Bilbray: Rewarding Lawbreaking Sends the Wrong Message
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 28/Sep/2010 21:44
Rep. Brian Bilbray, the Chair of the House Immigration Caucus, is one of the best spokesmen for the cause of immigration sanity because he grasps the psychology of the issue to wannabes.
Bilbray understands that as long as Washington rewards the behavior of illegal immigration, the foreigners will continue to come any way they can. Whenever news arrives in rural Mexican villages that another amnesty is proposed, hope is further renewed that America is still not serious about border and workplace enforcement, even during the worst jobs depression since the 1930s.
Rasmussen Poll: Voters Think Government Supports Illegal Immigration

“An increasing percentage of voters now believe that Washington acts in support of open borders and unlawful entrance of foreigners, in comparison with polling last fall.
Most Voters Say Government Encourages Illegal Immigration Rasmussen Reports, September 27, 2010
While the headlines have cooled a bit in recent weeks, voters feel more strongly than ever that the federal government is encouraging illegal immigration and that states like Arizona have the answer to the problem.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 62% of Likely U.S. Voters believe the policies and practices of the federal government encourage people to enter the United States illegally, up six points from October of last year.
Georgia: Poll results show most in state want illegals barred from public colleges
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 20/Sep/2010 22:21
“Two-thirds of Georgians want to bar illegal immigrants from attending the University of Georgia and other public colleges, even if they pay out-of-state tuition, according to results from a recent poll.
Sixty-seven percent of people polled last week by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research for the Georgia Newspaper Partnership favor a law requiring proof of legal residency to attend a Georgia college or university, while 22 percent opposed such a law and 11 percent were undecided.
“We have a finite amount of classroom seats,†King said. “It’s always been a mystery to me for seats to go to people who are deportable at any time and cannot work upon graduation when unemployment is 10 percent.â€
Illegal immigrants take spots that rightly belong to Georgians, Deal spokesman Brian Robinson said.

Mall management calls pro-Arizona shirts offensive

Immigration T-Shirt Spat at Maryland Mall
By P.J. ORVETTI
“Maryland is in the midst of a debate over whether to follow Arizona in adopting a strict new law on illegal immigration. One thing that shouldn’t be up for debate is whether it is OK to express an opinion about whether such a law would be a good idea.
But the management of Francis Scott Key Mall in Frederick isn’t so sure. According to the Frederick News-Post, mall owner Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust has asked the owner of the Antietam Gallery custom framing gallery to stop selling “Maryland Stands With Arizona†T-shirts out of his shop.
Immigration is a complex issue. Many come to the United States illegally out of desperation, risking a journey that is fatal for some, and taking the least desirable jobs at the lowest pay if they make it.
But nations have the right and the obligation to set limits on immigration — those of Mexico are much harsher than those of the U.S. — and those who have come to the U.S. through legal means are right to be angry by the millions who broke the law to get here.
What is not a complex issue is whether we have a right to talk about it. The mall managers and others who would take offense at Kehoe’s shirts may not like restricting entry into the U.S., but they have a very odd idea about what that same country is all about.
“It’s not about the T-shirt,†Kehoe told the News-Post. “It’s about people being victimized by political correctness and people feeling they are not able to speak the truth about things.â€
In Mexico, Central American Immigrants are a business worth $3 billion dollars per year
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 3/Sep/2010 18:25
“Immigrants are a business worth $3 billion dollars per year, which is divided up amongst the criminal cartels and corrupt police forces, both in the US and in Mexico. To cross to the other side they pay between $4,000 and $15,000 dollars.
Often, it is only the principle of martyrdom that drives the “American dream,” which has already been achieved by (in addition to tens of millions of Mexicans) a million Hondurans, two million Salvadorans, and three million Guatemalans who send about $10 billion dollars in cash remittances to their families in their countries of origin every year.
Witch Hunt in Arizona?
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 2/Sep/2010 19:10
PHOENIX – The Justice Department sued the nation’s self-proclaimed “toughest sheriff” on Thursday, calling Joe Arpaio’s defiance of an investigation into his office’s alleged discrimination against Hispanics “unprecedented.”
It’s the first time in decades a lawman has refused to cooperate in one of the agency’s probes, the department said.
“I think they know we have not been racial profiling, so what’s the next step — camouflage the situation, go the courts, and make it look like I’m not cooperating,” Arpaio said Thursday.
Arpaio said he provided “hundreds of thousands” of reports but hasn’t turned over others because the department’s request was too broad.
Arizona Republican Sen. Russell Pearce, author of the new Arizona law, called the Justice Department’s actions against Arpaio a “witch hunt.”
“This is the game that’s played,” he said. “They couldn’t find any violations … that’s why they’re very vague about what they want. It doesn’t take a very high IQ to figure out what’s going on with these folks.”
Arrizona Poll: 81% approved of requiring people to produce documents to prove they’re legally in US.

“PHOENIX — A poll released Wednesday found that an overwhelming majority of Arizona voters support the types of provisions that are at the heart of a national debate involving the state’s immigration law.
The survey conducted on behalf of Arizona State University’s Morrison Institute for Public Policy found 81 percent of registered voters approved of requiring people to produce documents that show they’re in the country legally.
It found that 74 percent believe police should be allowed to detain anyone who’s unable to verify their legal immigration status, and 68 percent say police should be allowed to question anyone suspected of being in the country illegally.”

Border Patrol Agents arrested 2,788 from October 2005 through last September – on the Canadian Border.
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 30/Aug/2010 22:32
ROCHESTER — “The Lake Shore Limited runs between Chicago and New York City without crossing the Canadian border. But when it stops at Amtrak stations in western New York State, armed Border Patrol agents routinely board the train, question passengers about their citizenship and take away noncitizens who cannot produce satisfactory immigration papers.
“Are you a U.S. citizen?†agents asked one recent morning, moving through a Rochester-bound train full of dozing passengers at a station outside Buffalo. “What country were you born in?â€
When the answer came back, “the U.S.,†they moved on. But Ruth Fernandez, 60, a naturalized citizen born in Ecuador, was asked for identification. And though she was only traveling home to New York City from her sister’s in Ohio, she had made sure to carry her American passport. On earlier trips, she said, agents had photographed her, and taken away a nervous Hispanic man.”

National Guard troops prepare to deploy along Arizona border
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 27/Aug/2010 21:06
On Monday, the initial deployment of National Guard troops will begin arriving along the porous Arizona border separating the United States and northern Mexico. With border violence on the rise, area residents await troop arrival with measured optimism.
National Guard troops will begin arriving along the Arizona side of the border in small groups and without fanfare. It is anticipated that over five hundred troops will be deployed to the region by the end of September.
Their effectiveness however, is hard to predict as the troops, although armed, will only operate as observers, lacking authority to make arrests themselves.

Still, the extra boots on the ground are expected to create an additional deterrent for would be smugglers and others who may attempt to cross the border illegally. Some experts however, believe the drug cartels will simply move their operations elsewhere, such as southern Texas, which is already experiencing an increase in drug related violent crimes.
Does Peurto Rico hold the key to the GOP’s immigration dilemma?
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 20/Aug/2010 01:46
The GOP wants to halt illegal immigration, seal the southern border – but can’t afford to alienate a nation of Hispanic voters.
WASHINGTON — A Republican governor — a very Republican governor — has an idea for solving one of his party’s conundrums. The party should listen to Luis Fortuno, the Reaganite who resides in Puerto Rico’s executive mansion.
Conservatives need a strategy for addressing the immigration issue without alienating America’s largest and most rapidly growing minority. Conservatives believe the southern border must be secured before there can be “comprehensive” immigration reform that resolves the status of the 11 million illegal immigrants. But this policy risks making Republicans seem hostile to Hispanics.
Fortuno wants Republicans to couple insistence on border enforcement with support for Puerto Rican statehood. This, he says, would resonate deeply among Hispanics nationwide. His premise is that many factors — particularly, the Telemundo and Univision television channels — have created a common consciousness among Hispanics in America.
Muslim No-Go areas in Europe
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 12/Aug/2010 18:36
“Young Muslims continue their violent behavior across Europe. However the media appear shy about saying directly that significant numbers of Muslim immigrants are barbaric thugs, pursuing sharia through rioting and anarchy.
Vlad Tepes blog posted a TV news report from Berlin, where police are struggling to maintain order in certain areas with high levels of diversity. The talking head burbled through a disconnected introduction comparing American ghetto crime to current civil unrest in Germany where police cannot easily enter some immigrant neighborhoods. Interestingly, “no-go area†is the phrase used in German.
“There were always major problems with Arab youth,†reported one officer.
Another described miscreants who declared, “This is mine, this is our area. German police have nothing at all to decide here. Go away already, we’ll deal with things between us.†(Muslims don’t recognize German law because they want a worldwide caliphate ruled by sharia.)
Given the Europe’s disastrous experience with Muslim immigration, a prudent nation would realize the danger of importing historic enemies and end the practice. Wouldn’t it?”

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio: report of a $1 million bounty on his head
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News, Threat Watch on 2/Aug/2010 20:06
“PHOENIX — A sheriff in Arizona known for his anti-immigration policies says his office is investigating a report of a $1 million bounty on his head.
A spokeswoman for Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says the report was relayed by the FBI and by a caller who told Fox affiliate KSAZ-TV in Phoenix that the threat was from a Mexican drug cartel. Phoenix is the seat of Maricopa County.
Lisa Allen says it wasn’t known whether the threat actually came from a drug cartel but authorities believe it was made using a disposable cell phone in Mexico.
Arpaio says it’s not unusual for him to receive death threats as sheriff and an outspoken advocate of immigration enforcement.”

Virginia Politician Wants Tougher Illegal Immigration Laws
Posted by Jack Sinclair in Law, News on 30/Jul/2010 18:06
“Corey Stewart, chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, is proposing model legislation for Virginia legislators to consider based on the new Arizona immigration law.“It will require officers to check immigration status of any person who is detained for any reason whatsoever if there is reasonable suspicion that the person is an illegal immigrant, but it’s important to note that the person must be lawfully stopped.”
Sarkozy wants to revoke the French citizenship of immigrants who target police
Posted by Jack Sinclair in News on 30/Jul/2010 17:02
PARIS — President Nicolas Sarkozy said Friday that he wants to revoke the French citizenship of immigrants who put the lives of police officers in danger as part of a “national war” on delinquency.
“French nationality should be earned. One must know how to be worthy of it,” the president said. French nationality should be revoked “from any person of foreign origin who voluntarily threatens the life of a police officer” or other public authority, he said.”
