Most conventional Western military doctrine is built upon concepts of modern warfare that were articulated by theorists such as Carl von Clausewitz, Antoine-Henri Jomini and Napoleon Bonaparte. The basic concept behind the rapid war doctrine is to fix and engage the enemy in decisive battles that destroy its ability to wage war and sap its will to continue fighting. Years of battle with guerrillas in Afghanistan and Iraq might have forced the U.S. military to adopt a new counterinsurgency manual in 2006, but it has been difficult for American forces to break free of the mindset outlined by von Clausewitz and the like. Not all of the responsibility for this attachment to tradition rests with the military, however, as the country’s politicians and public don’t typically have much patience or long attention spans. For evidence, look no further than President George W. Bush’s May 2003 “Mission Accomplished” speech or President Barack Obama’s ostensible withdrawal from Iraq.

Issued CCW permits increased approximately 275 percent over a ten-year period, from 4.6 million permits in 2007 to over 17.25 permits in 2018, according to a study released Friday by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC). The number has been increasing year over year and is forecast to continue trending upwards.

Judge Blocks Washington Ballot Initiative

Thurston County Superior Court Judge James Dixon ruled that the petitions circulated by paid canvassing groups working for the Alliance for Gun Responsibility failed to meet state requirements for readability and did not contain a full and correct copy of the printed measure — which Second Amendment advocates characterized as using “microscopic†text. Dixon said his decision was an easy one.
Texas Blocks Profs’ Lawsuit

The panel for the 5th U.S. Circuit on Thursday upheld Texas’ campus carry law, affirming a lower court ruling from last July. The judges found the professors could not prove their case, which largely centered on First Amendment grounds. The faculty members, three female liberal arts professors whose classwork sometimes touches on controversial subjects such as abortion and unwanted pregnancies, argued the carry of guns in their classes would chill open and frank discussion, thus hindering their right to free speech.

President Signs Military Pay Raise

President Trump signed the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, a bill authorizing an increase of over 15,000 troops as well as a long-overdue pay raise for soldiers. The military spending package includes $717 billion for national defense in the next fiscal year, according to the White House.
