Anti-Gunners Want More Laws, Less Enforcement
From Bearing Arms:
Until just a few months ago, gun control groups would likely have cheered the president’s decision. After all, more federal law enforcement resources means more opportunities to enforce federal gun laws. Since the start of the “defund police†movement, however, gun control advocates have found themselves in the increasingly awkward position of advocating for more gun laws to be put on the books, while downplaying the idea of actually enforcing them.
Group Publishes List Of Anti-Gun Businesses
The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has launched a public campaign alerting gun owners about businesses and their CEOs who push for increased gun control and prohibition, identifying the culprits.
The “Don’t Feed the Gun Prohibitionists†project has developed a dynamic list of businesses and CEOs who have been pushing for new legislation designed to impair the rights of law-abiding firearms owners. The list may be found at www.ccrkba.org/antigunbusinesses.
Gun Owners Should Change Their Words
From The Truth About Guns:
If you ever call yourself a “law-abiding†gun owner, stop. It’s degrading. It insults the shooting community, and it hurts private gun ownership. Stop now and never use that phrase again.
“Ghost Guns” Can’t Be Controlled
From Bearing Arms:
It’s easy for someone writing to say that the ATF should regulate “ghost guns,†but the problem is that there’s no practical way to do it. Sure, the ATF could redefine at what point a receiver becomes a firearm, but that will likely push people to build guns complying with the new rules. It wouldn’t actually stop anyone.
Elites Hate That Normal People Have Guns
From The Washington Post:
Thus do right-wing extremists exploit America’s lax gun laws for political gain. Of course, the open carrying of rifles or handguns is a recipe for intimidation and potentially deadly confusion, even when not politically motivated. If shots ring out on a street full of armed pedestrians, how are the police supposed to identify the culprit?
On the whole, though, no state worthy of the name can permit exceptions to its monopoly on legitimate deployment of armed force like those in Michigan or North Carolina. Surely no sensible interpretation of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms would say a state must tolerate them.
The Gun Boom Is Creating A Cultural Shift
From The Truth About Guns:
Owning guns had already shifted some of his political opinions. He said he still supported limits on larger-capacity ammunition magazines. But when he bought his guns, he said, he had to wait 10 days to get them. “That was an eternity to me,†he said. “Are these really common sense gun laws?â€
Pandemic Puts Mask Orders In Conflict With Anti-mask Laws
From The Truth About Guns:
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker issued an executive order last week requiring residents to wear masks in public effective May 1st. However, the order puts gun owners in jeopardy with Illinois firearms laws.
Sec. 24-1. Unlawful use of weapons.
(a) A person commits the offense of unlawful use of weapons when he knowingly:
(9) Carries or possesses in a vehicle or on or about his or her person any pistol, revolver, stun gun or taser or firearm or ballistic knife, when he or she is hooded, robed or masked in such manner as to conceal his or her identity;Â [Emphasis added]
Gun Controllers Upset When Faced With Their Own Policies
From RedState:
Not only are many liberals suddenly learning to love their Second Amendment rights, many of them are finding out that the gun control narrative in this country — as repeated loudly and often by Hollywood and the mainstream media — is a complete lie.
Canadians Fight Back Against Gun Ban
From Guns.com:
A petition to stop the Liberal government of Canada implementing a ban on “military-style assault rifles†has reached 153,000 signatures – well over six times bigger than any previous petition. The petition opened on Dec. 17, 2019, and will close on Feb. 15, 2020.
Prominent law enforcement officers have stated that a ban will have little effect. “When we seize handguns, the handguns are always, almost 100-percent, in the possession of people who have no legal right to possess them. They’re almost always stolen or illegally obtained,†said Winnipeg Police Service spokesperson Const. Rob Carver earlier this month.
Firearm Infringements
From Ammoland:
Gary B. Wells is announcing the publication of his third edition of “Firearm Laws: Volume 1: Federal Infringements†and his second edition of “Firearm Laws: Volume 2: Texas Infringements.â€
Regardless of how the firearm laws are erroneously characterized (i.e., reasonable, common sense, minimally intrusive, etc.), they are infringements on the “right of the people to keep and bear arms.†So long as these infringements are being enforced, it is necessary to understand these laws to avoid getting into legal trouble and losing your firearm rights, whether as an individual or as a federal firearms licensee.
Woman Shot Ex In Self Defense In Jail; Ex Out On Bail
From Bearing Arms:
A woman in Decatur, Illinois who shot her ex in self-defense after he attacked her in her vehicle is now behind bars on $75,000 bond, while her abuser is already back out on the streets.
According to the Herald-Review newspaper, police say the woman was defending herself when she fired the shot from her legally owned firearm, but because she doesn’t have a concealed carry license, she’s now facing a felony charge.
Project Guardian Encourages More Vigilance With Current Gun Laws
From The Hill:
Project Guardian, introduced by Attorney General William Barr last month, is a multifaceted plan that will rely on improved information sharing to more effectively enforce current firearms laws and better prosecute the criminals who violate them. Primarily, Project Guardian places increased reporting standards on federal law enforcement to regularly share with state law enforcement the lists of persons rejected from buying a firearm under the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). More specifically, this memo directs the offices of all U.S Attorneys to more promptly submit to NICS case records of individuals who become legally ineligible to own firearms. This will greatly reduce the lag time between a court’s decision to determine an individual is disqualified from buying or possessing a firearm and the NICS database having knowledge of that determination.
More Laws Lead To Corruption In California
From NRA-ILA:
In news that will not shock gun rights supporters, the anti-gun utopia of California has provided further evidence that unjust gun control laws invite official corruption. According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California, former San Diego County Sheriff’s Captain Marco Garmo was arrested on November 22 for allegedly using his position to circumvent the state’s “roster of certified handguns.â€Further, another individual allegedly made “unlawful paymentsâ€to a member of the county’s “CCW processing staffâ€to assist in the acquisition of may-issue California Concealed Weapons Permits.
California Gun Laws Still Don’t Work
From Reason:
California has the gun laws that restrictionists say they want. Universal background checks? Yes, indeed. “Assault weapon” ban? Through tighter and tighter iterations, you bet. Registration? Uh huh. Red flag law to strip guns from the hands of maybe, potentially dangerous people? For several years now, and toughened just last month.
These are dream laws for anti-gunners around the country, and yet they didn’t stop Nathaniel Berhow from murdering two people and injuring three others before shooting himself at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, California, earlier this month. Instead of being stymied by legal restrictions, the killer worked around them.
