Making Women Equal

From New Hampshire Union-Leader:

Senate Bill 116 (which has cleared the Senate and moves on to the House) would allow all legal gun owners to carry concealed without first applying for permission. This fully baked idea (it is the longstanding policy of Vermont, hardly a den of gun violence) would grant women an extra degree of protection against both abusers and street criminals. The question for opponents should be: Why do you want to keep women down?

Police Challenge ATF in Bullet Ban

From The Washington Examiner:

“Any ammunition is of concern to police in the wrong hands, but this specific round has historically not posed a law enforcement problem,” said James Pasco, executive director of the Washington office of the Fraternal Order of Police, the world’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers, with more than 325,000 members.

He told Secrets that the round used mostly for target practice “is not typically used against law enforcement.”

What Europeans Don’t Understand About Americans

From The Fiscal Times:

What foreigners should understand is that this is part of our culture, not a lack of progress toward some world norm. Americans own 88 guns per 100 people, but that doesn’t mean ownership is evenly spread. For many, especially in rural parts of the country, owning and using guns is just a completely integrated part of life, like using household appliances.

Silent Circle Raises $50 Million

From ArsTechnica:

Terms of the buyout deal with Spanish smartphone maker Geeksphone, the phone’s hardware manufacturer, were not disclosed. Silent Circle said Thursday that it has raised $50 million and plans on showing off an encrypted “enterprise privacy ecosystem” at World Mobile Congress next week. A BlackPhone tablet is on the way, too.

“Silent Circle has brought tremendous disruption to the mobile industry and created an integrated suite of secure enterprise communication products that are challenging the status quo,” Mike Janke, cofounder and chairman of the Silent Circle board, said in a statement. “This first stage of growth has enabled us to raise approximately $50M to accelerate our continued rapid expansion and fuel our second stage of growth.”

8 Checks on Your New Gun

From American Rifleman:

In pursuing both personal and professional shooting endeavors over the last several years, I’ve prepared a fair number of new and used firearms for first-time trips to the shooting range. Experience has taught me that one can never assume a gun is ready to shoot until it has been thoroughly checked out. While some gun problems will not present themselves until the gun is fired, many potential issues can be resolved or avoided if they are identified before the trigger is pressed. Here are a few important steps to take before loading a new gun, or a used gun you have never fired:

Kansas Trying to Attract Firearm Manufacturers

From Kansas.com:

Gov. Sam Brownback hopes that an increasingly firearm-friendly environment helps draw gun makers and jobs to the state.

During the last 18 months, the Brownback administration has been trying to lure gun makers to Kansas, urged on by conservative lawmakers who think that easing gun restrictions could make the state more attractive to manufacturers under legislative assault elsewhere.

The Ramifications of the Swap For Bowe Bergdahl

From The Daily Caller:

Carl Mueller told NBC in an interview that aired Monday that he and his wife thought they could win his daughter’s freedom with a $6.2 million ransom payment, although he acknowledged the Arizona family faced a daunting task in raising that much money. But when the White House agreed last year to trade Bergdahl, who had been held for five years by the Taliban and Haqqani network, the family believes the price for their daughter went up.

“That made the whole situation worse,” Kayla Mueller’s brother, Eric, told the network. “Because that’s when the demands got greater. They got larger. They realized that they had something. They realized that, ‘Well, if they’re gonna let five people go for one person, why won’t they do this? Or why won’t they do that?’”

European Gun Laws Failed To Prevent Terrorists From Getting Them

From Washington Post:

The problem has been rendered vividly in recent weeks by a pair of deadly assaults that each paralyzed a European capital. In Paris and Copenhagen, the attacks were carried out by former small-time criminals turned violent extremists who obtained military-grade illicit weapons with apparent ease.

In contrast with the free-firing United States, Europe is generally seen as a haven from serious gun violence. Here in Denmark, handguns and semiautomatic rifles are all but banned. Hunting rifles are legally available only to those with squeaky-clean backgrounds who have passed a rigorous exam covering everything from gun safety to the mating habits of Denmark’s wildlife.

Again: DHS Warns of “Right-wing” Terrorism

From CNN:

A new intelligence assessment, circulated by the Department of Homeland Security this month and reviewed by CNN, focuses on the domestic terror threat from right-wing sovereign citizen extremists and comes as the Obama administration holds a White House conference to focus efforts to fight violent extremism.

This administration continues to hope for an attack by “right-winger” and “individualists” while ignoring Muslim extremists who say exactly what they are going to do. It’s good to know our government has their priorities straight.
