AP Discouraging Use Of “Riot”

The Associated Press Stylebook was amended this week to discourage the use of the word “riot†to describe violent protests, instead expanding the definition of “protest†to include violent demonstrations.
“Use care in deciding which term best applies: A riot is a wild or violent disturbance of the peace involving a group of people. The term riot suggests uncontrolled chaos and pandemonium,†said the AP Stylebook, which sets style guidelines followed by many mainstream media publications.
LA To Pay NRA $150,000

The City of Los Angles tried to penalize any contractor with ties to the NRA. The NRA sued over the ordinance and a judge ruled that was an unconstitutional violation of the NRA’s First Amendment rights. The city eventually repealed it and now the city has been ordered to pay the NRA’s legal fees totaling about $150,000.

Do you want to know why we’re so divided as a nation and that’s not going to change anytime soon? It’s because you can’t have a life separate from your politics. Your political beliefs have to become your entire being, and as such, if someone finds out you hold the wrong opinions, that’s just too much and they can’t support you.
At the same time, they won’t allow people to keep their beliefs private. They’ll hound celebrities or influencers until they can learn about their political beliefs, all the while knowing that unless they’re the right beliefs, the mob will come.
Maryland Man Sentenced To One Year For Having A Party

A Maryland judge sentenced a man to one year in jail after finding him guilty of throwing two large parties in violation of a state pandemic order that banned large gatherings. Police were called to the man’s home twice in one week, and he refused to disband the party on the second occasion, authorities said.
Shawn Marshall Myers, 42, was sentenced on Friday at the District Court of Maryland, said an announcement by the state’s attorney for Charles County. Myers’ legal troubles began on March 22 when “multiple officers responded to Myers’ residence… for the report of a large party” violating Governor Larry Hogan’s order in which “large gatherings were strictly prohibited,” the state’s attorney office said.

It also encourages racial justice protesters and other demonstrators to bring their own weapons to already-tense events.

How The First and Second Amendments Are Linked

The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution didn’t appear out of thin air. In fact, it’s practically plagiarized from the English Bill of Rights. Parliament adopted that in 1689 for one specific reason: to protect the religious freedoms of Puritans and other “low-church†Protestants. They’d been persecuted, legally, by British kings for more than a century. So Parliament included in the bill the proviso that “no Protestant†could be denied the right to carry arms. The link between gun rights and religious freedom was spelled out in the text. (Alas, it left us Catholics out — but that got fixed in the American version, a century later.)

Regardless of your personal belief, firearms and their accessories are legal in the United States. So why are we seeing continuing restrictions and challenges towards content about something demonstrably legal yet not against that which is clearly illegal?”

Mother Jones Asks Why NRA Isn’t Coming To The Defense Of “Peaceful” Protesters
Surely these actions by law enforcement officers are what NRA head Wayne LaPierre warned about when he wrote in a 1995 fundraising letter that a recently signed assault weapons ban would give “jack-booted government thugs more power to take away our constitutional rights, break in our doors, destroy our property, and even injure or kill us,†right? After all, that was the NRA’s biggest fear during the Obama administration, when the group turned the former president into a liberal bogeyman, incessantly fundraising on the notion that his administration would ban all firearms. And even before that, the group capitalized off of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, making misleading claims that the New Orleans mayor had declared martial law and that police were disarming law-abiding gun owners to help crack down on looters. So surely the nation’s oldest gun rights organization, which has a sordid history of stoking fear among its base that Big Government is going to come and take away rights, would have a lot to say about these current instances of police crackdowns on peaceful protesters, right?
Elites Hate That Normal People Have Guns

Thus do right-wing extremists exploit America’s lax gun laws for political gain. Of course, the open carrying of rifles or handguns is a recipe for intimidation and potentially deadly confusion, even when not politically motivated. If shots ring out on a street full of armed pedestrians, how are the police supposed to identify the culprit?
On the whole, though, no state worthy of the name can permit exceptions to its monopoly on legitimate deployment of armed force like those in Michigan or North Carolina. Surely no sensible interpretation of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms would say a state must tolerate them.
