Cabela’s Sued For Legal Ammunition Sale

From The Truth About Guns:

Federal law states that people can’t be sued for engaging in lawful trade of guns and ammo. Oh, if someone breaks the law or if the products are faulty, that’s different, but just for engaging in lawful trade? Nope.

Of course, that doesn’t stop lawsuits from happening. Usually, they’re thrown out, but an anti-gun court decision against Remington didn’t just hurt the company, it’s likely to hurt the entire gun industry as now the vultures are out and about. Since a judge ruled that the lawsuit against Remington could continue, they’re hoping other judges will follow suit.

From Bearing Arms:

In recent months the Pacific Northwest has been ground zero for the movement, and Second Amendment activists in Oregon were able to put Second Amendment Sanctuary ordinances on the ballot in four Oregon counties. The ordinances won the approval of voters this week in Columbia and Umatilla counties, while the ballot measure was rejected in Clatsop and Coos counties (where local officials had campaigned against the proposal).

YouTuber Attacked For Pro Gun Rights Views

From Bearing Arms:

Do you want to know why we’re so divided as a nation and that’s not going to change anytime soon? It’s because you can’t have a life separate from your politics. Your political beliefs have to become your entire being, and as such, if someone finds out you hold the wrong opinions, that’s just too much and they can’t support you.
At the same time, they won’t allow people to keep their beliefs private. They’ll hound celebrities or influencers until they can learn about their political beliefs, all the while knowing that unless they’re the right beliefs, the mob will come.

California AG Sues ATF Over 80% Firearms

From Courthouse News:

Shearer, who is co-counsel in the lawsuit, said state gun laws have been undermined by the ATF’s refusal to treat the parts used to build homemade guns as firearms. This allows “unscrupulous” DIY firearm sellers to flood the gun market.
“The ATF has specifically exempted them from the federal definition of a firearm, meaning federal gun laws don’t apply to them. As a result, people can order and build these guns without passing background check or even verifying their age,” she said. “This has opened the biggest loophole you can imagine in our federal and state gun laws.”

Left Blames Right For Riots

From The Truth About Guns:

The presence of armed militia groups – even under the pretense of maintaining order and protecting the community – is seen as a tool of intimidation and a way to chill free speech. It also encourages racial justice protesters and other demonstrators to bring their own weapons to already-tense events.

SCOTUS Candidate’s Views On Guns

From The Truth About Guns:

Barrett’s fondness for original texts was on display in a 2019 dissent in a gun-rights case in which she argued a person convicted of a nonviolent felony shouldn’t be automatically barred from owning a gun. All but a few pages of her 37-page dissent were devoted to the history of gun rules for convicted criminals in the 18th and 19th centuries.

SCOTUS Vacancy Puts 2A Front and Center in Election

From Ammoland:

Before last Friday, it was urgent for every gun owner in the country to vote in the November election, and now with the death of Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, it is critical for the survival of the Second Amendment to retain the Republican majority in the U.S. Senate and for Donald Trump to be elected to a second term, many in the gun rights community are saying today.

From Reuters:

Some worry that U.S. democracy will suffer if guns intimidate would-be protesters from voicing their opinion.
The gun culture and the exercise of free speech and assembly are “all competing in the same space,” said Timothy Zick, a law professor at the College of William & Mary who studies armed protests.

Dems Attack Gun Rights When Citizens Need Them Most

From NBC News:

As Americans, our constitutional rights and individual liberties are not just a source of patriotic pride but the lifeblood of our democracy. The founders knew that the right of citizens to bear arms was essential to the preservation of democracy and liberty. The Second Amendment ensures that Americans can protect themselves, their families and their businesses, especially when the government is unwilling or unable to do so. And many Americans are indeed now choosing to exercise their Second Amendment rights; a national indicator for gun sales is at an all-time high.

Gun Banners: What Happens If We Destroy The NRA?

From Slate:

If James succeeds, the court will direct her to find other groups who could take control of the NRA’s infrastructure, which could restart a national gun rights advocacy group. She would be bound by law to solely consider whether successor groups share the NRA’s values and are free from any taint of corruption. “The groups would have to be absolutely squeaky clean, but they could have really aggressive Second Amendment politics,” West said.
Though the NRA has defined the national gun rights movement for decades, it is by no means the only player on the scene. Rivals have grown in prominence in recent years. And many of the lesser-known groups are in fact much more extreme in their pro-gun stances, and closer to the far-right fringe.

Magazine Confiscation Divides Circuit Courts

From Reason:

California and New Jersey have enacted laws to confiscate firearms magazines holding more than 10 rounds. On Aug. 14, a 2-1 panel of the Ninth Circuit ruled California’s confiscation unconstitutional, in Duncan v. Becerra. The Third Circuit, Sept. 1, upheld by 2-1 confiscation in New Jersey in Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs Inc v. Attorney General New Jersey (NJ Rifle II). In combination, Duncan and NJ Rifle II cases provide a good view of the state of the Second Amendment argument today.
