Kill’em With Kindness
From Ammoland:
The “rabble†has officially been roused in the commonwealth of Virginia, and there is serious potential for things to get ugly.
We strongly urge defenders of gun rights to be calm and careful as they stand firm for their rights. The hyperbole has gotten heated and has been fed by extremists from both sides, making exaggerated claims, threats, and pronouncements.
VA Gov Bans Guns Ahead Of Rally
From The Truth About Guns:
To be clear: The odds of the country’s current culture wars going hot are still extremely low. But thanks to a “public safety†move originally intended to tone down a long-simmering standoff between gun rights groups and a newly elected Democratic Virginia legislature, those odds got a solid boost.
On Wednesday, word got out that Virginia Governor Ralph Northam will announce plans to use his emergency powers to ban guns at a gun rights protest next week at the state capitol, in reaction to the increasingly dire rhetoric from pro-gun groups over a slate of new gun control laws proposed by the state’s new Democratic legislature.
How Women Can Prepare For Dangerous Encounters
From The Federalist:
If you decide a firearm is the route you want to take, it’s important to do so methodically. Every state has different laws about how to possess a handgun legally, so follow the guidelines in your state. In fact, contrary to some of the outlandish rhetoric on social media last week, concealed carry permit holders are some of the most law-abiding citizens around. Resolve to do likewise. Start with the U.S. Concealed Carry site, which offers good pointers.
Slate Concerned About Right Wing Violence, Silent On Left Wing Violence
From Slate:
Though they vary across the states, the anti–private army laws target the same basic phenomenon: forming armed groups not answerable to civil authorities, providing paramilitary training for use in civil disorders, and falsely assuming police or military roles. The constitutional provisions and statutes can form the basis for injunctions prohibiting members associating together while armed or setting up training camps, restrictions on public events like rallies, and even criminal prosecutions.
Americans Continue History Of Disobedience
From The Truth About Guns:
Alongside the swirl of headlines about the Second Amendment sanctuary movement in Virginia, there are the echoes of other courageous American patriots who have battled lawless tyrants in their time.
The wailing, gun-confiscating leftists of 2019 need to know this: declarations of “We will not comply!†in America are as old as the fruited plain.
Pennsylvania Gov Declares Unfinished Firearms Same As Firearms
From Guns.com:
“My Office is taking the initial step of clarifying – through my official, legal opinion – that under Pennsylvania law, 80 percent receivers are firearms and can be treated, regulated, and enforced as such,†Shapiro said at a news conference with Wolf and State Police officials.
The six-page opinion, issued to Col. Robert Evanchick, the State Police Commissioner, concludes that a partially-manufactured receiver is a firearm if it is designed in a way that it “may be readily converted†to a completed receiver. This would result in such items being treated under the law as factory-produced firearms, with serial numbers, federal background checks and the like.
Second Amendment Battle Continues In Courts
From The Federalist:
In Worman, district court judge William G. Young upheld Massachusetts’ ban not by disputing whether the firearms and magazines in question are “in common use,†but on the notion that semi-automatic rifles are close enough to fully-automatic rifles that they might as well be considered one and the same. That idea originated in the first chapter of a 2003 publication by the anti-gun activist group that in 1988 proposed that gun control activists adopt “assault weapons†as a “new topic†to “strengthen the handgun restriction lobby.†A representative of the group was one of the Democrat witnesses during Democrats’ House Judiciary Committee hearing on “assault weapons†in September. (See items 5, 8, and 9 here.)
Organizing For Gun Rights
From Ammoland:
Over the next three months, we will ask each of you to step up. There will be articles on how to form a local program. What groups we like for local political support. I know in my heart we can turn this around. In order to do that, however, we need to reach out to other gun owners, explain to them what is at risk.
Misrepresenting “Well Regulated Militia”
From Reason:
When the Second Amendment was written, the idea that Americans had an individual right (and in some cases an obligation) to possess arms for defense of both themselves and the state was widely understood. It had roots in the rights won by the Glorious Revolution of 1688—rights that the American Revolution was dedicated to preserving.
Gun Laws America REALLY Needs
From The Federalist:
For various reasons, perhaps including his waffling on guns, it is not certain that Trump will be reelected in 2020. But if he stops listening to members of his family who support gun control, if the Republican Senate quashes Democrats’ gun schemes, if Trump is reelected, if the Republicans hold the Senate, and if they re-take the House of Representatives—a lot of ifs—he and the Republicans could change federal gun laws for the better.
Aggressively pursuing these changes and explaining to the American people why the changes are warranted would help protect the right of the people to keep and bear arms. By now, supporters of that right should have figured out that they will never win the war to protect it if they remain catatonic when the opportunity to pass good laws exists, then cower when Democrats and the liberal-left media attack in the minutes, hours, and days after a high-profile crime involving a gun.
Confiscation By Another Name
From The Federalist:
The media should stop using absurdly lazy phrases like “mandatory gun buybacks.†Unless the politician they’re talking about is in the business of selling firearms, it’s impossible for him to “buy back†anything. No government official—not Joe Biden, not Beto O’Rourke, not any of the candidates who now support “buyback†programs—has ever sold firearms.
“Do Something” Is Not A Solution
But the something matters an awful lot. In this case—and in so many others—”do something” actually means “do something to other people.” It means “force other people to do something they don’t want to do, even if you’re not sure it will actually help.” The call to “do something” privileges action over analysis and mandatory one-size-fits-all solutions over incremental, local, and voluntary action.
Don’t Fall For Background Check Ruse
From The Federalist:
By way of background, firearm dealers are required to run a background check on anyone to whom they sell guns. “Universal†checks would impose the same requirement on everyone else.
Whenever there is a multiple-victim murder with a gun, Democrats don’t wait for law enforcement agencies to determine how the perpetrator acquired the gun. They immediately demand “universal†checks, to trick the public into thinking that the perpetrator could not pass a background check, therefore bought the gun from someone who is not a dealer, therefore the crime would have been prevented if the seller had been required to conduct a check.
Beto: Confiscation and Registration
The Democrats have been gas-lighting gun owners for years claiming confiscation and registration were “crazy” fears.
From Townhall:
“This is a country that has produced the leadership that will ensure that we not only have universal background checks and red flag laws and end the sale of those weapons of war, but that we go the necessary steps further as politically difficult as they may be,” O’Rourke explained. “A gun registry in this country, licensing for every American who owns a firearm and every single one of those AR15s and AK47s will be bought back so they’re not on our streets, not in our homes, do not take the lives of our fellow Americans.”
Why A “Buyback” Won’t Work
From Reason:
So how has that worked out? Well, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s conservative estimate, New Yorkers owned about 1 million “assault weapons” at the time the ban was passed. So the 44,000 that were actually registered are about 4 percent of the total. This noncompliance with the law is widespread and mostly open, but the police aren’t doing much about it.
I could give several more examples of such reporting. But the upshot is that gun owners are overwhelmingly ignoring the law—and the police are overwhelmingly looking the other way.
