tracking the movements of vehicles in the U.S. The documents were obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union through a Freedom of Information Act request and reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.
Englishmen Call For a Relaxing of Gun Control in Wake of Paris Attacks
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 31/Jan/2015 07:00
From American Thinker:
This is where we find ourselves now. Every citizen in Europe and the UK faces the risk of an Islamic attack merely while going about normal day-to-day business. UK citizens in particular face this risk whilst being denied weapons of self defense. In the past I have fully and enthusiastically supported the UK’s complete ban on hand guns. But immediately after the killing of Lee Rigby I began to reconsider the wisdom of that ban and I now utterly oppose it. As things stand in the UK, hand guns are illegal. For those shotguns you could own, extremely strict licensing specifically disallows self defense as a motive for ownership and so the old adage “In countries where guns are illegal, only the criminals have guns†is the frankly mad situation we now have in the UK.
From The Algemeiner:
What happened in Paris, however, has now led me to modify my opposition. What happens when the state does not protect its citizens? There have now been repeated murderous assaults on Jews in France and elsewhere. Isn’t it time for them to be armed? It is the principle of the English philosopher Hobbes that we relinquish some of our freedoms to the state in exchange for its protection.
Where they fail, the contract is void. Europe has a strong tradition of restricting individuals from having access to firearms – even the police under normal conditions. As a result, its citizens are far less likely to be killed. But if assaults on Jews are increasing in France, I believe those Jews who remain must be prepared to arm themselves.
European Police Departments Arming Up
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 30/Jan/2015 07:00
From Yahoo News:
With the deaths of the three French officers during three days of terror in the Paris region and the suggestion of a plot in Belgium to kill police, European law enforcement agencies are rethinking how — and how many — police should be armed.
Scotland Yard said Sunday it was increasing the deployment of officers allowed to carry firearms in Britain, where many cling to the image of the unarmed “bobby.” In Belgium, where officials say a terror network was plotting to attack police, officers are again permitted to take their service weapons home.
Arrest Warrant For David Gregory Was Denied By D.C. Attorney General
From Judicial Watch:
“The Affidavit in Support of An Arrest Warrant†confirms that D.C. Detective Wayne Gerrish believed there was probable cause that Mr. Gregory had committed a crime and requested an arrest warrant for Gregory. Despite the detailed request, Andrew Fois, D.C. Deputy Attorney General for Public Safety, declined to the issue the warrant.
NY Sheriff Tells Citizens To Throw Pistol Permits In The Trash
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 28/Jan/2015 07:00
From The Washington Free Beacon:
Three counties—Fulton, Albany, and Schenectady— were chosen in January to take part in the pilot program for pistol permit renewals. Five hundred “invitations,†as the state government dubbed them, are being sent to residents in each of the counties.
“I’m asking everybody who gets these invitations to throw them into the garbage—that’s where they belong,â€Â Fulton County Sheriff Thomas Lorey said at a meeting with Second Amendment supporters.
Firearms Dealers Being Denied By Payment Processors
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 21/Jan/2015 07:00
From Daily Signal:
“Being shut out from mainstream payment processors makes us feel like we are part of some type of shady business when, in fact, there is more regulation and documentation required for federally licensed firearms dealers than most businesses,†said Trevor Blandford of Terminal Performance Associates in Caroline, Va.
Opponents of I-594 Gather in House Gallery and Swap Guns
From Seattle Post-Intelligencer:
A group of 15 to 18 gun advocates did march into the Capitol.
They arrived in the House Gallery just as the state House of Representatives was adjourning. They heckled members on the floor, and made a show of violating I-594 by exchanging weapons in the Gallery. A Washington State Patrol officer instructed one demonstrator on how to more safely hold his gun.
New ATF Ruling Makes It A Crime To Use A Business’s Machinery To Make Your Own Gun
From The Examiner:
The ruling, signed by ATF Director B. Todd Jones on Friday, also holds that the businesses must “identify (mark) any such firearm and maintain manufacturing records,†and that Gun Control Act requirements may not be avoided by allowing persons to perform processes on machinery, tools and equipment a business controls access to. Excluded from the ruling are weapons and devices regulated by the National Firearms Act.
Gun Rights Activists Plan To Print A Gun At The Capitol
From The Texas Tribune:
Come and Take It Texas announced late Monday that it had purchased “the Ghost Gunner,†a machine that uses 3-D technology to build firearms, for use at the Jan. 13 event, where participants had already planned to carry rifles and shotguns to protest the state’s gun laws.
Insomnia Reason Enough to Take Your Guns in NY
Posted by Brian in Law, News, Threat Watch on 8/Jan/2015 07:00
From American Thinker:
Although the Cold War ended over two decades ago, a lawsuit filed December 17 in U.S. District Court in Rochester, NY alleges that such heavy-handed police-state tactics are presently being employed in Andrew Cuomo’s New York.  The suit, filed by attorney Paloma Capanna on behalf of plaintiff Donald Montgomery, alleges that the New York State Police ordered the permanent confiscation of Mr. Montgomery’s registered handguns after he sought treatment for insomnia.  The confiscation was ordered under Cuomo’s “SAFE Act†gun-control law.
Second Amendment Foundation Sues State of Washington
From SAF.org:
“We took this action due to the confusing and arbitrary language and nature of I-594,†Gottlieb explained. “Three of our plaintiffs, including my son, are residents of other states and cannot legally borrow handguns for personal protection while traveling in Washington. Under I-594, all transfers must be done through federally-licensed firearms dealers, but under federal law, dealers cannot legally transfer handguns to residents of other states. I-594 also essentially prohibits our non-resident plaintiffs from storing their own firearms here.
Wendy Davis Only Said She Supported Gun Rights to Get Elected
From The Washington Examiner:
“There is one thing that I would do differently in that campaign, and it relates to the position that I took on open-carry,†Davis told the San Antonio Express-News on Monday. “I made a quick decision on that with a very short conversation with my team and it wasn’t really in keeping with what I think is the correct position on that issue.â€
Davis added that she does support “people’s right to own and to bear arms in appropriate situations,†but fears that open carry would be used “to intimidate and cause fear.â€
Wounded Warrior Project Appears to be Anti Gun
The Wounded Warrior Project declined an interview with Gun Talk Radio:
“While we appreciate the interest in having a WWP representative on your show on Veterans Day we are not able to participate in interviews or activities with media/organizations that are related to firearms,†said Ms. Coleman in her email.
That really rocked us because we knew of all the firearms-related activities used to raise money for WWP. I asked for clarification, and Coleman reconfirmed their position. That Sunday I talked about it on the air and sent out a tweet (@guntalk) with the information. Some doubted that I had reported it correctly, so we posted the entire email exchange on our Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/notes/gun-talk/wounded-warrior-project-email-exchange/10151354082553313
Wisconsin Newspaper Calls For Repeal of Second Amendment
From The Wisconsin Gazette:
The fate of the Second Amendment should have been sealed when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that past rulings by their predecessors were wrong, that in fact the amendment that provided for a “well regulated militia” really guaranteed every individual the right to own a gun. Wow. That is an interesting reading of the English language. What the Supremes have done is to not only warp the meaning and make it into twisted law, but to further prohibit states and local governments from declaring their places free of legal guns. The conservative court once again rules against the power of states, a principle that used to be associated with darn liberals who wanted to make sure everyone had the right to vote, for example, even though they weren’t properly white enough. Now when a city or state wants to outlaw firearms, too bad. The conservatives took away their powers and rights in favor of Big Brother.
It boggles the mind that so many people choose to mis-read the second amendment while being perfectly able to read and interpret all the others.
