Remington Moves Headquarters To Georgia
From Ammoland:
The announcement marks a turning point for the 205-year-old firearm maker, which was founded in 1816. Remington Firearms was purchased by Roundhill Group investors after bankruptcy proceedings last year. Production of the flagship rifles and shotguns resumed at the Ilion, N.Y., factory and will continue with plans to continue growing the workforce there.
Remington Firearms plans to move equipment that was located at the former Huntsville, Ala., location to the new headquarters in La Grange. Production in Georgia will include firearm models not currently made in the Ilion factory.
The Big Ammo Companies Are Owned By Two Private Equity Firms
From The American Prospect:
At a glance, Americans appear to have a variety of ammunition companies to choose from: Remington, Winchester, Speer, CCI (Cascade Cartridge, Inc.), Federal Premium. Winchester bills itself as “The American Legend†and has been in business for over 150 years, while Remington has been making guns and ammo for over 200 years and states that their company is as “boundless as the American spirit.†These companies associate their brands with freedom, independence, and toughness. What most customers do not know, however, is that they are all owned by the same two entities: Olin Corporation and Vista Outdoor.
Smith and Wesson Finally Leaves Maryland For Tennessee
From Ammoland:
Mark Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer, said “This has been an extremely difficult and emotional decision for us, but after an exhaustive and thorough analysis, for the continued health and strength of our iconic company, we feel that we have been left with no other alternative.†He specifically cited legislation recently proposed in Massachusetts that, if enacted, would prohibit the company from manufacturing certain firearms in the state.
3.5 Million Women Became New Gun Owners In Last Two Years
From CNS News:
Women have bought almost half of all guns purchased since the beginning of 2019, reported The Wall Street Journal on Sept. 16.
Preliminary results of the 2021 National Firearms Survey, obtained exclusively by The Journal, found that about 3.5 million women became new gun owners between January 2019 and April 2021. Approximately 4 million men purchased first-time guns during that period.
Democrats’ Backdoor Gun Control
From The Federalist:
President Biden and his elitist allies in woke banks and investment firms know that severe restrictions on Second Amendment rights aren’t possible given the current composition of the Supreme Court, thanks in large part to President Trump. So they are turning to other tactics instead, most of which aren’t being covered by the press, to get the job done. It’s working.
For more than a decade, investors, banks, and other financial institutions have been dragging U.S. corporations toward the full adoption of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards, posing a significant threat to the long-term survival of the firearms industry.
Russian Ammo Ban Is An Attack On American Gun Owners
From Reason:
If you’re ideologically committed to a course of action, like imposing restrictive policies, it’s frustrating when the people you want to hurt refuse to cooperate. It’s even more aggravating when some of the folks on your side lose faith and start doing the things you don’t like. If you’re clever and unwilling to compromise, you might then find a backdoor way to impose your will and, incidentally, prod your allies into line. By all appearance, that’s what we’re seeing with the Biden administration’s ban on imports of ammunition from Russia, an important source for America’s tight ammo market.
Armslist Sues Big Tech For Deplatforming
From The Truth About Guns:
Armslist LLC and owner Jonathan Gibbon recently filed a lawsuit against Facebook and Instagram over the social media giants’ decision to suspend Gibbon’s personal and business accounts in January, 2020.
According to the lawsuit, Gibbon and Armslist Marketing Director, Andrew Varney III, were “targeted†because of “their conservative and libertarian political views,†Trib Live reported.
Gun Sales Slowing
From Bearing Arms:
“You can’t sell what you don’t have, so sales haven’t been as brisk in the last few months as it was last year, simply because of inventory levels,†said Mark Peltier, a gun salesman at Dunnellon Jewelry & Pawn, in Dunnellon, Florida. “A lot of guns are unavailable and unobtainable.â€
The Coming FFL Crackdown
From NRA-ILA:
According to the president and his ever-obliging attorney general, a “crackdown†is coming on America’s federally licensed gun dealers (FFLs), with “zero tolerance†for allegedly illegal behavior. While no decent person – least of all the NRA or its members – supports arming dangerous criminals, a recent case from Texas provides disturbing hints as to what this policy might look like in practice.
Biden Targets FFLs
From The Truth About Guns:
The Justice Department will announce a new “zero tolerance†policy to revoke the federal licenses of firearms dealers who willfully violate gun laws, senior administration officials said. That includes actions such as selling a gun to someone who is prohibited from possessing one, failing to do a background check on gun purchasers or falsifying records.
If You Need A Job, The Gun Industry Is Hiring
From Forbes:
Gun companies have been hiring thousands of workers throughout the coronavirus pandemic, riding an unprecedented swell in gun sales and bucking a steep overall decline in manufacturing employment in the U.S.
The publicly traded leaders in the industry said they’ve ramped up hiring during the pandemic to try and meet the record demand for guns and ammunition, which has outstripped the industry’s manufacturing capacity.
CNN On The Changing Politics Of Guns
From CNN:
Several studies show most women, LGBTQ and Asian Americans, and an overwhelming majority of Black Americans, tend to vote for Democrats. Women and Black Americans were also the driving forces behind a 40% surge in first-time gun buyers through the first four months of 2020, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a firearms trade group that tracks and analyzes gun sales across the country.NSSF spokesman Mark Oliva said his organization believes many of those first-time gun buyers are Democratic voters.
The Ammo Shortage Could Last Another 2 Years
From The Reload:
As store shelves lie barren and prices for the most popular ammunition hover at two, three, or even five times their pre-pandemic levels, manufacturers said they are still scrambling to bring enough product to market. They said they are still working through several years’ worth of orders that have already been placed.
“On certain products, we are certainly seeing backlogs that stretch out two years and beyond,†Brett Flaugher, president of Winchester Ammunition, told The Reload. “For those who shoot 9mm and 5.56 ammunition, which are both in high demand, it’s very uncertain how long it will be before people will consistently have ammunition readily available.â€
