Group Calls For Return To Gun Safety Classes
From Ammoland:
Sometimes championed by what passes for “news†today, they act completely against American values, including dramatically against our fundamental right to keep and bear arms. Socialists are dead set against an armed public, which they now fearlessly announce, because they know all too well it represents a threat to their absolute power. Historically, socialist regimes all disarm their subjects, frequently leading to genocide.
Judge Stops Pennsylvania’s Arbitrary “Partially Manufactured” Gun Law
From The Truth About Guns:
The “indefiniteness of PSP’s new enforcement policy on what constitutes a firearm in this Commonwealth creates the potential for arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement,†Judge Brobson explained in today’s opinon. “The public policy of this Commonwealth does not favor such vague laws.†And while there “are many ills that our society faces, and government can be an effective force in combatting them,†the “laudable intentions and policy goals of a government agency, however, cannot override limits on governmental power. Simply put, the ends cannot justify the means.â€
Anti Gun Bigots Exposed After VA Rally
From Reason:
Talia Lavin could not believe her eyes, and she urged the rest of us not to believe our eyes either. “It seems myopic at best to describe the Monday event as ‘peaceful,'” Lavin wrote in a GQ article about the rally, which attracted thousands of armed Second Amendment supporters energized by Northam’s gun control agenda.
Lavin’s reality-bending assessment reflects a Manichean attitude, all too common among gun control supporters, that casts sincere policy disagreements as a battle between good and evil. That attitude explains why so many activists, politicians, and journalists found it easy to equate a gathering of civil libertarians, organized around the defense of constitutional rights, with an invasion by white supremacists determined to sow chaos and provoke a race war.
VA Democrat Backs Down On Gun Control
From Shore Daily News:
As I stated publicly before the Session and as was reported in Eastern Shore news media I will not be supporting any type of ban legislation whether on a particular type of firearm or a particular type of magazine. In addition Senator Howell has proposed SB581 which is very problematic and further highlights the cultural divide in our Commonwealth. That bill has an unintended consequence making it very difficult for our young people between the ages of fourteen and eighteen to have access to firearms for hunting and other purposes. Unless that legislation is amended in some significant way I will not be voting in favor of it. Senator Saslaw put in a bill which would raise the legal age for firearm purchases to twenty-one. As a general philosophical approach to legislation which seeks to increase the age threshold from eighteen to twenty-one I have a problem, since we allow eighteen year olds to vote and in all other respects be treated as adult members of society.
Firearm Infringements
From Ammoland:
Gary B. Wells is announcing the publication of his third edition of “Firearm Laws: Volume 1: Federal Infringements†and his second edition of “Firearm Laws: Volume 2: Texas Infringements.â€
Regardless of how the firearm laws are erroneously characterized (i.e., reasonable, common sense, minimally intrusive, etc.), they are infringements on the “right of the people to keep and bear arms.†So long as these infringements are being enforced, it is necessary to understand these laws to avoid getting into legal trouble and losing your firearm rights, whether as an individual or as a federal firearms licensee.
Florida Republicans Exempt Themselves From Gun Law
From The Truth About Guns:
Coincidentally, both bills grant an exemption to Florida lawmakers and elected officials from the CCW ban. Currently, under Statute 790.06(12)(a)(7), it is illegal for a licensed concealed weapons permit holder to carry at:
7. Any meeting of the governing body of a county, public school district, municipality, or special district.
That’s apparently inconvenient for the lawmakers, therefore something must be done. They wish to amend the law and grant themselves and their minor league municipal political teammates an exemption to the prohibition. The wording of the proposed bills states the following:
7. Any meeting of the governing body of a county, public school district, municipality, or special district, except that nothing in this section precludes an elected member of the governing body of a county, public school district, municipality, or special district licensed under this section from carrying a concealed weapon or firearm to a meeting of the governing body of which he or she is a member;
What’s The Probability Of Civil War
From Medium:
I claimed a 37% lifetime chance based on raw historical data, and caught flack, but the consensus among those particular risk analysis professionals is around 35% in the next decade. Let’s unpack that incredible figure for a second, with a little mathematics. I derived my 37% lifetime estimate based on an annual chance of 0.59% per year. If their 35% chance per decade estimate is accurate, using the same math (as done before, but backwards), they’d be looking at a 4.3% chance per year. Mr. Mines thinks it’s bigger.
What Happened At The Richmond Rally
From The Federalist:
I do not suspect this will be reported: A strong number of the folks carrying ARs also had medical or first aid kits on their persons. These were not individuals anticipating offensive action; these individuals were prepared to help.
Several distinct groups could be distinguished. A group from Pennsylvania sported signs that read, “Don’t VA PA.†Harsh, but fair. Texans carried the familiar “Come and take it†cannon flag. One gaggle carried the “An Appeal To Heaven†flag. The Pink Pistols, a national LGBT pro-gun group, was present, as was the African-American Black Guns Matter group. An untold number of signs reminded everyone that gun rights are women’s rights and that firearms are the great equalizers.
Bill To Require Suspicious Gun Purchases
From Reason:
Rep. Jennifer Wexton’s (D–Va.) “Gun Violence Prevention Through Financial Intelligence Act” would require the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) to “request information from financial institutions for the purpose of developing an advisory about the identification and reporting of suspicious activity.” The bill’s aim is to identify a consistent purchasing pattern among people who buy firearms and firearm accessories in order to conduct “lone wolf acts of terror” and expose how the firearms market in the United States is exploited by would-be mass shooters.
The Atlantic: Any Display Of A Gun Is A Threat
From The Atlantic:
The freedom to buy, own, and carry firearms, whatever its scope, is in no respect like the freedom of speech. Speech consists of words and launches ideas. “Symbolic speech†refers to signs, flags, photographs, and gestures that express those words and ideas. A gun is not merely a symbol; it is not like words or ideas. It is an instrument of violence and death, and its display amid a crowd is a threat.
Kill’em With Kindness
From Ammoland:
The “rabble†has officially been roused in the commonwealth of Virginia, and there is serious potential for things to get ugly.
We strongly urge defenders of gun rights to be calm and careful as they stand firm for their rights. The hyperbole has gotten heated and has been fed by extremists from both sides, making exaggerated claims, threats, and pronouncements.
How Will Virginia Enforce New Gun Laws?
From Open Source Defense:
A sheriff in a rural county couldn’t enforce this law even if they wanted to. 140,000 armed citizens in noncompliance would account for 1.6% of the entire Virginia population. Best estimates of the Syrian civil war show that even at it’s peak, only 1% to 2% of the nation were active combatants, counting all sides. And the noncompliant gun owners have home turf, and are probably better equipped and better marksmen than many of the folks in Syria. The barrier to enforcement isn’t just ideological, it’s functional.
VA Gov Bans Guns Ahead Of Rally
From The Truth About Guns:
To be clear: The odds of the country’s current culture wars going hot are still extremely low. But thanks to a “public safety†move originally intended to tone down a long-simmering standoff between gun rights groups and a newly elected Democratic Virginia legislature, those odds got a solid boost.
On Wednesday, word got out that Virginia Governor Ralph Northam will announce plans to use his emergency powers to ban guns at a gun rights protest next week at the state capitol, in reaction to the increasingly dire rhetoric from pro-gun groups over a slate of new gun control laws proposed by the state’s new Democratic legislature.
