AG Bondi Worries Gun Rights Group
From Bearing Arms:
Gun Owners of America (GOA) is sounding the alarm following the Senate confirmation of Pam Bondi as Attorney General, vowing to hold her accountable in defending Americans’ Second Amendment rights.
While Bondi has supported some pro-gun measures, her tenure as Florida Attorney General also raises serious red flags. She endorsed the controversial Parkland gun control laws, which included “red flag” confiscation orders, a ban on firearm ownership for 18-20-year-olds, and a bump stock ban. Bondi also defended Florida’s ban on open carry and defended the 18-20 year old gun ban in court, which infringes on the rights of law-abiding gun owners. This is in stark contrast to other Florida state Attorneys General like Ashley Moody, who recently declined to defend Florida’s unconstitutional open carry ban after GOA filed a lawsuit.
SHUSH Act Introduced By Senator Mike Lee
From The Truth About Guns:
Introduced by U.S. Rep. Mike Lee, R-Utah, the “Silencers Help Us Save Hearing Act,” aka SHUSH Act, would change current law and treat silencers the same as other firearms accessories.
Senate cosponsors of the SHUSH Act include Republican Sens. Rick Scott of Florida, Pete Rickets of Nebraska, Roger Marshall of Kansas and John Curtis of Utah. The measure is being supported by the NRA, the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR), GOA and the NSSF.
YouTube To Crackdown On Gun Content, Destroy Livelihoods
From Bearing Arms:
“Restricting access to adults only—for content that depicts wholly legal and constitutionally-protected activity—is wrong, and it aims to push a sinister narrative to minors that firearms are evil,” said Erich Pratt, GOA’s Senior Vice President. “In turn, as younger generations come of age, they will not question or push back on further violations of our Second Amendment rights.”
“Alvin Bragg and his anti-gun friends have been aggressively pressuring YouTube to censor and directly prohibit certain content related to guns for years now, and sadly they just succeeded and free speech has once again become the victim,” said Aidan Johnston, GOA’s Director of Federal Affairs. “Congress must demand answers from YouTube on how influential DA Bragg and gun control groups were in facilitating this change in policy and determine whether the Biden Administration or it’s White House Office of Gun Control was weaponized to force the censorship of Second Amendment content.”
Temporary Restraining Order Issued For ATF
From The Truth About Guns:
The gross overstep by the Justice Department (DOJ) and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which basically outlaws private gun sales and was set to take effect on Monday, has been challenged in court in a number of different lawsuits. On Sunday, in the case State of Texas v. BATF, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas approved a temporary restraining order on the Final Rule that states it may not be enforced against the individual plaintiff in the case, citizens of the of Texas, and members of Gun Owners of America, Gun Owners Foundation, the Tennessee Firearms Association and the Virginia Citizens Defense League.
ATF Universal Background Checks Challenged
From The Truth About Guns:
A federal judge has expedited the legal proceedings against a new rule by the ATF that mandates universal background checks on private firearm sales. U.S. District Court Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk’s decision on Friday sets the stage for a rapid review of the contentious rule, which has faced strong opposition from gun rights advocates and several states.
Anti-Gun Org Investigated For Breaking Guns Laws
From Ammoland:
“ New Mexico Sheriff has opened an investigation into whether anti-gun group illegally purchased guns in violation of Universal Background Checks during a “buyback” and failed to destroy these firearms in a legal manner,” Gun Owners of America commented when forwarding the NMPGV announcement. “YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS STUFF UP.”
Anti-Gunners Realize Focusing On The NRA Was The Wrong Tactic
From The Truth About Guns:
Assessing the GOA’s impact and expanded lobbying efforts, the Violence Policy Center’s Rand stressed: “As the NRA has lost its footing, its more extreme members have embraced GOA. The group’s expanding influence can only drive pro-gun positions on legislation even further to the right.”
ATF Backdown After GOA Lawsuit
From The Truth About Guns:
Gun Owners of America (GOA) and the Gun Owners Foundation (GOF) are excited to announce that the ATF has backed down from attempting to revoke the FFL license of Morehouse Enterprises in Valley City, North Dakota.
GOA Sends Letter To Senate
From Ammoland:
On Friday, a group of Gun Owners of America (GOA) industry partners known as the No Compromise Alliance sent a letter to Congress opposing the proposed so-called “assault weapons” ban (H.R. 1808) and the repeal of Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (H.R. 2814).
ATF Using Loophole To Create Illegal Gun Registry
From Ammoland:
AmmoLand News has reported that the ATF has been scanning nearly one billion “Out of Business” records using optical character recognition (OCR) software. If you did not know already, out-of-business FFL’s 4473 documents from gun sales made over the duration of that business have been turned over to the ATF. These “out of business” documents include personal information, including social security numbers, addresses, height, weight, eye color, etc. The ATF claims that this database is not searchable by name. This claim is true on the surface because the ATF has disabled the field within the software, but that field can be easily re-enabled at any time with just a few clicks of a mouse.
Court Rules Bump Stocks Are Not Machine Guns
From Guns.com:
The Circuit, which controls Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee, handed down a 60-page opinion in the case of Gun Owners of America, Inc. v. Merrick B. Garland this week. The crux of the issue to the court was that the ATF – effectively part of the executive branch of government – enforces laws rather than makes them, with that authority reserved for the people acting through their elected representatives in Congress.
“Congress could amend the statute tomorrow to criminalize bump-stock ownership, if it so wished,” said Judge Alice M. Batchelder for the majority, which was joined by Judge Eric E. Murphy. “But as judges, we cannot amend [the statute]. And neither can ATF. This is because the separation of powers requires that any legislation pass through the legislature, no matter how well-intentioned or widely supported the policy might be.”
