Obama Lies To Brazilians About Gun Laws
From The Federalist:
During a conversation with a host on stage during the digital innovation event, Obama took the opportunity to speak negatively about U.S. gun laws. He said, “Our gun laws in the United States don’t make much sense. Anybody can buy any weapon, any time, without much, if any, regulation. They can buy [guns] over the internet, they can buy machine guns.â€
His statement to a foreign audience includes six lies about our gun laws and one truth. Let’s start out on a positive note and cover the one true statement first.
“Red Flag” Laws Are Confiscation
From News With Views:
Lott mentioned that, “Depending upon the state, anyone from a family member, intimate partner, ex, house or apartment mates, or police can file a complaint.†That is scary enough; if an ex or even an angry or jealous family member wanted to, they could file a complaint. But we now live in very fluid times. Sue, a friend called me last week and related what had happened to her. Her daughter, Kerry, left a frantic text message that she needed her to come right away. Sue called Kerry to find out what was happening. Kerry was at a minor-league baseball game, enjoying herself and had no emergency. Sue called the police who told her that there is an app you can get that lets you use other people’s phone numbers. It happens that Kerry has a bit of a stalker situation at her work and she suspects that he is the one that made the call. But as the police told them, there is no way to trace who made the call.
I can easily imagine someone like that Red Flagging her. Or, there is another scenario I can imagine happening (and I don’t have much of an imagination or I’d be writing fiction and selling lots of books). That is someone(s) wanting to break into your house to rob you or worse, do to you what those men did to Carolyn Warren, above. With such open Red Flag laws, they can disarm you by cop. This isn’t farfetched. The police would take your guns and, by the time you got the situation rectified, you might be dead.
Illinois Introduces Bill To Fingerprint Anyone Who Wants To TOUCH A Gun
From The Truth About Guns:
The Illinois House Wednesday passed a bill to require the submission of fingerprints, along with higher fees in order to own, shoot or even handle a firearm or ammunition. Kathleen Willis’ Amendments to SB-1966 would also end private firearm transfers and even require immediate family members gifted a firearm to report themselves to the Illinois State Police under penalty of a felony.
The bill passed solely with Democrat votes, Democrats who claim to fight for poor, inner-city minorities. At least at election time. SB-1966, with its increased fees, has a guaranteed disparate impact upon poor people of color within the Land of Lincoln.
Is Salesforce Attacking Guns As A Distraction?
From Bearing Arms:
Which makes this move now rather curious. After all, there were plenty of companies adopting policies like this last year. If Benioff is so adamantly anti-gun, why didn’t he join the chorus then?
Maybe because he and his company weren’t looking like total scumbags back then?
You see, Forbes conveniently failed to mention one important fact about Salesforce, and that’s a lawsuit against the company. It seems that a group of 50 women is suing Salesforce for their role in facilitating human trafficking.
NY Hopes To Avoid Supreme Court By Dumping Law
From The Truth About Guns:
Until the Supreme Court agreed to hear the dispute, the city had defended the regulation vigorously and successfully, winning in two lower courts. In inviting public comment on the proposed changes, the Police Department said it continued to believe the regulation “furthers and important public-safety interest.â€
NY Law Headed To Supreme Court
From USA Today:
Gun rights groups are using New York City restrictions that may be repealed as a rallying cry to press the Supreme Court for a major expansion of its Second Amendment precedents.
Immigrant On Second Amendment
From The Truth About Guns:
I grew up thinking that the world is fair and if I don’t harm anyone, I wouldn’t be harmed. That worked out great for a while until the day that it didn’t, and I quickly realized that there are physically bigger people who do not always have the nicest of intentions.
Red Flag Fallout In Colorado
From Reason:
Commonly referred to as a “red flag law,” this type of legislation is part of a state-by-state strategy pushed by gun control activists who were galvanized by the 2018 shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Prior to the Parkland shooting, five states had some sort of red flag law on the books; not including H.B. 1177, there are now 14.
TX Speaker Blocks Citizens From Facebook Page
From The Truth About Guns:
Now, Lone Star Gun Rights has filed suit against Bonnen for blocking their access to his Facebook page (where they’ve tried to counter his dubious claims about the constitutional carry bill). Does that sound crazy? Tell that to a New York thee-judge Appeals Court panel that ruled President Trump couldn’t block readers from his social media accounts.
Washington Expands Reasons For Taking Guns
From Bearing Arms:
Now, the state wants to use ERPOs for more gun owners who, like the man who went to Northwest Hospital in early April, threaten to commit hate-fueled violence. Among a slew of gun violence prevention bills signed by Governor Jay Inslee in early May was an amendment to the current ERPO law that specifies that judges should consider whether a troubled gun owner has been convicted of “malicious harassment,†a category that includes behaviors like burning crosses and defacing property with swastikas. It’s the first hate-specific ERPO law in the country.
CO To Recall More Politicians Over Red Flag Law
From The Truth About Guns:
Now Colorado has enacted one of the most sweeping “red flag†laws in the country (that allows virtually anyone — not just relatives and those close to a target — to initiate a confiscation order against anyone who poses a “significant riskâ€).
In response, a recall effort has been initiated against Rep. Tom Sullivan of Aurora who sponsored the bill.
TX Gov. Protects Tenants’ Civil Rights
From The Truth About Guns:
The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) applauded Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday for signing NRA-backed legislation that protects tenants’ rights by prohibiting “no firearms†clauses in residential leases.
Towns Becoming Gun Sanctuaries
From Bearing Arms:
Foster is the fourth Rhode Island town, including Burrillville, Hopkinton and West Greenwich, to became Second Amendment sanctuary towns in response to Gov. Gina Raimondo’s proposal for stricter state gun laws. Raimondo bills propose a ban on assault-style weapons, a limit on the number of bullets allowed in a clip, and prohibiting guns from school ground unless carried by a police officer.
Gun Control Hurts Poor Minorities Most
From Fox News:
The regulations Harris and Booker are proposing would hit low-income Americans – many of whom live in high-crime neighborhoods – particularly hard, because the regulations would effectively prevent them from owning guns for protection by making gun ownership more expensive. Black Americans would be disproportionately affected because of their disproportionately high poverty rate.
Gun Rights Groups File Brief In NYC Gun Case
From The Truth About Guns:
The Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms have been joined by four other rights groups in an amicus curiae brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of a challenge to New York City’s restrictive handgun law that prohibits handguns licensed in the city to be taken outside the home.
