NRA Board Member Comes Out Against 80% Guns
From The Truth About Guns:
…The head of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association said the sale of ghost guns is a growing problem.
“These ’80 percent’ guns are providing a way for prohibited people to buy a firearm,†Tom King of the NYSRPA said, referring to people who don’t have a gun permit or are otherwise prohibited from possessing a gun.
Dems Who Criticize Beto On Confiscation Want Equally Stupid Ban
From Reason:
Beto O’Rourke is taking flak from other Democratic presidential contenders for supporting mass confiscation of military-style rifles, a proposal several of them view as an impractical campaign gimmick. Although they are right about that, all the Democratic candidates are guilty of magical thinking on this issue, because they support an “assault weapon” ban that cannot reasonably be expected to have a measurable impact on gun violence.
Retired Cop Has Guns Confiscated For Misheard Comment
From Gun Dynamics:
Stephen Nichols says he was talking with a friend at a local restaurant on Martha’s Vineyard when the subject of the local school resource officer came up. Nichols was upset that the officer, in his opinion, was “leaving his post†by going to get coffee at a nearby convenience shop instead of remaining on campus to protect students, and said that somebody could “shoot up the school†in the officer’s absence. Based on nothing more than that simple remark, Nichols’ life was turned upside down and the Tisbury police have a lot of questions to answer.
Lawmakers Want Tax Money To Fund Gun Technology
From Guns.com:
A group of House Democrats last week introduced a bill that would set aside Department of Justice funds to research so-called “smart guns.â€
The aim of “The Advancing Gun Safety Technology Act†is to back “private-sector commercialization of gun-safety technology†through a $10 million pilot program in 2021 funded through DOJ. Companies who have an initial product design and a “demonstrable commitment to reducing unintentional or unauthorized shootings†would be eligible to apply for a grant through the program.
Freedom To Travel, But Not With Guns
From Bearing Arms:
You can travel from wherever you live in the United States to wherever you want in the United States, and your freedom of speech still exists, along with your right to peaceably assemble, petition the government, be secure in your person and property, or have a jury trial if you’re arrested. You take your rights with you no matter where you go, with one very big exception. Your Second Amendment rights typically end at the state line where you live. Cross that border, and your right becomes a privilege, or maybe even a crime.
“Gun-Free” Nations
From The Washington Post:
There are lots of means to perpetrate mass murder: with poison gas, with bombs, by running people over with trucks, working them to death in slave labor camps, or even by hacking them with machetes, as in Rwanda. However, mass shootings have been among the most common methods of mass murder around the world for more than a century. Even when victims are killed by other means, such as deliberate starvation or gas chambers, a government monopoly of arms is essential for governments being able to prevent the victims from resisting.
Red Flag Laws Hurting Innocents
From Reason:
One thing is certain: Taking away people’s guns based on predictions of what they might do with them raises thorny due process concerns. That’s especially true with laws like Maryland’s, which authorize broad categories of people to seek ERPOs based on scant evidence and effectively put the burden on gun owners to demonstrate that they don’t pose a threat to themselves or others. While the benefits of these laws are mostly speculative, they inevitably deprive law-abiding people of the constitutional right to armed self-defense, even when it is quite unlikely that they would use guns to hurt themselves or anyone else.
National African American Gun Association
From WSVN:
David Lozandier, gun owner: “What I got out of it is understanding the importance of being a legal gun owner, especially a black legal gun owner at that.â€
With more and more members joining, NAAGA now wants to push into politics. Its leaders hope the group will eventually have the same power and influence as the NRA.
Travis Campbell: “We can’t sit back and expect someone else to represent us better than we can represent ourselves.â€
Court Dismisses Case Against Gun Manufacturers
From NSSF:
“This decision by the federal judge to dismiss with prejudice this frivolous case is pleasing, if not unexpected,†said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs and General Counsel. “These are lawful and federally-regulated AR-15 modern sporting rifle manufacturers that make semiautomatic rifles for lawful purposes. The judge was absolutely correct to assert that the proper venue to establish public firearms policy is through the legislature and not the courts.â€
Dick’s Destroys $5 Million Of Its Own Inventory
From Reason:
Dick’s Sporting Goods thinks it has found a solution to gun violence: destroying the company’s own inventory.
In an interview with CBS on October 6, CEO Edward Stack revealed that Dick’s had destroyed $5 million worth of “assault-style weapons” following the company’s 2018 decision to remove them from store shelves.
Police Take Guns From Theft Victim
From Bearing Arms:
Because of the circumstances of the theft, police went into the home and took the guns, a semiautomatic Glock pistol, another handgun and a semi-automatic AR-15.
Under a new law that went into effect Oct. 1, Jerome was charged with a misdemeanor count of unsafe storage of a gun in a motor vehicle in addition to the reckless endangerment charge. The new law makes it a crime to store a gun in a locked car if it is not also put into a safe, locked in the glove box or stored in the car’s trunk.
Supreme Court To Hear NY Gun Case
From The Truth About Guns:
The Second Amendment Foundation today cheered the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to move forward with a case that challenges a New York City gun law that was so restrictive the city amended it, and then tried to get the high court to dismiss the case.
“We’re delighted that the Supreme Court will move this important case forward,†said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “The Second Amendment Foundation has filed an amicus brief in support of overturning this egregious attempt to infringe on the right to keep and bear arms. We are confident that the high court will ultimately rule in favor of Second Amendment rights.â€
Op-Ed Thinks More Freedom Is A Step Backward
From Gainesville.com:
The bill would also reverses a law passed in the wake of the deadly Parkland shooting — allowing those under 21 to legally purchase weapons again.
Finally, perhaps the most dangerous proposal: that of what’s called “reciprocity.†It would require Florida to recognize concealed weapons licenses and prerogatives from all other states, including those with stauncher or looser requirements.
Red Flags and Due Process
From American Thinker:
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) promised that under his bill, to get a federal grant, the state red flag laws would have to provide “due process.”  Similarly, President Trump has sought to assure the public that any red flag legislation will provide for “rapid due process.”  When questioned, most congressional Republicans say they will support police seizing guns only if rigorous due process is provided.  Don’t buy it.  Red flag laws violate the Second Amendment, and “due process” is not a magic wand to be waved to make the infringement go away.
Gun Confiscation Would Be Tragic
From The Washington Examiner:
There are no official statistics on how many guns Americans own, but the Small Arms Survey is the most widely recognized estimate of civilian, police, and military gun ownership in the world. Its most recent estimate puts civilian-owned firearms in America at about 400 million. That’s far more than in any other country in the world. There are more guns here than there are people. Civilians own 100 times as many guns as the military. Americans own so many guns it amounts to three times all the world’s militaries combined.
