Constitutional Carry Causing More Problems Than Anticipated For Armed Citizens
From Bearing Arms:
And since Texas became one of about half of the states in the country that view carrying a gun as a constitutional right, it looks like people are getting confused by those complicated laws. Several of Cargill’s students over the last year and a half signed up for an LTC class hoping to avoid conviction for unlawfully carrying a weapon ― usually after taking a gun somewhere they shouldn’t have.
When Cargill checked the Texas Department of Public Safety’s website, he found that his experience wasn’t an anomaly. Convictions for unlawfully carrying weapons skyrocketed in the state, from 1,049 in 2020 to nearly 7,000 last year — a spike of 550% and the highest number by far since 2016, the last year of complete data. The state adopted the constitutional carry law in September 2021.
Gun Control Groups Pressured CDC To Remove Data
From The Reload:
The Centers For Disease Control (CDC) deleted a reference to a study it commissioned after a group of gun-control advocates complained it made passing new restrictions more difficult.
The lobbying campaign spanned months and culminated with a private meeting between CDC officials and three advocates last summer, a collection of emails obtained by The Reload show. Introductions from the White House and Senator Dick Durbin’s (D., Ill.) office helped the advocates reach top officials at the agency after their initial attempt to reach out went unanswered. The advocates focused their complaints on the CDC’s description of its review of studies that estimated defensive gun uses (DGU) happen between 60,000 and 2.5 million times per year in the United States–attacking criminologist Gary Kleck’s work establishing the top end of the range.
Mass Shooting In Gun Banned Australia
From The Truth About Guns:
Despite that massive gun confiscation of almost all firearms, not just “weapons of mass murder,” six people were shot to death, including two young police officers in a stand-off Monday evening.
Minorities Worried Oregon Gun Restriction Will Handicap Their Ability To Buy Firearms
From OPB.org:
But Measure 114 lacks criteria clearly defining what disqualifies applicants, details on what makes someone a threat and what data can be used by law enforcement in making that decision. That’s a problem for activists who have critiqued law enforcement, particularly in the racial justice protests that took place over the past two years.
“I just feel like if I was to go online and say like the police are terrorists or something … [the police] would be like, ‘Well, you seem like you might not be fit for this community to be armed,’ ” says Mia Rose, a trans person of color and former licensed firearms dealer. “If they were to get that information that you got snatched up off the street [arrested during the Portland protests prompted by the killing of George Floyd in 2020], I would assume that the law would say they could deny your purchase, or deny your right to have a permit.”
If only the gun rights groups had warned the people about possible government overreach.
California AG Refuses To Defend Gun Control Law
From Bearing Arms:
California Attorney General Rob Bonta dropped a bit of a legal bombshell on Thursday night, filing a supplemental brief in federal court to declare that his office will not be defending a controversial new law that’s designed to make it nearly impossible for Second Amendment organizations and gun owners in the state to challenge any of the state’s gun control laws.
Native Canadians Against Gun Ban
From Bearing Arms:
Chiefs at the Assembly of First Nations have voted to publicly reject the Liberal government’s proposed gun-control legislation.
An amendment to Bill C-21, which is currently being debated by members of Parliament, aims to create an evergreen definition for “assault-style” weapons and enshrine it in law, allowing the government to ban hundreds of models of firearms.
Some First Nations leaders say they’re concerned to see rifles used for hunting on the list and voted today to take a stand against the bill, which they say infringes on their treaty rights.
Oregon Gun Control On Hold
From The Truth About Guns:
Moments ago, a judge in Oregon blocked enforcement of Oregon’s Ballot Measure 114. Judge Richard Raschio placed a temporary restraining order on the law which would have taken effect Thursday, December 8th. Guns Owners of America and the GOA Foundation are the organizations behind this along with Gliff Asmussen and Joseph Arnold.
Bank CEO That Pushed Credit Card Gun Code Wants To Report On Citizens’ “Suspicious” Activity
From Ammoland:
“‘Detection scenarios’ are in the works that, if triggered, would prompt banks to file a Suspicious Activity Report to the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network,” the story elaborates, citing Amalgamated Bank Chief Executive Officer Priscilla Sims Brown.
Oregon AG Wants To Delay Gun Restriction Law Due To Current Chaos At Gun Stores
From Bearing Arms:
In a letter to U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut, who is hearing the lawsuits seeking to block 114 from becoming law, Attorney General Rosenblum said that the state will seek a postponement of the permit requirement to give law enforcement officers more time to implement the new law.
“Postponing the permit requirement by approximately two months should give Oregon law enforcement time to have a fully functional permitting system in place. If Judge Immergut agrees to the postponement, then starting in February anyone who purchases a gun in Oregon will be required to have a permit,” Rosenblum said.
Oregon Measure 114 Causes Spike In Gun Sales
From Bearing Arms:
As we’ve been reporting for the past few weeks, the narrow passage of Measure 114 (approved by just 50.7% of voters) has led to a huge spike in the number of gun sales. At the moment, the Oregon State Police are so backlogged with background check requests on firearm transfers that they’re automatically delaying all new requests, and the Oregon Capital Chronicle reports that it could take months to get through the checks that have already been submitted.
“Weapons of War” Is The Point Of The Second Amendment
From The Truth About Guns:
Personal self-defense is certainly a critical aspect of the Second Amendment, but both the founders as well as the generations immediately after them considered one other purpose paramount: a final defense against a tyrannical government that attempts to overthrow our constitutional order.
Embarrassing as it may be to admit for some polite society academics of today, the Bill of Rights was written by people who just finished violently overthrowing their former government. Based on that experience, they were obviously very fearful of the new government they were forming becoming tyrannical, and so they included the Second Amendment, in part, as a failsafe.
Republican State AGs Target Shipping Companies On Guns
From Bearing Arms:
Montana Attorney General Austin Knudson and a coalition of 16 other Republican AGs have sent letters to the CEOs of FedEx and UPS demanding answers about new policies that they allege could help the Biden administration establish a backdoor gun registry.
Biden Says The Truth, Wants To Ban All Semi-Auto Guns
The Democrats have lied for decades about their true goal to ban all guns.
From Fox News:
“The idea we still allow semi-automatic weapons to be purchased is sick,” Biden said. “Just sick. It has no socially redeeming value. Zero. None. Not a single solitary rationale for it except profit for the gun manufacturers.”
Concealed Carry Expo Shows The Changing Demographics of Gun Owners
From The Federalist:
According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, 2020’s record-breaking surge in new gun ownership was more than just a spike. An NSSF survey of gun retailers found that 40 percent of Americans making firearm purchases were buying one for the first time, and of those first-time buyers, 40 percent were women. Gun stores also found that 58 percent of firearm purchases were by black men and women, “the largest increase of any demographic group.”
