Firearms Instructors Train Women For Free In Detroit
From Guns In The News:
Firearm Instructors united August 15th and 16th in Taylor – a Detroit suburb – to provide free firearm training to 1,938 metro-Detroit women. They answered a call for assistance by Rick Ector, a Detroit Firearm Instructor, who conducts an annual program to give women a free range safety briefing and a free shooting lesson. Last year, 814 local women were trained by the program. At that point in time, it was the program’s highest-ever attendance total.
Biden Finally Condemns Riots After New Polling
From Bearing Arms:
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden finally condemned the ongoing violence in Kenosha, Wis. and cities across the country after his campaign initially “misjudged how important it was to the American people,†pollster and president of Maslansky & Partners, Lee Carter told “Fox & Friends Weekend†Sunday.
Advantages Of A Two Point Sling
From SOFREP:
To put it simply: the one-point sling is not versatile enough. It’s really good at a specific role, and that is accommodating a direct action based use of the weapon. It is extremely good in this capacity but because it is such a specialized piece of kit, it lacks the versatility of the two-point. I am fully aware that they make hybrid slings that can be configured for both set-ups — honestly, this is a good option. But in my mind, the two-point is the appropriate choice when options are limited.
Anti-Trumpers Consider Military Coup
From The Washington Examiner:
Recently, two retired Army officers speculated about deploying a brigade from the 82nd Airborne Division to overpower Trump’s “private army” that they believe the defeated president will use to try to cling to office. Another retired officer, a former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, imagined the military in battle with armed Trump supporters, the result being that “all bets are off as to how much blood might flow.”
NY State Senator Wants To Ban Sale And Manufacture Of Firearms
From Ammoland:
Specifically, the bill would amend New York State’s public nuisance law to allow the state to prosecute the “sale or manufacture of products†as an activity considered to illegally or unreasonably “create or maintain a condition which endangers the safety or health of a considerable number of persons.â€
While the language doesn’t mention firearms specifically, Myrie made clear in comments to the New York Daily News that guns are exactly the “products†he has in mind. “Every illegal gun on the street was a legally purchased gun at one time,†he said. Myrie continued: “In the wake of a gun violence epidemic plaguing the city, state, and nation, we have a duty to hold all responsible parties accountable.â€
Online Gun Sales Can’t Be Stopped
From Bearing Arms:
Private gun sales are banned from most social media platforms, including Facebook, but a new Wall Street Journal story shows just how difficult it can be to proactively enforce the ban, given the creative ways that users have found to get around the edict.
According to the WSJ, would-be gun sellers are now posting pictures of stickers for sale alongside a gun company logo. Interested buyers are encouraged to contact the seller for more info, and that’s when the talk can turn from stickers to sidearms.
Texas Rep Introduces Constitutional Carry
From Gun Owners of America:
“Earlier today, Rep. Biedermann said: ‘Our Constitution was written to ensure certain rights of all citizens. Everyone has the right to life and to protect that life from harm. No one should have to pay a fee or get permission from the government before being able to do so legally. I look forward to working with my colleagues to restore the rights of all Texans.’
Gun Sales May Not Translate To Votes
From The Trace:
Yamane cautioned that acquiring a gun does not guarantee a shift in attitude toward firearms regulation and that Americans are too politically entrenched for the high sales alone to swing the debate or bring about a further loosening of laws. “A huge influx of new gun owners is not going to change the political dynamics of California, for instance, or Oklahoma,†Yamane said.
Silicon Valley and China
From Foreign Policy:
In the U.S. system, laws are legitimate insofar as they are conceived by what Jean-Jacques Rousseau called “the general will†of the people, expressed through the workings of a democratic political system. Laws that are arbitrary or imposed by the will of a single person of authority are illegitimate. Yet the Chinese system rests on the idea that the sole source of legitimacy is the CCP, which represents—it claims—the will of the Chinese nation in its entirety and violently suppresses challenges to its authority. This sharp tension between the political value systems that prevail in the two countries is a primary cause of the spiraling bilateral competition. Tech companies confront this tension when they are tasked to comply with Chinese laws, by enabling the arrest of dissidents for “subversion of state power†or the mass surveillance of Uighurs, which are rightly viewed by most Americans as immoral and illegitimate.
