When Marijuana and Guns Come Together

From The Truth About Guns:

KING5 in Seattle reported on a pot shop that’s hired armed security following a pair of armed robberies in recent months. They must have found the only pot shop in America that didn’t already have a guard with a gun. Then again, many pot shops in Washington State advertise themselves as “no guns” locations for customers. They also (obviously) have recreational pharmaceuticals and, thanks to banking regulations, deal exclusively in cash, making them ideal targets for violent criminals.

Feds Payout $127 Million After Failing To Follow Tips On Parkland Shooter

From The Daily Mail:

The US government has agreed to pay $127.5m to the relatives of 17 killed in a 2018 school shooting after admitting the FBI failed to follow up two tips that could have prevented it.

Federal officials confirmed the settlement with families of those murdered, as well as survivors, following the February 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, by former student Nikolas Cruz.

23 States And Over Half The Population Can Carry Without A Permit

From The Washington Post:

On Monday, Ohio became the 23rd state to enact a law eliminating permits as a requirement for concealed carry. The Buckeye State closely followed Alabama, where Gov. Kay Ivey signed a similar law on March 10.

The back-to-back wins for gun-rights advocates who want to see fewer restrictions on the Second Amendment signal how partisan divides and relentless activism at the state level are significantly reshaping the landscape around gun possession.

Whitmer Vetoes Bill That Would Require Concealed Carry Permit Processing During Emergencies

From Bearing Arms:

In a letter to legislators Friday, the Democratic governor said the measure would have mandated that clerks issue licenses without regard to the scope or gravity of the emergency or whether in-person services would jeopardize clerks.

Republican Sen. Lana Theis called the veto disappointing for gun owners and said Second Amendment rights can’t be infringed.

Officers Association Against No-Knock Raids

From National Tactical Officers Association:

We can all agree that there is no easy answer, but there is a correct answer: No-knock search warrants, though well-intended, no longer pass the test of tactical science, risk mitigation practices, and liability-conscious decision-making.

How To Talk About Guns

From NRA Women:

Thinking about the person to whom you’re talking and asking, “How have you understood or used firearms in your life?” will likely give you some information to help you tailor your conversation.

If I know that the woman with whom I’m speaking has never shot a firearm, and her family never owned one, I will talk about different things than, say, when talking to my friend whose dad doesn’t think shooting and hunting is ladylike. My advice is to strive to prevent others from feeling judged or ignorant. There are facets of people’s upbringing over which they did not have control. We can share how excited we are for them to learn, though! Personally, I try to let the positives that I find in shooting, competing, feeding my family through hunting—all the good things I see in firearms ownership—shine through in how I talk.
