Gun Control Toolkit Leaked

From Ammoland:

“This document,” noted SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, “raises alarms because there’s a lot in it about taking someone’s guns, but only two paragraphs about returning firearms to their rightful owner.”

How Dangerous Are AR-15s?

From FEE:

If we take the time to look at the raw data provided by the FBI, we find that all rifles, not just “assault-style rifles,” constitute on average 340 homicides per year from 2007 through 2017 (see Figure 1.). When we adjust these numbers to take under-reporting into account, that number rises to an average of 439 per year.

In any given year, for every person murdered with a rifle, there are 15 murdered with handguns, 1.7 with hands or fists, and 1.2 with blunt instruments. In fact, homicides with any sort of rifle represent a mere 3.2 percent of all homicides on average over the past decade.

The Guardian Freaks Out Over Virginia Protests

From The Guardian:

But the pledge sparked a grassroots pro-gun movement whose size and intensity has surprised even longtime activists. In dozens of towns and counties, pro-gun Virginians have flooded local government meetings to oppose the new bills and to demand that their lawmakers pass “second amendment sanctuary” resolutions, which promise that local governments will not enforce state gun laws they see as unconstitutional.

Cheers Erupt In Virginia When Gun Control Fails

From Townhall:

In a major defeat for Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and fellow Democrats in the commonwealth, the Virginia Senate Judiciary Committee voted to not move forward with HB961, the “assault weapons” ban and magazine confiscation bill, on Monday for the rest of the year.

When the bill failed to pass, cheers erupted and some, including law enforcement officers, stood up in celebration. Virginia Delegate Mark Levine (D), who helped passed the bill in the House, and his colleagues in the front row were seen to be very disappointed.

Protests Save Second Amendment In Virginia

From Bearing Arms:

An estimated 22,000 of them descended on Richmond, VA on Lobby Day in an effort to have their collective voices heard. Some in attendance balk at the estimate, saying at least 30,000 attended.

It’s not surprising that some lawmakers looked at that and recognized that if they value their political careers, they’d best take it easy on the gun control. While they might get away with something like a universal background check–polling suggests they might, though support for such measures shifts after the mechanics of the bills become public–so-called assault weapon bans are often a bridge too far.

VA Gun Ban Bill Pushed To 2021

From NRA-ILA:

Thanks to Second Amendment supporters around the Commonwealth ceaselessly voicing their opposition to a sweeping gun ban, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted 10-5 to reject House Bill 961 on February 17th. Bloomberg’s House majority in the General Assembly is not going to deliver their most coveted agenda item to their billionaire master.

California Challenged On “Common” Firearms

From Reason:

Under the latest definition from California, all centerfire semiautomatic rifles are prohibited if they:
Are on a list that bans guns by make and model, OR
Have a fixed (nondetachable) magazine over 10 rounds, OR
Use detachable magazines, and have one of the following features: a pistol grip
that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon; a forward pistol grip; a thumbhole stock; a folding or telescoping stock; or a “flash suppressor.”

Gun Rights Movement Continues Undeterred

From The Washington Examiner:

Rather than an attack on democracy, sanctuary counties are a proper exercise of local democracy. The populations of 86 of Virginia’s 95 counties are in an uproar over the gun control bills, with some members of law enforcement promising to deputize citizens to circumvent the gun control measures. (This will only be effective, however, if the gun control laws have built-in exemptions for law enforcement.)

VA Law Could Ban Gun Parts

From Ammoland:

This passage could potentially ban parts used to repair broken rifles. Banning the transfer of these rifles to anyone other than the government would mean once the rifle breaks, it is useless. If the owner repairs their gun or sells it, they are committing a felony.
Gun rights groups from around the country expressed concern about the passage of HB 961 out of the committee. One of these groups is Gun Owners of America that has been fighting hard alongside VCDL in the Commonwealth to defeat the attack on gun rights. Senior Vice President, Erich Pratt, is dismayed the bill has gotten as far as it has.

Billionaire Wants To Take Your Guns And Is Spending Millions To Do It

From National Review:

Bloomberg has, in a just a few months of running for presidency, spent around $200 million in the primary — approximately $194 million more than the NRA spends on an average year in lobbying Congress and approximately $170 million more than the NRA spent on the entire 2016 election.
The $11 million Bloomberg reportedly spent on his Super Bowl is $11 million more than the notorious “gun lobby” has spent on national television advertising, probably over the past decade, if not forever.
That doesn’t even account for the numerous political entities Bloomberg funds, such as “Everytown for Gun Safety,” the gun-control group he co-founded, which announced recently that it is going to spend $60 million on the 2020 elections — or more than the NRA has ever spent in any election cycle ever.

Ignorance No Match For Gun Banners’ Confidence

From The Federalist:

Kerry was obviously referring to the AR-15, again conflating the semiautomatic rifle with the military’s M16 and M4 rifles, which are automatic. He also clearly confused magazines with clips.
All the while, though, Kerry confirmed the long-held beliefs that the only thing he and the candidates he supports want to do with firearms are banning, outlawing, restricting, and denying the ability of law-abiding gun owners to buy the firearms they choose. He warned if voters don’t turn out for Biden, those “AR-16s” and “clips” could make a comeback.

New Gun Organization Promotes Responsibility

From The Truth About Guns:

The goal, they say, is for firearms owners to reclaim the narrative. If gun owners are going to be against government regulation and interference with their Second Amendment rights, they need to be for something…for taking positive steps to increase the safety and responsibility of gun owners as a group.
They say CGRR’s goal is to promote non-legislative, non-prohibitionist, non-regulatory, non-confiscatory solutions to promote responsible gun ownership and practices. Actions designed to make real differences in gun safety, saving lives and preventing tragedies.

Eighteen state attorneys general have joined in an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court supporting a Second Amendment Foundation petition for writ of certiorari seeking high court review in the case of Culp v. Raoul, which challenges the refusal by Illinois to take applications from non-residents for an Illinois carry license.
