Gun Rights Movement Continues Undeterred
From The Washington Examiner:
Rather than an attack on democracy, sanctuary counties are a proper exercise of local democracy. The populations of 86 of Virginia’s 95 counties are in an uproar over the gun control bills, with some members of law enforcement promising to deputize citizens to circumvent the gun control measures. (This will only be effective, however, if the gun control laws have built-in exemptions for law enforcement.)
VA Law Could Ban Gun Parts
From Ammoland:
This passage could potentially ban parts used to repair broken rifles. Banning the transfer of these rifles to anyone other than the government would mean once the rifle breaks, it is useless. If the owner repairs their gun or sells it, they are committing a felony.
Gun rights groups from around the country expressed concern about the passage of HB 961 out of the committee. One of these groups is Gun Owners of America that has been fighting hard alongside VCDL in the Commonwealth to defeat the attack on gun rights. Senior Vice President, Erich Pratt, is dismayed the bill has gotten as far as it has.
DC Metro Rejects Gun Safety Ad From Gun Industry
From Washington Free Beacon:
The agency refused to run an ad from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) that highlighted the industry’s commitment “to make communities safer.” The agency told the group the ad violated its guidelines but did not elaborate on any particular violation, according to an email obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. The trade group said the decision is politically motivated.
ATF Agent Says Most Guns Aren’t “Firearms”
From CNN:
“That part of a firearm which provides housing for the hammer, bolt or breechblock, and firing mechanism, and which is usually threaded at its forward portion to receive the barrel.”
The problem — and this is where O’Kelly comes in — is that he says roughly 60% of the guns in America do not have a single part that falls under that definition. The AR-15, for example, has a split receiver — one upper and one lower. Neither meets the requirement on its own.“For 50 years, ATF has been making this square peg fit in the round hole,” O’Kelly told CNN, “when, in fact, it doesn’t.”
Canadians Fight Back Against Gun Ban
From Guns.com:
A petition to stop the Liberal government of Canada implementing a ban on “military-style assault rifles†has reached 153,000 signatures – well over six times bigger than any previous petition. The petition opened on Dec. 17, 2019, and will close on Feb. 15, 2020.
Prominent law enforcement officers have stated that a ban will have little effect. “When we seize handguns, the handguns are always, almost 100-percent, in the possession of people who have no legal right to possess them. They’re almost always stolen or illegally obtained,†said Winnipeg Police Service spokesperson Const. Rob Carver earlier this month.
Billionaire Wants To Take Your Guns And Is Spending Millions To Do It
From National Review:
Bloomberg has, in a just a few months of running for presidency, spent around $200 million in the primary — approximately $194 million more than the NRA spends on an average year in lobbying Congress and approximately $170 million more than the NRA spent on the entire 2016 election.
The $11 million Bloomberg reportedly spent on his Super Bowl is $11 million more than the notorious “gun lobby†has spent on national television advertising, probably over the past decade, if not forever.
That doesn’t even account for the numerous political entities Bloomberg funds, such as “Everytown for Gun Safety,†the gun-control group he co-founded, which announced recently that it is going to spend $60 million on the 2020 elections — or more than the NRA has ever spent in any election cycle ever.
Ignorance No Match For Gun Banners’ Confidence
From The Federalist:
Kerry was obviously referring to the AR-15, again conflating the semiautomatic rifle with the military’s M16 and M4 rifles, which are automatic. He also clearly confused magazines with clips.
All the while, though, Kerry confirmed the long-held beliefs that the only thing he and the candidates he supports want to do with firearms are banning, outlawing, restricting, and denying the ability of law-abiding gun owners to buy the firearms they choose. He warned if voters don’t turn out for Biden, those “AR-16s†and “clips†could make a comeback.
New Gun Organization Promotes Responsibility
From The Truth About Guns:
The goal, they say, is for firearms owners to reclaim the narrative. If gun owners are going to be against government regulation and interference with their Second Amendment rights, they need to be for something…for taking positive steps to increase the safety and responsibility of gun owners as a group.
They say CGRR’s goal is to promote non-legislative, non-prohibitionist, non-regulatory, non-confiscatory solutions to promote responsible gun ownership and practices. Actions designed to make real differences in gun safety, saving lives and preventing tragedies.
Washington Attacks Gun Owners While Failing To Prosecute Criminals
From Ammoland:
It evidently doesn’t matter that the two suspects in last month’s fatal fracas could not legally possess, much less carry, firearms. While the state Department of Licensing last Friday advised Ammoland News that there are now 647,233 active CPLs in the state—the highest number of any far western state, except for Utah—suspects William Tolliver and Marquise Latrelle Tolbert don’t have one. They were apprehended after being on the run more than a week, during which time they became examples of a justice system in serious need of repair.
Self Defense Is Non Negotiable
From Free The People:
In the face of the harmful and derogatory notion that anyone with a gun is dangerous and that guns divide us as a nation, the thousands of men and women who stood in Richmond shattered these stereotypes. They proved actions speak louder than words as people from different genders, races, cultures, and socio-economic backgrounds shined a light on the fact that guns do not inherently generate more violence. Furthermore, it also highlighted that one’s right to protect oneself is rooted in diversity and a commonality that we all share, no matter our differences.
What the entire nation witnessed was a clear message that not all laws are just or even enforceable, especially when they are a threat to liberty. After all, the world has not yet seen unarmed individuals dethrone any tyrant during times of upheavals. Thus, any government’s attempt to disarm its own citizens should be seen as a suspicious act.
Illinois Non Resident Carry Permit Law Challenged
From The Truth About Guns:
Eighteen state attorneys general have joined in an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court supporting a Second Amendment Foundation petition for writ of certiorari seeking high court review in the case of Culp v. Raoul, which challenges the refusal by Illinois to take applications from non-residents for an Illinois carry license.
If Your Doc Asks About Guns, Lie
From The Federalist Papers:
The point is that in a political and cultural environment that is increasingly hostile to the Second Amendment and law-abiding gun owners, telling anyone outside your immediate family that you are armed is a risk. It’s a risk because that information will go on your medical record and if they don’t already, the feds will soon have access to all your medical records.
And it’s only a small step until one day when liberals control all the levers of government and can impose mandatory gun registration or confiscation.
Gun Control Ad Uses False Stats
From Reason:
Michael Bloomberg’s Super Bowl ad, which presents the Democratic presidential contender as a brave advocate of public safety who is not afraid to take on “the gun lobby,” claims “2,900 children die from gun violence every year” in the United States, which is not true. That number includes young adults as well as minors, and it includes suicides as well as homicides.
Group Calls For Return To Gun Safety Classes
From Ammoland:
Sometimes championed by what passes for “news†today, they act completely against American values, including dramatically against our fundamental right to keep and bear arms. Socialists are dead set against an armed public, which they now fearlessly announce, because they know all too well it represents a threat to their absolute power. Historically, socialist regimes all disarm their subjects, frequently leading to genocide.
