Mayor Adds Gun Control To Coronavirus Bill
From The Daily Caller:
Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen’s declaration of emergency came on Friday and is related to the coronavirus, which has caused many states to declare emergencies as the virus continues to spread. The mayor’s executive order gives Frank Feinen “extraordinary powers,†including the ban of the sale of firearms and ammunition, among others restrictions including a ban on the sale of alcohol, and the sale or giving away of gasoline or other liquid flammable or combustible products, according to Edgar County Watchdogs, a local government accountability nonprofit.
Illinois Non Resident Carry Permit Law Challenged
From The Truth About Guns:
Eighteen state attorneys general have joined in an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court supporting a Second Amendment Foundation petition for writ of certiorari seeking high court review in the case of Culp v. Raoul, which challenges the refusal by Illinois to take applications from non-residents for an Illinois carry license.
Woman Shot Ex In Self Defense In Jail; Ex Out On Bail
From Bearing Arms:
A woman in Decatur, Illinois who shot her ex in self-defense after he attacked her in her vehicle is now behind bars on $75,000 bond, while her abuser is already back out on the streets.
According to the Herald-Review newspaper, police say the woman was defending herself when she fired the shot from her legally owned firearm, but because she doesn’t have a concealed carry license, she’s now facing a felony charge.
Liberals Angered By Conservative Non-compliance
From The Washington Times:
Some on the left are angry, if not apoplectic, that conservatives are turning the tables on them and co-opting one of their own tactics against liberal policies. But turnabout, as they say, is fair play: Self-styled “progressives,†it seems, aren’t the only ones who can unilaterally decide which laws they will or will not enforce and/or comply with.
Good Samaritan May Face Gun Charges In Chicago
From CWB Chicago:
A 29-year-old man told police the offender lunged at him as he sat on a Blue Line train minutes earlier. The offender began punching the victim in the head and face, then took unspecified property from the man before exiting the train car as it stopped at LaSalle, police said.
A private citizen intercepted the offender on the platform and held him at gunpoint until police arrived, a source confirmed.
SAF To Sue Illinois For Slow Walking CCL Permits
From The Second Amendment Foundation:
BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation today revealed that it is considering legal action to force authorities in the State of Illinois to speed up the application and renewal process for concealed carry licenses, following a report by WMAQ in Chicago about the length of time citizens must wait for their licenses.
“A right delayed is a right denied,†said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “We are considering taking legal to end this abuse of process.â€
Dealers Sue Illinois Over Licensing Law
From The Truth About Gun:
This week, a group of dealers and the Illinois State Rifle Association brought suit against the state, arguing that the new law imposes an unfair and discriminatory financial burden on business owners. The governor’s office defends the proposal on the grounds that it makes the state safer, invoking terms such as “commonsense.â€
Gun Controller Mayor Blames Indiana For Guns In Chicago
From Bearing Arms:
“The fact that you can cross the border, go into Indiana and purchase military-grade weapons at any number with no background check is a terrible thing, not only for a city but look at the devastation that gun violence is wreaking every single day in our community.â€
Will Small Shops Survive Illinois Gun Control?
From Bearing Arms:
A new gun control law aimed squarely at gun shops in the state of Illinois takes effect today. The Firearms Dealer License Certification Act requires all gun stores across the state to be licensed by the Illinois State Police as well as the federal government, and in order to get that state license firearm retailers have to navigate a maze of red tape and comply with onerous new restrictions. In some cases, gun shops are shutting down rather than try to meet the new requirements, and other stores are ditching gun and ammo sales completely.
Chicago Dem Calls For More Gun Permits
From The Truth About Guns:
LaShawn Ford has served as an Illinois State Representative since 2007. Like his fellow Chicago Democrat General Assembly members, he has been a fairly consistent vote against gun rights since, well, forever.
But he recently appeared on radio station WLS-AM encouraging residents to arm themselves and get their carry licenses.
Gun Shop Leaving Illinois For Indiana
From Guns.com:
Lost Creek Trading Post in Marshall, Illinois late last month said they had been told by local officials they had until June 17 to apply for a newly-mandated state-issued license and be certified by July 17. The requirements include a $1,500 fee and a host of new training and regulatory guidelines. Rather than try to jump through the hoops, Lost Creek is pulling stumps for a location across the state lines in Indiana.
Illinois Introduces Bill To Fingerprint Anyone Who Wants To TOUCH A Gun
From The Truth About Guns:
The Illinois House Wednesday passed a bill to require the submission of fingerprints, along with higher fees in order to own, shoot or even handle a firearm or ammunition. Kathleen Willis’ Amendments to SB-1966 would also end private firearm transfers and even require immediate family members gifted a firearm to report themselves to the Illinois State Police under penalty of a felony.
The bill passed solely with Democrat votes, Democrats who claim to fight for poor, inner-city minorities. At least at election time. SB-1966, with its increased fees, has a guaranteed disparate impact upon poor people of color within the Land of Lincoln.
Anti-gunner: Make Gun Owners Pay To Exercise Gun Rights
From Newsday:
The ISRA is livid that everyone who applies for a new FOID card or renews one would have to be fingerprinted. The cost of this would be “astronomical, up to $250.†In addition, the ISRA says, applicants would have to pay for their own background check, costing another $100 or more.
But who says that the people who choose to own firearms shouldn’t have to go into their pocketbooks every now and then? Gun owners have no problem shelling out $600 for the latest Smith & Wesson. But if you ask them to pay $10 — the current cost of a FOID card — they go ballistic. They are perfectly satisfied allowing taxpayers who would never own a gun to supplement the administrative costs for their freedom.
When Laws Fail, Create More Laws
From The Truth About Guns:
Whenever the massive, expensive, inefficient, rights-impinging jobs programs that operate this country’s gun control bureaucracies fail, the solution is always to enact still more restrictions on law-abiding gun owners. So the Illinois State Police’s failure in issuing the Aurora shooter (a felon) a FOID card now means the rest of the state’s gun owners will have even more hurdles to jump in order to keep and bear arms. Same as it ever was.
Chicago Gun Club
Posted by Brian in News, Threat Watch on 6/Nov/2018 07:00
From Guns.com:
“The goal of the 761st is we want to change the perception of the black gun owner within the black community,†Amoah said and explained the club serves as a meeting place for African Americans to share knowledge about firearms, firearms law, and issues relevant to the community.
