CA Gun Owner Info To Be Used By Researchers

From Bearing Arms:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law last week A.B. 173, which among other things gives various academics, most of them very likely to be hostile to private gun ownership, access to all the information California collects about the state’s buyers of guns, gun parts, and ammunition.

David Yamane’s Chapter To “Understanding America’s Gun Culture 2nd Ed”

From David Yamane’s Blog:

Understanding America’s Gun Culture is part of a renaissance of interest in the academic study of guns over the past decade. In addition to individual books and articles, this volume sits alongside several other recent edited volumes (Carlson et al. 2019; Obert et al. 2019) and special issues of journals (Metz! as editor for Palgrave Communications in 2019; Steidley and Yamane as editors for Sociological Perspectives and Dowd-Arrow, Burdette, and Hill as editors for Sociological Inquiry, both forthcoming in 2021). All of these works contribute something to our understanding of American gun culture, to be sure. At the same time, they share in common some of the limitations that I have previously identified (Yamane 2017) and that others have highlighted for decades (O’Connor and Lizotte 1978; Wright 1995). Specifically, there is an excessive focus on gun culture as deviant and connected to violent
criminal behavior.

Biden Wants Soldiers Dishonorably Discharged For Refusing Vaccine

From The Daily Mail:

But during the budget bill’s markup under the House Armed Services Committee, an amendment, now section 716, proposed by Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., made its way into the bill that prohibited ‘any discharge but honorable’ for vaccine refusal.

‘I am appalled that the Biden Administration is trying to remove my amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that prevents anything but an honorable discharge for service members who refuse to get the COVID-19 vaccine,’ Green said in a statement to DailyMail.com. ‘This was a bipartisan amendment — every Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee agreed to it.’

Young Adults Continue To Have Their Rights Denied Because Of Slow Legal Process

From The Washington Post:

A panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit dissolved its ruling because the Virginia woman who initially brought the lawsuit turned 21 before the decision became official.

The challenge to the age restrictions was brought by prospective handgun buyer Natalia Marshall, who was unable to purchase a handgun from a federally licensed firearms dealer in Virginia because of her age. Once Marshall turned 21, she was no longer prohibited from buying a handgun, and there was no longer a legal controversy, the court said.

Gun Owners Not The NRA Are Why Gun Control Has Failed

From Stephen Gutowski in The Atlantic:

The deadlock isn’t the result of the NRA paying off politicians to vote against the wishes of their constituents. It’s much simpler than that: Many people in this country own guns, and millions of them are dedicated voters. And they are what now stand in the way of new gun laws.

Whistleblower Claims CCP Intentionally Released Covid At Military Games

From The Daily Mail:

Ex-Chinese Communist Party insider Wei Jingsheng said The World Military Games in October 2019 could have acted as the virus’ first superspreader event.

The international tournament for military athletes was held in Wuhan – the origin of the Covid-19 pandemic – two months before China notified the World Health Organisation about its first cases.

Mr Jingsheng claimed it was no coincidence some of the 9,000 international athletes who gathered for the event reportedly became sick with a mystery illness.

Additional Handgun Skills To Increase Your Competence

From USA Carry:

Many shooters take a basic handgun training course and/or complete the fundamental concealed carry licensing or permit class and stop at that point. Sadly, I have learned that several of our beginning students have done this, even after I have encouraged them to continue their handgun training to the next level. And I am not talking about only the mechanics of shooting, like proper grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control, follow-through, and a few use of deadly force laws. I know I felt that I learned so much after my day-long introductory concealed carry course that I felt that I was ready to defend myself in deadly-force situations and did not need further training on the basic mechanics or other skills.

CNN Uses China To Defend Gun Control

From CNN:

“When my friend told me about the shooting, I thought it was the United States,” one person wrote on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. Another user wrote, “Using a gun to kill people in China? Am I watching an American movie?”

That disbelief widely reflects how rare gun crime is in China — in contrast to it being a daily reality in the US.

The difference is stark when it comes to public safety. Despite being the world’s most populous country, with 1.4 billion residents, China only records a few dozen gun crimes a year. And more broadly, violent crime has continued falling, reaching its lowest level in 20 years in 2020, according to state-run news outlet Xinhua.
